Below are some notes on yesterday's scrimmage based on numerous conversations with sources:

- Overall, the offense looked sharper than last scrimmage, although the defense won the day. Tyler Van Dyke had better pockets and was driving the ball. He had a long pass down the middle to Xavier Restrepo along with a TD to Elijah Arroyo.

- With the room depeleted by injuries, walk-on RBs Devon Perry and Terrell Walden II had moments to shine. Perry in particular looked explosive with a 50+ yard TD run. Thad Franklin also had some slippery runs between the tackles.

- The throw of the day was a corner route TD from Jake Garcia to Jacolby George.

- The top overall performer on the day may have been freshman CB Chris Graves. He had at least four pass breakups and continues to tackle with physicality. He is young for his grade and the arrow is still pointing up.

- Jaleel Skinner had several nice catches-and-runs along with a TD in red zone work.

- The wide receivers had some drops and continued to have issues making big plays downfield in contested situations. However, Gattis seems to be doing a better job of scheming players open for chunk plays (especially Restrepo).

- Nyjalik Kelly and Leonard Taylor made nice plays in the backfield.

- The linebackers had another good day, with Caleb Johnson looking the best of the group. Chase Smith continues to flash unique twitch and strike ability, especially as a blitzer.

- Anez Cooper continues to flash with several pancake blocks.

- Malik Curtis got some opportunities with the ones and showed big-time speed running down Restrepo and preventing a TD.

- Justice Oluwasun is battling Logan Sagapolu at RG and got significant work with the 1s. He’s also getting work at RT.

Are the next two weeks game prep or is there another scrimmage left?

Every time Perry gets a shot he does something good.
He did some good things in the spring game, and he’ll almost assuredly get some work against Bethune. He won’t steal reps from the others, but would make for a nice story if he can get some burn.

On another note (and I’m not trying to be the grammar police), but this is just unprofessional…let’s not be the Noles here and misspell common words. Someone should fix this; pretty sure it’s supposed to be “in track” and not “on track” as well, but yeah…embarrassing/annoying.

Oh for sure the TEs and RBs are going to be an asset to the running game but you need WRs to stretch the field. We can’t play in a phone booth. And if you’re relying on the 3rd TE on the roster, you’ll be disappointed. George, I believe, might be suspended for the first game or 2.
Why do you assume we aren't stretching the middle of the field? We will take our shots outside the hash marks just not as much. Intermediate, crossing and combo routes are returning to Miami. We will use the entire field.

How concerned should we be about the offense? Seems like there is some struggles 2 weeks into camp. Don’t want to overreact cause the season is on the way and the ultimately will prove everything but doesn’t seem like anyone is separating besides restrepo and TVD.

They are playing against a talented defense with an elite staff coaching them. Defense is always ahead of the offense in fall camp

Mario lays out the plans for the next 2 weeks in this.

@DMoney, based on your intel, possible to put on paper for us a two deep roster?

There‘s still spots up for grab especially at cb opposite of cb and nickel. There’s more competition in that room than we’ve had in a minute. Couch, Dunson, Porter, Graves , IVEY have flashed. The identity will be that of a Kevin Steele defense “ physical and tough “.
