This place is gonna get nutty on NSD when Valentine makes it official to LSU, assuming we're also going to miss out on JC.

They are not substitutes, we need to get Valentine.

Is JC going to play DT? Will VT line up at DB?

LSU just thought that they were landing Tony Brown, Speedy Noil, Gerald Willis as well.

I gave you some rep for this.

Pete, I love your updates and I know you work hard but for you to make a bold statement that TV is LSU bound IYO and the only legit reason you have to back that up is because LSU coaches say so is really silly. All you did was rustle the natives and turn this into a negative thread. Nobody knows where TV is going. LSU thought they had Noil and Willis IN THE BAG. They got neither.

I love the fact that we got the last shot at him. I fully expect for him to proclaim that LSU is his leader after he visits this weekend but I have faith in Hurlie and I think that his family will play a major factor too.

Per Shea Dixon

From talking to sources, the staff feels they are close to locking up Valentine, Kelly and Gage - if, of course, they make that press to get him into the class while he’s on campus this weekend.

Both Valentine and Kelly’s camps have given the LSU staff very positive vibes recently and they feel like if the visits go well, then good news should follow - whether while they are on campus this weekend or closer to NSD.

Again if anyone is pushing tv to LSU because of their ability to coach him up develop him into a nfl DT they are not paying attention.

Golden/Donofrio have developed elite DT at friggin Temple.

Talent analysis and development is their strong suit.

Just curious - when do you expect this development miracle to occur? I sure haven't seen any serious signs that it's just around the corner.

It's misses like this that will prevent us from being elite again

What prevents us from holding Duke and VT under 90 points? Do we have to be elite to do that?

Some of you guys are way too far ahead, "elite."

I tend to agree with you on this one. I understand the desire to suddenly be elite again but I think you gotta take each situation and look at it independently. Losing Valentine to a program like LSU is npot ideal...but it's LSU and they are a top SEC program right now that also beats out schools like Alabama for guys ....

Elite is where we wanna be....but first we gotta get to REALLY GOOD...and it aint even to that level yet.

Unfortunately, we aren't going to be "really good," given our misses on DTs the last two years. If Bostwick were here, losing TV would not be as big of a blow. But given that we do not have studs coming up, we needed to hit on an elite ready-to-play DT. TV was that guy. It is a huge loss.

According to Barry Jackson, Valentine wants to go to "the place that proves they want him the most". If Al can't prove that Blake should fire him at his NSD press conference.

As for being major players for Gaillard, dude doesn't even have a visit set. Was supposed to camp multiple times this summer, never did. Would love to see it, but how are we going to flip a kid who based his entire recruitment on relationships and has a freakin Bulldog tattoo if he is just seeing campus for the first time? Call me a skeptic.

Read between the lines. He's getting this from Genron, who would have a far better idea than most where TV is headed. Nothing is certain, but the prospects of TV wearing the Cane uniform appear pretty bleak at this point.

LMAO

Who have they developed since being in Miami?

Guys will reach for the Temple days, 5 years from now. If Golden is able to withstand not being fired before then.

**Yes, Chad Thomas will be at FSU this weekend. Anytime a 5-star commit visits the reigning national champs, there is a valid reason for concern, but Thomas continues to tell me he is solid to Miami, despite his visit plans. I will refer you to a quote he gave me a little over a month ago - “Nah, nah, nah. I’ll never change. I committed to Miami so that’s what I’m gonna do. I’m loyal. I might take another visit just to see other things because I’ve been in Miami for 18 years, but you know I’m locked in with Miami.”

**It is known by now that Tavon Ross will be on campus today and throughout the weekend. Miami feels that getting on him before both Georgia and Alabama has given them the upper-hand here and this weekend could go a long way to landing him.

**What I reported a few weeks ago on the junior college defensive tackles still looks to be the case (http://www.canesinsight.com/threads/61582-HUGE-news-on-the-JUCO-DT-front?highlight=JUCO+DT). Heurtelou is expected to be enrolled today or tomorrow and Wyche is still not expected to be here for Spring. Look for Wyche to stay at JUCO this semester and be here in May.

**My feeling right now on Travonte Valentine is that he will be LSU bound. LSU coaches are very confident that he will be theirs on NSD.
**I expect Miami to be a legitimate player for Lamont Gaillard down the stretch. If he follows through on his visit next weekend, things could get interesting. Miami is on him HARD.

I never claimed that we were close to elite, but having an elite DT/DL is a step in that direction, hence my post

Let me put it this way....elite talent helps but perhaps there is MUCH MORE

yeah, those look like Oregon type classes

I am not saying we don't need Valentine. I am not saying I don't want Valentine.

I am just saying that before we get here ELITEville, we need to take a step into PRE-ELITEtown. Our fans seem to be a little far ahead.

But we are not approaching pre-elite level, given the DT misses in the prior recruiting cycles. Is there even the slightest inkling that Moore, King, Hamilton, and whoever else coming up will be serviceable? It looks pretty weak in terms of talent.

Nice post Pete. Don't take the TV issue as a done deal. If he does not commit to LSU this week and visits UM next weekend Golden and Hurlie flip him

Valentine is a program changer and every coaches dream. This is a major **** up by Golden. The combination of Mark D'Onoforio and not being able to recruit elite DT's will be his downfall. It really is that simple.

They have not won a national championship and they don't play in a weak conference. The team is Stanford and they are now an elite program. They made 4 straight BCS bowls and have done it under two different coaches. They average 11.5 wins over the last 4 years, they are now an elite program.

Here are two other schools

The season started strong, finished as a total disaster....our recruiting started strong and is now a total disaster

Valentine saw the Duke game and lost faith in this staff, not firing D'Noforio we basically signed his LOI to LSU

How is our Recruiting a disaster we lost a rb that wasn't going to play much until next year or get converted to DB, a corner who is highly overrated, a JCUO DT that cant get in early because of school. we still have a strong class and top 10. people would die for a top 10 class and people acting like were the 56th class. yeah we lost some steam but its not done till its done. i believe TV will be with us when its all said and done. i think he is a heart over mind type kid.

Our defense sucks because we haven't had anything close to the talent that TV is.

Our defense will get better with Jenkins, Heurtelou, Moten and Wyche. Hopefully that will help us get a Valentine type player down the road. Which will help us go from 10 wins and coastal champ to elite.
