Believe the slack is going to be picked up by Skinner, expect George to become reliable, and don't forget the RB's catching balls out of the backfield. Maybe more 8-10 yard chunks than deep verticals ... but effective.

Oh for sure the TEs and RBs are going to be an asset to the running game but you need WRs to stretch the field. We can’t play in a phone booth. And if you’re relying on the 3rd TE on the roster, you’ll be disappointed. George, I believe, might be suspended for the first game or 2.

Really believe Skinner will be used on the outside like a tall WR. As far as stretching the field ... there will be deep vertical routes scripted ... big ?? at this point is will the threat be respected if the drop tendency is actually as bad as we have been lead to believe.

This this point, best case scenario is an offense looking like Tom Brady with Edelman/Gronk where they gotta body blow the middle of the field to scheme open their revolving door of mediocre outside guys. Whatever we got, we need to make it work.
Agreed..

But a big difference is Van Dyke is a way better athlete than Brady so he can add a running threat element that hopefully let's some of the faster WRs get some 1v1 opportunities deep.

Below are some notes on yesterday's scrimmage based on numerous conversations with sources:

- Overall, the offense looked sharper than last scrimmage, although the defense won the day. Tyler Van Dyke had better pockets and was driving the ball. He had a long pass down the middle to Xavier Restrepo along with a TD to Elijah Arroyo.

- With the room depeleted by injuries, walk-on RBs Devon Perry and Terrell Walden II had moments to shine. Perry in particular looked explosive with a 50+ yard TD run. Thad Franklin also had some slippery runs between the tackles.

- The throw of the day was a corner route TD from Jake Garcia to Jacolby George.

- The top overall performer on the day may have been freshman CB Chris Graves. He had at least four pass breakups and continues to tackle with physicality. He is young for his grade and the arrow is still pointing up.

- Jaleel Skinner had several nice catches-and-runs along with a TD in red zone work.

- The wide receivers had some drops and continued to have issues making big plays downfield in contested situations. However, Gattis seems to be doing a better job of scheming players open for chunk plays (especially Restrepo).

- Nyjalik Kelly and Leonard Taylor made nice plays in the backfield.

- The linebackers had another good day, with Caleb Johnson looking the best of the group. Chase Smith continues to flash unique twitch and strike ability, especially as a blitzer.

- Anez Cooper continues to flash with several pancake blocks.

- Malik Curtis got some opportunities with the ones and showed big-time speed running down Restrepo and preventing a TD.

- Justice Oluwasun is battling Logan Sagapolu at RG and got significant work with the 1s. He’s also getting work at RT.
Appreciate the Sunday morning bible study, @DMoney

I was hoping our offense would look like those 2010-2012 New England teams with Gronk & that piece of garbage Gator for the two TE looks.

Gattis going to have to earn his paycheck this year. Depleted RB room and as of this moment an average WR room. I think gattis will make it work.

Agreed. Spoke to my Michigan friend who said they lost their #1 WR game 1 last year and gattis schemed around it all year. Said he still got guys open all year and utilized his RB for catches. I think he has enough to make it work.
