Tracy Howard Senior Video

His ability to leave his man and go make a play on the ball is as good as I've ever seen from a HS corner. He's as natural of a corner in the way he moves as anyone I've ever seen. If he had elite speed he'd be through the roof, but he's going to be a **** good player for us anyway, I think.

And, by the way, re-watching that SFExpress tryout video really reminded me that Deon Bush is legit. I was starting to think he was DVD part 2 the way folks around here spoke of him being soft and just being an 'athlete'.... DVD never in his life got as physical as Deon got in that vid, and he ran step-for-step with some ballers. I got a lot more excited about his potential at corner after re-watching that.

Do you happen to have link there feller?

I think the "soft" thing with Bush comes from his hitting and tackling as safety. He's not head hunter. But when it comes to press coverage, he's as physical as you could hope for.

And +1 on Dortch. Love his tackling ability on the outside.

I'm hoping Howard can be like Janoris Jenkins minus the pot smoking. May sound strange from a guy with 420 in his handle, but I like my CB's to be playing football as much as possible.

here we go again....the same mofos that were saying he is overrated and slow are probably the same ones who are in this thread crowning his ***

the only consistent cat is BigDikCane who has been saying all along that he didn't really like him and that he was overrated. take notes wishy washy mofos

You can add me to the list. I've said the same thing throughout the process - from when he was going elsewhere to now as a commit. I think he's more Patrick Robinson-type of impact than Patrick Peterson. If that makes him overrated because he was the #1 CB in the country, so be it. He's still a potential impact guy for us.

And a first round pick. We should be ecstatic if he's as good as P-Rob (Who was a BEAST in high school).

Aside from Big and Bakas, who the **** else thought this?

I still dont understand why we didnt recruit P rob. He was at a HS 2 mintues down the street and was an absolute baller.

His former coaches (Gulliver Cane fans) will tell you we straight up dropped the ball. No follow-up. I guess they didn't like him very much.

Is there any chance Gunter and Dorch and up at safety? We need cover safetys and these guys could be the answer. Maybe Larry Hope too?

I think Gunter has a good chance ending up at Safety. Dortch is a pure corner imo, and not sure on Larry Hope he's the biggest project imo.

I can't remember who, but I think on one the sites someone talked about Hope possibly being a Safety. Obviously, he's nowhere near the size right now and would probably need at least 2 years before we saw that though.

Howard and bush both look to be great press coverage corners, thats an area we have been lacking for years. The cb position got a huge upgrade this signing day.

Cant wait to see these guys play on saturdays next season

Ive been on record saying that I can see where the concerns come from. Tracy Howard had two really subpar camp performances in 7 on 7 settings. At the Nike Sparq camp in Oregon he kinda got tooled by a lot of guys. That was an insane camp talentwise, tho.

I fully expect Tracy Howard to be a significant contributor on defense, but Im not sure I see an elite corner.

With all due respect a 7 on 7 camp is a terrible setting to base an evaluation of a CB. I personally see the upside of Budh, but Howard has done it on the actual field. Plus he shut it down during the all star game practices. I understand how he might be lacking in certain areas, but the part I like is that he is a great football player. Now Bush is the kid with the crazy ceiling but not as good of a player.

I can see that to an extent. Mainly, in terms of physical ability/talent he is more P-Rob than PP(J), BUT the something that really needs to be considered is his intelligence on a football field and natural feel for the game. He is elite in that regard, and that will translate to the next level.

There really is no other way to explain a guy going into his senior season already labeled as one of the top CBs in the nation and still managing to get 10 interceptions. He can play man and zone and maximize his role within a scheme.

IMO, that also helps explain why he is possibly not as impressive in a camp setting. His greatest asset is being a key part of a bigger unit.

Absolutely on that point. I've mentioned this since Golden and crew got here. Our DBs' lack of comfort in zone is almost shocking. If you can play zone and have a feel for "passing players off" in the zone, you'll get on the field here. People will think it's his athletic ability, but this will be the deciding factor in breaking into the lineup as a True Frosh.

Based on what I've seen, his feel for the game might have him being the best player on the roster at this from day 1.

I expect Howard to be starting this season.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if he didn't end up being the best CB in this class, though. I like Crawford alot and Bush has a world of potential.
