**** our Admin! They handcuff us more than the NCAA "cloud" in terms of recruiting. You could make an All-Star squad comprised solely of Miami academic casualties. **** Marshall wouldn't even have a football team if it wasn't for our Admin.

i'd be more upset about academic casualties if they were going to big schools, but when they have to go to juco or marshall, that says that they probably wouldn't have qualified academically at those places either. plus, how can you expect someone with grades that bad to even stay eligible if they were enrolled?
Small class sizes and a graduate assistant with a foot up their ***?

possibly, but a lot of the professors don't budge on academic requirements at um. if the kid isn't smart enough to get into fsu or uf and has to go to juco or marshall, there's no way he'd be able to stay eligible at miami. you can only do so much to help. we're not a big state school that has the luxury of having huge worthless departments and no-show classes like unc, so the professors that the university hires are mostly top-notch (and/or foreign) and could care less for athletics, which is par for the course at the normal academic departments at most schools.

edit: that's not to say that there aren't bs classes here and there (because there are), but not enough to keep someone that dumb completely afloat.

That Powell story is infuriating.

Gotta think Golden must have flipped the **** out with the Admin department

I sure as **** hope he did! I understand the BS he pulled with PSU gave some kid cold feet and some began to look elsewhere...but that has nothing to do with admissions not having all their **** in one sock. He better crack some skulls up there!

I also think were kidding ourselves if we don't think the PSU rumors played a role.

Lets face it. If Powell could jump that quickly when they were telling him it would just be a day or two, he was never really a Cane at heart. Hate losing him, but he isn't here because he didn't have a burning desire to be here. Would have been a nice pick up but I doubt he would ever move ahead of either Duke or Yearby and hopefully we hold on to Walton and he gets in next year. In that case he looks much more the every down feature back than Powell does. I think Powells greatest effect for us would have been as a slot receiver. But Barrios Welker should have that position locked up for the next three years at least.

Y everyone stressing BP i nerver thought dude was elite n e way, the bigger loss was Cook n possibly valentine.

Then they need to offer. Johnson is the kind of kid we will be sick about when he blows up in GA. He is the better of the two in Homestead, maybe not from a pure talent eval (not that great a gulf) but from a prospect eval.

Are we still pursuing any DTs other than Valentine?

Except he'd be in right now if Al had done as good a job convincing him to wait as UF did convincing of him of the "urgency" of the situation. Not to mention, this began when Al Bondiga was flirting with PSU and went missing.

All your bull**** is starting to sound like C4L.

Pete,

What's the deal with Lamont Gaillard? Do we really have a shot with him? Is this a reaction to Grantham leaving to Louisville? Thanks man.

The DL coach annd was main recruiter just left

I read on the UGA site that it isn't a done deal but he's aggressively pursuing to leave like many other coaches there for some reason so theres mad uncertainty

Dade is just loaded...

Whoaaaaaaaaaaaa he's visiting?! Buddy looked better then Lane this year **** id love him!

Still confused - so if the Powell and Yearby situations are similar, Powell could have gotten into class mere days after he originally scheduled (like Yearby)... So rather than wait a couple days, he changed schools entirely? Or was he worried that UM wouldn't sign off on his paperwork and he knew UF would?

From what Pete said, I would venture to say this is what happened. Kid was told to wait because of the admin. issue. He freaked out and took the sure thing, to make sure he was in school, and not have to wait till fall or later. It sucks, but I guess he felt he didn't have no other alternative and didn't "trust the process".

Oh yeah, Good $#1T, Pete! Thanks

Drop/add ends next week.
If I were Golden I'd head up to Gainesville and visit Powell in his dorm room with his completed admission papers.
Just because he's enrolled with classes doesn't mean he can't dis enroll and start at Miami.
No LOI's have been signed yet.

Its true that admissions has and will hinder too many players admission into school. The Administration, Admissions, AD and football staff need to establish some criteria to prevent or at the least speed up the process. Football is far to important, lets be real about it, that they wouldn't make exceptions for players in question that meet NCAA minimums. Dedicate academic support staff and these kids will do the U proud in the classroom and on the field. This class and next years performance will give us a consensus opinion.
