Reed details Chief of Staff responsibilities, program expectations moving forward

Reed is going to resonate with parents so well. Humble, respectful, considerate and hard-working will speak to Mom. Best safety to ever play the game will speak to Dad.

Much, much better fit overall than Highsmith would've been.
I agree to a certain point. Reed is going to work wonders for this program in changing the culture within. Just getting the kids to be more together watching each other back regardless of position you play. Everybody are brothers and no division. Just getting them to be more studious of the game. No matter who the opponent Is. Fiinding out their weaknesses and how to attack it until they can stop you. This is the area all on the team could drastically improve on as well as Manny and the rest of the coaches from last year.

One thing I already like about Rhett is his goal is to attack the next teams weakness and use our strength until they prove they can stop us. This is something that was glaringly missing last year.

In the FIU game they had a DB that was toasted weeks before giving up massive amounts of yard in the passing game and we hardly ever challenged the guy. Even announcers were baffled as to why not go deep on him when he was in a ton of one on one situations.

No matter how great Reed and those guys were they still took advantage to prepare and studied to attack the weakness of the opponent. It wasn’t “we practice against ourselves and when we do we can hang with anybody”. That’s a lazy way of preparing for an opponent.

Manny as well as all the team need to be better prepared from week to week studying each opponent weaknesses and having a game plan in place to attack it. None of this scripted plays regardless of what’s going on the field at the moment! i hope Reed help in that Dept.

Highsmith’s value would have been in the position of Blake identifying the proper coaches to bring on board. Firing and hiring. No waiting to deal with inept coaches if they are not working out. Blake wouldn’t pull the trigger fast enough. And he lack just the intricacies of football like Highsmith could bring to the table and having connections in the NFL. We just don’t know the coaches he could have influenced to come here. I wouldn’t devalue Highsmths contribution to the program if he was here. Both he and Reed could bring valuable experience to the U if they both are here. JMO! Go canes!

I think I understand what he's trying to say, but what it does say is this job is not a priority.

What this says to me is that this job is mostly PR and vapor.

Correct. It's a fluff PR part time pastime. This is about selling tickets to a disgruntled fan base by attaching a Canes legend's name to the program. It's a publicity stunt. Ed Reed is being used as a human turnover chain.

You got an awful lot out of that 1 sentence huh? He literally used the words priority and Miami together and you turn around and say that what he said, says to you that Miami isn’t even a priority.

That’s our fanbase for you. Ignore 99% of what’s said, focus on 1 sentence that you don’t like, pick it apart and turn the situation into a negative.

I think he took this job to earn some extra cash. He is basically getting payed to just chill at home with his family. He probably going to make a few appearances to talk with recruits and talk with players. I assume he cant hit the recruting trail.

He'll be on the sideline during games. He'll do some motivational speeches. He'll meet with recruits when they come to campus. Few hours a week gig, if that.

I read all of it and see the "Chief of Staff" role for what it is: more trademark Manny Diaz PR fluff with no substance.

Well, I give priority to posting here after everything else I have to do.

A guy who is supposed to evaluate talent, strategize, and oversee player development who won’t be there every day is somewhat useless.
The more he is around the better

The other thing about Ed Reed, he was at the U for Five years. That helped him become who he was. Look at all the first rounders who stayed for four years or more on those teams.

You guys didn't really think he would have an office with his name on it and be doing a 9-5 at ole Greentree did you? Come on you have to be smarter then that.

He will be here during all of Spring practice which is about 2 months I think. As soon as Spring practice evals are over, he will leave and handle his other business. Then he will be back in time for Fall ball in August and will be here through the season. Why does he need to be here during the offseason? To go running on the beach with the players? Come on. You guys played yourselves on this one. That is all we need from him honestly. That is enough.

(EDIT: He will fly in for Paradise Camp weekend and make sure all the alumni come back and support too.)

I think that's too pessimistic. He's going to be a consultant and adviser to Manny. Nothing wrong with that. He'll be able to interact with and mentor not only players, but our generally very young coaches. We have a young coaching staff, for the most part. In hiring a more seasoned WR coach with OC experience, Lashlee might be looking for a guy whom he can bounce ideas off of. Many coaches have their own informal networks with coaches at other schools with whom they share ideas and discuss "x's" and "o's" issues and problems.

These guys constantly talk to friends in the coaching community.

I remember when John Thompson Sr. was having his best teams at Georgetown his wife was quoted as saying that when the phone rang after midnight it was always Dean Smith calling. The two coaches were close friends and reportedly spoke regularly.

I like the fact Ed can participate in telephone and on campus recruiting. He can be there for big visits, if not all visits. Some of these DBs we lost the last two years....can you imagine a personal call from a legendary defensive back? It might not have overcome bags that We had to compete with, but you never know how much it might help.

I don't see any problem with Ed Reed being part-time although I might have preferred full-time.
Yeah getting a call from Ed Reed closes the deal on some of the rumph kids he misses out on... perfect way to phone a friend lol...

Did you not listen to his other interview from last week? This isn’t about money
If it wasn’t about money, then he would have stayed home to spend time with his family and enjoy retirement

Or he's that passionate about the University that he gave his blood, sweat and tears to that he's willing to give up spending time with his family and enjoy retirement. The salary for this isn't even substantial enough for him to care.

Ed reed was looking for work. He is only 41 years and has kids. A lot of former athletes either work in the booth, become a sports writer or show host, coach or start their own business. He chose this job over others because he loves Miami and it sounds like a really easy job. He only has to be there a few hours a week.

Again listen to what he said in his interview earlier this week. Reed is passionate about Miami football period.
favorite quotes in the interview so far

“I’m not coaching for money, I didn’t come back to Miami for money. It’s about having that standard that we had. I didnt See that standard.”

Another great quote
“If you ain’t coachable and they don’t want to be part of the university of Miami team. Team first, they need not be here. They can go ahead and get in the transfer portal, if that’s what you want to do and transfer to another school. I promise You we are going to coach those other kids up and they going to play their hearts out.

“If you ain’t going to play together, if you not going to demonstrate togetherness on and off the field we don’t need you as hurricane because that’s what we are about.”

“There’s 2 people in life, ones who like the perks and ones who like to work. You ain’t coming to Miami for the perks, you coming to Miami to work”

It's a ceremonial b.s. part time job with absolutely no power or control. Are you people actually falling for this banana in the tailpipe again?
Better than falling for the proverbial banana up the ****, again. Isn't it?

I hope you realize that he was looking for a jobs with Fox, ESPN and CBS. He wouldn’t have done this job for free. Know body in their right mind would work for free.
