Wanna know what's crazy, too? People only kissed his *** because they love you when you're gone, and it held true for Brashard and Rhett.

Brashard had a great year, and Rhett helped him become a 7th round pick, which likely wouldn't have happened here.

But you know how many carries he got last year? 235! And of qualified ball carriers, you know where he ranked in yards per carry?

95th.

But if you listen to this board, while we had THE NUMBER ONE OFFENSE IN THE ENTIRE COUNTRY, mind you, you'd think Brashard Smith was Roger Craig playing for Bill Walsh.

Lashlee had the same offense last year that he had here. SMU averaged 6.01 yards per play last season, good for 41st in America. You know how many he averaged when he was at Miami with D'Eriq King in 2020? 6.02 LOL.

This isn’t directed at you really but when Lashlee was here he was TRASHED for his lack of creativity in the run game

Then last year this board was kissing his *** for how he used Brashard Smith

No one has really ever been able to explain the “creativity” thing (I don’t think it’s a thing personally) but we played to our strengths at an elite level last year

Maybe it changes a bit this year based on personnel but who knows

We would have still beaten ISU in the bowl game if we kept running it when Emory was in. Or Syracuse if we just rode Martinez 8.4ypc clip. We just lined up and beat them up. What’s the deal with being “creative” when it’s not getting stopped?

Also just to add I’m not suggesting Dawson is some infallible perfect OC. I’ve just not really seen the evidence here
I get it. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I liked Lashlee here as well, but it worked for him at SMU. Due to him having some Miami caliber talent. I also think he’s a great play caller. I just believe having that type of talent in that scheme along with Jennings. Was a perfect fit. Now I’ll ask this. How was GT able to stop our run game on those 3rd and shorts? Honestly if we’re able to convert those. We win and wouldnt have to had taken those chances on 4th down. Do you think a bit of creativity, maybe a counter or draw could have made a difference. I only ask because I rarely see those plays in our scheme. I remember Fletcher scoring on a counter v FLA. Then it seemed to disappear.

They are moving Damari around. He wants to play so he will play other spots, but he really only wants to play outside. They tightened the splits early in Spring last year solely because Carpenter, no matter what is said, and it helped him immediately. Brock is athletic enough to run outside zone if they wanted too. You couldn't with Carpenter. I talked to 2 people after the scrimmage and they both mentioned a couple of the same players standing out. They both actually mentioned more players not mentioned by the other at all as standing out. That's how it goes. People watch different players. They can focus on positions our players they like and see plays differently.

Maybe we misunderstanding each other. I say our run game can and needs to be more explosive. Maybe it takes creativity or better backs. I think Lyle is our HR hitter. He will get opportunities, but the run game looked very unimaginative.
Imaginative? So if our run game lines up and mauls the other team to the tune of a 5 to 6 ypc average , you wont be happy cause its not imaginative?

People also act like we’re FSU out there.

I’ve already given the running game stats too many times, but he’s another one.

We were top 40 in the country in 10+ yard runs, 20+ yard runs, and 30+ yard runs. We weren’t #1 like we were in pass explosives, but this wasn’t 4 yards and a cloud of dust. We were plenty explosive in the run game, and even more so, we were incredibly efficient.

We had 21 runs of 20+ yards in 12 FBS games.

Penn State, with these super explosive NFL backs who are gonna finish 1-2 in Pedo State history in rushing had 23…in 16 games.

FSU had 5.

I don’t care if we run HB dive 40 times a game if we are averaging 5+ a clip. That shouldn’t matter to anyone, but par the course.

I think our run game will be plenty effective and good enough, but I still expect a slight drop off. Why? 1.) Martinez is gone, and was the best YAC runner that we have had here in quite some time. 2.) Run game becomes much easier when you have the best QB in the country.

Now, I fully expect several people to completely ignore the bolded part and solely focus on the rest of the last paragraph and blow it our of proportion and basically take my post as saying we will suck and have the worst run game in the ACC. All good, go Canes.

Of course we all would. Im not saying the run game is bad or ineffective. Just said it could use some explosiveness and creativity. Now we will have the explosiveness with Lyle getting more incorporated into the offense.
