Surprises up front — where the O-line battle stands after camp

Mario and Mirabel have done nothing but produce good to great to best in country OL units since 2023. If and this is a big if in my opinion, this unit is a top 30 unit by end of year… it is by far the best coaching job they’ve done.

I will get negged/trolled but I just don’t see it. No coaching staff in America would have a prayer of making this unit into a legit playoff OL besides Mario+Mirabel: Undersized guard. 2 freshman with no collegiate snaps. A center who has injury issues. Supposedly nobody can snap the ball besides the starting center….

Going to be a fascinating watch all year to see it all come together + see the unit gel
Your logic is baffling.

Not that I know his ability but Wilkerson being the backup left tackle doesn’t give me the warm and fuzzies
Why he was had an Excellent Spring , is Ahead of Schedule on his development. He has The Talent , Size & the Coaches that develop O-lineman especially Tackles well.

It gives me the Warm & The Fuzzies to be a guy we see Play.

The same ones who cover the program and said we’d be fine in recruiting but you continued to bleed from your vag in every thread a few months ago and being a bit*h about us “whiffing”? That’s grand coming from you, but appreciate your .02.

Now, if someone with an actual set of balls and is a none whining hoe could answer me, that’s be great.
We need a "dead" reaction, please 💀

No back up center? How hard is it to snap a ******* ball? JFC.

It’s not just snapping in a vacuum. You’re making line calls, worrying about where you need to go then snapping the ball with a 300+ pound linemen breathing down your neck. He gets to fire off the ball immediately while you’re making sure your snap is accurate before you can get two hands on him (and your right hand isn’t able to fire as quickly). There’s a reason young centers don’t grow on trees.

The OL performance you see vs. Stanford should be a far cry from the one you see in November.

We are talking about two true freshmen being heavy in the rotation, a third being a player who mostly played FB last year, and a fourth who has mostly been injured here. Every spot on the OL is being manned by someone playing a new position.

If you look at the entire expected eight-man rotation:

Samson (G last year), now at LT
SJ (FB last year), now at LG
Rodriguez (started at LG vs. Florida, played some C)
Buchannon played sparingly, now at RG
McCoy played LG, now at RT
Cantwell new to college, played LT last year and now playing G
Congdon played T, now playing G
Meriweather played G and now is RT

That'll take time, my friends.
What you say about the OL needing time to gel is a universal fact, especially considering four starters from 2025 are now in the NFL. However, there were 5 instances in 2025 when the interior combo of Alofaituli_Rodriguez_Buchanan played alongside each other from left to right (Bethune, USF, Stanford, Syracuse, NC State). Okunlola played backup LT against Bethune and USF, but once he was hurt vs UF I think most, if not all of those LT2 snaps went to Plazz and Minaya later in the season.

Point being that while these are all new full-time roles, each of the projected starters (assuming Congdon/Cantwell come off the bench initially) except for McCoy played snaps at their respective positions in 2025, which may aid in hastening the unit's cohesion.

Who would? None of them played because cc and bell didn't get injured! so, no matter who you name minaya, cline, meriweather, cantwell, congdon, hawk, ervin, pickett, mccoy! It don't matter!!!

That’s a fair point lol just kinda hadn’t heard his name in a bit

Didn't we back off of Seaton?
Yeah! I was quoting a poster who made it seam we whiffed on multiple oline when we only really went after seaton! Or, does cline and hawk count?

Yep. Super frustrating we didn’t have the defense in 24, last yr I say this with all due respect to beck but we had the worst of the QBs between 24/25/26 and this yr I’m concerned about the OL… hopefully there’s so much talent around that group that they can hold their own and not hurt the team
Yeah I’m ready for the games to start because I think I’ve made the same post about 1,000 times but my concern with OL isn’t the starters, it’s that we have 3 that have had some injury troubles and now we have to have them healthy

We’ve had an astonishing amount of luck with OL injuries since Mario got here

I think Rodriguez is going to have a really good season. Samson and McCoy have both had good moments (Samson much moreso)

Saying “I trust the coaches” is boring but it definitely makes me feel easier about it all knowing these guys were comfortable not hitting the portal too hard. We were making jokes the last few years about offering basically every Center prospect in the portal

After so much consistency the last few years I know it’s going to look different, just not sure what that means yet

I’m actually pretty optimistic especially with how good Mensah is at moving in the pocket

It’s not even the backup center that is a worry for me. Honestly, I don’t trust Rodriguez until he goes out there and proves it on the field. I know it’s limited sample size but he’s never looked great out there. Granted, some of the tape is more than a year old and guys could get better as they age. But every time I’ve seen him, I’ve never thought to myself “I feel comfortable with this guy as a full time starter.” Hope he proves us dead wrong and has an all-ACC type of year.

Kid is a 6-6 330 former basketball player, and according to this staff he has NFL potential
He dropped body fat and was down to 315 when camp started. I will be interested to see if he gets any reps at T early in the season.
