The bad: questionable decision making and play calls

Kam Kinchens. Deep safety on cover 2. Rule #1 is let nobody behind you. Huge mental lapse.

1st and goal from the 1. No points. How about a QB sneak?

4th down at midfield. QB draw. Stuffed.

3rd down and 9 on defense. Obviously a passing down. Steele drops Harvey into coverage and they convert which leads to FG. Difference in the game.

Final drive. TVD throws to Skinner who can't get out of bounds. In that situation he should have either thrown the ball away or ran out of bounds himself or thrown the ball to the sidelines where Skinner had to fall out of bounds to catch it Poor coaching and decision making. Never complete a pass for a yard gain in that situation unless you KNOW they're getting out of bounds or the first down. Cost us a chance at tying or winning the game.
we tried the sneak. it didnt work. we also had thad in there for one run play. he nearly got in but I thought the play was called dead too early (refs did it on the other end too w UNC so I guess its evened out). we should've used thad solely down there if they were content on running it and not two small backs. what's more inexcusable is the fourth down play call. we dont take a single shot in the end zone down there and then magically decide on fourth down w a terrible play call?

I’m not gonna defend Gattis in any way shape or form

But man UNC run defense has been miserable

If I’m a coach I’m like look ****ers…I’m gonna run it…do your jobs

Not debating your post or saying you’re wrong at all but that was just UNC wanting it more than us and that was brutal to watch
I agree 100%. I even said we were going to run it down their throat earlier in the week.

However, we couldn't run the ball from jumpstreet. What made Mario and Gattis think all the sudden we were going to be able to run the ball at the goaline when we couldn'trun it to get there? OK, see if you can pop one, but 3 consecutive runs after last week' debacle?

Never any goaline play action passes on rushing downs.

Partially agree but we had 48 yards on 24 rushing attempts. That is pathetic, especially against one of the worst run defenses in the country.

Yessir totally agree

I don’t “hate” the desire to run it in a few spots that we did. At some point we gotta be like ok guys…do you want this or not?

But I’m with you. Not absolving Gattis. The only thing I thought was somewhat shaky was not taking the field goal

I’m all for going for it on 4th down for the TD but losing two OL in two plays is tough. Could see it going both ways for sure

I’m with you completely

Just saying, I see why he did it as well

It should have worked out

We did do a QB sneak in the turnover of downs after having 1st and goal from the 2.

The 4th down play you refer to as a draw was not a draw ... it was a quick pass and TVD decided to not throw it (assuming b/c guy was covered) and he ran right into the blitzer.

Red zone play calling, run blocking, and blown coverages were all ugly.

As good as Colbie Young looked, it begs the question why did it take us so long to get him on the field? It’s not like the guys in front of him were lighting the world on fire.

we haven't run it well and consistently against most FBS teams this year. not sure why they thought it would change.

We don’t play our best players and that trend will continue

Special teams (outside of punting) has been a disaster the last 3 years. More of the same today with the missed kick and essentially zero KO return yardage

when does tae play more?

why does frierson not see any time?

why dont we bring a star/striker position to appropriately put 2 on defense?

We've done that pretty consistently on our redzone misses. It's so predictable and we're not good enough to impose our will when the defense knows what's coming.

It's just a poor mix of plays or really lack of mix. Everyone knows we're going to try to run it in. Why not just play action on 1st down and take the easy score.

They're trying to impose will with guys thst can't.
