Thursday Recruiting Chatter - 1/31

**After feeling good about Miami coming out of his official visit weekend, momentum has shifted back in favor of Mississippi State for S Martin Emerson. After checking in with a source close to the recruitment, I am comfortable flipping my pick to the Bulldogs here.

**Things are trending in the right direction with UCLA DE transfer Jaelan Phillips and it seems he is a take for Miami after talking to a team source. If I could put in a Miami pick for him I would. I have heard nothing new regarding VT DE transfer Trevon Hill's situation.

**There’s a few guys still on the board that seem like 50-50 toss ups right now, and those would be CB Christian Williams and OT Darius Washington. While I haven’t heard enough to make a pick either way, I’m told the staff still likes their chances with both prospects.

**This is the final official visit weekend before the dead period and recruits begin signing next Wednesday. The only scheduled visitor at the moment is DE Khris Bogle, who is making his second OV to Coral Gables. While I’m comfortable saying UF is leading here right now, Miami is getting the last shot at him to swing him back and anything can happen if you get the kid on campus for an OV. Follow who is and has been visiting with our OV tracker (linked here) pinned to the top of the recruiting board.

**2020 offers have been going out like crazy the past week or so as UM continues to really expand their board at all positions under Manny Diaz. Another new name to keep an eye on that UM is evaluating is OT Andrej Karic from Southlake Carroll High in Texas. At 6’5” 240, Karic is a rather thin, but athletic, tackle prospect with upside, and sports early offers from Michigan, Oregon, TCU, Nebraska, and Washington State.

Oh trust me I know. My Grandpa was from Southwest Alabama, so naturally I have a lot of family in the Panhandle. That place feels different from the rest of the state(even the rest of North Florida). A kid has to really love this U(i.e., Finley) too join us.

I hear this whole education blah blah far too often around UM sites. You’re delusional if you think it is seriously relevant to most recruits. You’re talking about a pool of kids who wouldn’t be qualified to get admitted to most of the schools they go to, and who don’t take serious classes while enrolled, and can’t, anyhow, given the demands of FB. They get a college degree and that matters in life. But the amount of times folks yap about UM education like kids are going to study marine biology highlights a real logic gap. Any kid who is enough of a student to worry about relative educational quality ain’t going to MS ST irrespective of UM. But he probably aint going to UM, either. Maybe Duke, or Stanford, or Cal, or Northwestern, or GT, or ND.

Also, the value of a degree is a different matter from the value of an education. UM is a small private school. It’s alumni network is also small as a result. If you’re from Pensacola, you likely encounter more MS ST grads than UM grads in life. UM’s name on a degree just isn’t worth as much as UM alumni fancy it to be. And once you get past the name, you’re at ‘what major did you take’ and from there, the reality is most P5 football players are similarly limited in their course of study.

It's crazy just how much the entire SEC hates Miami. Nobody can even give a good reason why, it's like they were just raised that way.

My girlfriend is an Auburn fan, so I don't mind wearing some Auburn gear just to **** off all the toothless roll tiders around here. She reps Miami pretty hard, so we've got a good thing going.

Careful. The Manny is god crowd will beat you up for implying anything is wrong with the defensive staff. I catch **** every time I suggest the Manny should have upgraded his own side of the ball too. They are hung up on how bad the offensive side was and fail to understand that the defensive staff looked great in part as a comparison to it and the Golden abortion.

I don't know why you guys continue to miss the big picture!! This season is wasted with recruits due to our record that is still left on the table. Manny did an incredible job attacking the portal to upgrade this team. But one thing that all of this coaching changes can't change....is that we are still 7-6!!

Until we win, nothing Manny or any other coach can say to a kid that will change that!!

Our focus need to be on next year with the hopes that Manny can garner more W's because as much as you guys hope and pray, there's no magic wand to get rid of 7-6!! You're only setting yourself up for a huge disappointment on NSD!!

Hmm, I would hardly say that was everyone on our list for recruiting this off season, but whatever. ****, it isn't even everyone on this list. Sorry I failed to notice your inability to look more than 18" in front of you.

the way manny has run stuff -- if stefan is hearing it from UMs side -- its fake news.

not a shot at stefan but mainly at his source. its a bad source and clearly has zero pulse into whats going on. manny has kept everything tight lipped. cane shades radio has gotten more **** right than stefan has since richt left.

as for recruiting, you guys are such *******. you knew this was a lost year in recruiting yet cry when its told to you. why do you think manny hit the portal? for ***** and giggles?

Honestly just getting Phillips and JHH would feel like a success at this point given how bad of shape we were in after the Pinstripe Bowl.

We've scored big in the portal and got JT4 back. Those two factors alone make us way more ready to compete next year talent-wise than we ever were going to be under Richt. I know there was no turnover on the defensive staff so it's definitely not too promising that they're whiffing on some of these, but I'm still gonna wait to draw any conclusions on this staff as a whole until they have the chance to have a full class. There are tons of realistic options in 2020 that could get us a top 10 class and then 2021 is pretty loaded and there's no reason we shouldn't have a top 5 class that year.

We never were going to have a big close. The Portal was our recruiting coup this cycle.

Only disappointing news is that Bogle may end up at UF, but whatever. That's his loss.

He did one Saturday for metocha but yea would assume it is huente or Phillips.

A lot of our fake insiders assumed it was Emerson bc he was the worst player trending towards UM.
