Star infielder Vance Sheahan transfers to Miami

The Canes landed a huge piece of the 2026 team with the commitment of USC Upstate infielder Vance Sheahan.

A rising junior from Lake Worth, Florida, Sheahan slashed .328/.399/.522 with 16 2B, 12 HR, and 57 RBI. He also added 25 stolen bases for a USC Upstate team that won the Big South and made the tournament for the first time in school history. As a freshman in 2024, Sheahan hit .330 and won Big South Freshman of the Year.

Last summer, Sheahan put up a .934 OPS in the Northwoods League on the same team (Wasau Woodchucks) as Canes LF Max Galvin.

This was a big-time recruiting win over UNC and Clemson. Miami has invested significant resources into the Portal-- both for players and in the process-- and I expect higher-level recruiting wins now that there is more on-field success to sell. Sheahan committed this weekend while the Canes were in Louisville.

The Canes already addressed their need for corner infield size with the additions of the patient 6'4, 233-pounder FIU 1B Brylan West (12 HRs, 28 BB, 32 Ks) and the twitchy, high-upside Miami-Dade 1B/3B Cian Copeland (15 HRs in a pitcher-friendly park).

Ogden leaves I think he’s the leadoff. Ogden stays, I’d imagine 2 or 6 depending on if JD will go away from the r-l-r-l approach in the lineup.

Galvin likely 2, Cuvet 3, West 4, Copeland 5, and then either Galvin (if Sheahan is 2), Sheahan (if Galvin is 2), or Derek Williams, if he’s here, 6 (if Ogden leaves and Sheahan is 1 and Galvin is 2)

Lots of what if on who is here and who isn’t at this point

And yet Wareham has benched him two straight games, I don't think he will be seeing the bench anytime soon.

I think we're going to be really good next year. JD concentrated on pitching this year and for next year he's concentrating on getting sticks. I think he has real confidence in the freshmen arms and the returning pitching staff in general and I'm looking for a really strong year next year.

Not sure if either guy has a position at the next level? I guess Ogden can play outfield...
We can match their signing bonus+$25-30K.

Would be shocked regarding Galvin leaving. Ogden, more likely than not.

Us being really good hinges on Ogden returning and getting a starting catcher, middle relief and a
Starter.

evans in draft league today will be starting Sunday. threw an inning with 1 strikeout and 2 weak outs, fastball up to 94 with good off speed. keep eye on his summer stats along with other guys who can boost draft stock.
