He wouldn’t be getting wr#1 money
WR#1 money is very vague lol. If Pena were to commit, I assume he’d be the highest paid wr in the room right? Even through Restrepo was our WR1, he obviously he didn’t get paid anywhere close to a JJ, Ryan Williams and even a guy like Luther Burden. There is a big stretch there

I don’t think you quite understand the Pena has all the leverage in this scenario. At the moment, he’s the number one option in the portal, and he wouldn’t instantly be our WR1. We’re desperate for a proven WR. Whether you like it or not, we’ll probably have to pay him more than the staff would like. That obviously changes if someone big enters within the next two days, which the odds of that are shrinking by the second
He wouldn’t be #1 here. We have a vet wr in daniels. Let psu over pay. This dude isn’t winning you any games

Special folks here.

Are the 2025 Miami Hurricanes better with Trebor Pena on the roster? Yes. The ******* answer is yes. It’s not “well, he got a lot of volume” or “yeah but Syracuse threw the ball a lot”.

It’s ******* yes. Why do yall have to make everything so complicated? How much better? I don’t know. But better. Are yall not interested in being a better football team? I genuinely don’t get it.

Maybe I’m wrong but I just don’t think he is that good. I’m cool with letting toney handle the slot. Use that money to add depth at wr, rb, DT, and LB

But there’s no spreadsheet that says “if we sign Pena, we can’t sign Player X”. There’s also no rule that if we sign pena we’re not allowed to get other kids. You’re cool with letting an early entry true freshman handle one of the most nuanced positions on the field? After you just watched a ******* assassin technician do it the right way for 3 years?

Did yall not watch Brashard Smith try to play the slot his freshman year? Did yall not see what happened when Ray Ray got in games? That’s a hard position. Is Toney even 18 years old yet? This guy has gotten open, consistently, against ACC completion. He makes the team better. This genuinely is not hard.

Idk because idk what he was making. But I wouldn’t give him wr#1 money
He'd be the best WR in the portal right now (except maybe Peña). And our room is thin. I think we'd give him kind of a lot of money.

We have only seven wide receivers. We absolutely need more people in that room. Really 8 at minimum.

Miami had six going into the 2006 season and ended up having to take a prize freshman cornerback and our punter and convert them to wide receivers. And of the original scholarship six players, only three were available by the end of the season.

It’s a lost cause. Good thing is apparently the staff doesn’t want to just give Toney the keys or they wouldn’t be bringing Pena and Johnson in.

Yall really missing it. I don’t see us passing the ball to the extent or even close to the extent Syracuse did last year. With that being said he ain’t getting 84 catches in our offense THIS season..so what would you pay for a receiver who will most likely have less production than J. George did last season??

Doesn’t really matter to me whether he commits to the good guys or not, I’m just pointing out that this is a volume WR who will most likely not get the same volume he had the past season. He isn’t the “does more with less..” kind of dude we’re really after but he is a good slot. He just ain’t gettin 9-10 targets a game as he did in a pass first offense last year.

Ray Ray and Brashard aren’t natural wrs that’s why they struggled. Ray Ray was a rb in hs. They just put the ball in Brashard hands. Toney is a real wr that actually played it at a elite level in hs unlike those guys. If these dudes are as good as you think and you truly think they are ready then you ride with them.

That’s what the big programs do. Clemson depended on 2 true freshmen last year and they produced. Osu plays their young guys. Those teams play their young guys if they show it.

Just like pena came out of no where why can’t our guys do the same? At some point these evals gone have to start to be questioned

Who cares what his numbers are? Do we get awarded points for his targets? He makes the offense better. Literally end of story. Sign him, yesterday. JFC.

We definitely need more and I didn’t say don’t bring this guy in. My thing is I wouldn’t over pay to get him

And obviously they don’t think he is this sure fire baller like y’all making him out to be either. Nobody ever said don’t bring him in. But I agree with not over paying for him

He played it at the elite level for half of a junior season in high school? I’m good on this topic, honestly. Y’all got this one. I’m just happy we got real people making the decisions, and like @htownkidd said, their actions are clearly disagreeing with you and many others on this board. I’m thankful for that. Yall take it from here.

Because it all matters what are you talking about. All that is part of the evaluation especially when the guy just came out of no where. You have to take into account with everything. Y’all would be terrible at managing money for a team

lol sounds good till you’re back on here acting like a stripper in recession, talking bout how we “wasted” money & “missed an eval..” panties inna bunch crew..chile pls

Yes and the real people arent just throwing money at pena like y’all would because they obviously agree he isn’t a #1 wr

I for one am shocked bigger fish didn't hit the WR market in the spring

it's not a hard position to learn playbook wise, so a true alpha not making himself available is something I didn't forsee

Just out of curiosity, how much do you consider WR1 money? That’s extremely vague lol

We’re really good at evaluating the market, so I’m confident this kid is going to get the appropriate amount of money
