We got three 4 star corners which is a mini miracle considering who recruits that position, Hall, Nesta and got a steal in Rousseau. I don’t think it was all that bad even though we missed on the absolutely elite DBs

Nesta and Rousseau were never going anywhere as long as the staff wasn't having Recruiting Parties hosted by Kevin Spacey. They were Miami Hurricanes.
We basically lost every single "battle" that recruiting cycle on the defensive side of the ball.

Huh? We had him locked up before the season started. He wanted to be a Cane. We didn't need to "recruit" him.

Josh Jobe was the person we had to battle for. Tyson Campbell was the person we had to battle for. And they all told us to get bent.

I heard from someone that Miss st brought in their closer to seal the deal. Maybe the staff has one or two dudes on the low at dt and db coming.
But Miami can’t compete when they have this dude walking in to talk to him

I hear this whole education blah blah far too often around UM sites. You’re delusional if you think it is seriously relevant to most recruits. You’re talking about a pool of kids who wouldn’t be qualified to get admitted to most of the schools they go to, and who don’t take serious classes while enrolled, and can’t, anyhow, given the demands of FB. They get a college degree and that matters in life. But the amount of times folks yap about UM education like kids are going to study marine biology highlights a real logic gap. Any kid who is enough of a student to worry about relative educational quality ain’t going to MS ST irrespective of UM. But he probably aint going to UM, either. Maybe Duke, or Stanford, or Cal, or Northwestern, or GT, or ND.

Also, the value of a degree is a different matter from the value of an education. UM is a small private school. It’s alumni network is also small as a result. If you’re from Pensacola, you likely encounter more MS ST grads than UM grads in life. UM’s name on a degree just isn’t worth as much as UM alumni fancy it to be. And once you get past the name, you’re at ‘what major did you take’ and from there, the reality is most P5 football players are similarly limited in their course of study.

Its the whole package, not just education.

What are you talking about? You think recruiting ends just because a kid commits? What about Miami recruiting that last 10 years suggest that the battle ends when the guy commits. LOL at bringing up Jobe who was committed then decommitted late in the process. Just proves my point. It aint over just because a guy orally commits. If we had stunk in 2017 you think a guy like Hall is hanging around? No chance.

I'm saying it's difficult to argue the 10 win season is why we were able to land a guy that committed in the spring of that year. That seems pretty easy to understand.

Because the defensive recruiting was great when we were a 10 win team?

Bolden, Hall, Carter, Smith, Bandy will all play in the NFL. Some of those will even go in the top 3 rounds and that's off the top of my head. There is more NFL talent in that defensive backfield.

Hmm, I would hardly say that was everyone on our list for recruiting this off season, but whatever. ****, it isn't even everyone on this list. Sorry I failed to notice your inability to look more than 18" in front of you.

As long as you're sorry, I guess that's a start.

Awesome. Bandy wanted to be a Cane so badly, he basically stood scratching and crying on Richt's front door until we let him in.
He clearly shows how good of a job selling this program the defensive staff does.

Whatever. It’s pointless to discuss recruiting if your attitude is that kids would be wrong to go elsewhere. You do not know the kid, his values, his experiences, his interests, his preferences, his circumstances, anything. Saying UM is a clearly superior choice outsode of football is silly. Maybe, maybe not.

People seem to be confused about the complaint some of us have with the defensive staff.

None of us are arguing the staff doesn't bring in ANY talent. They do win some recruiting battles. But this is like the only guy in a town full of girls. You're going to get laid. Does that mean you're attractive or know how to talk game? No. You can be horrible at talking to girls, and you're still going to get some, because of the conditions of the town.

This staff sucks at recruiting the defensive side of the ball. It is the conditions of South Florida that allow them to bring in some talent. The staff succeeds despite its recruiting skills, not because of it. We desperately need somebody who actually knows how to recruit.

This is irrefutable.

Can't even close on 3 stars now. Banda and Rumph two peas in a pod. Both clowns need to be fired.

You're looking at how many stars the players were coming out of high school. I'm looking at how productive they are in college and if they can play at the next level. 5+ NFL type talented players in the defensive backfield is nothing to scoff at. Give me a 3 or 4 ⭐ who can produce over a 5⭐ who gets to college and is mediocre.
