Randy Russell decommits -- more info

Three-star Carol City prospect Randy Russell has decommitted from Miami.

Miami got the sense early this week that Russell was set to decommit after visiting UF last weekend. Russell was communicating to the UM staff during the weekend that he was 'solid' in his commitment, but that tune changed when he returned. He was a player that the Miami defensive staff loved as a box safety and thumper, but a source said that they will not re-recruit and fight to keep him. Russell is expected to land at Florida.

So where does Miami go from here at DB in 2018? Well for one, they are completely content with keeping Josh Jobe and Gurvan Hall as the two safeties in the class. I'm hearing that an offer is set to come Nigel Bethel, Jr.'s way very soon at the cornerback position. He is a prospect that UM desperately wants in the class and Russell's decision now gives them the flexibility to do just that. Again, Miami did not drop Russell at all. Miami is recruiting both Tyson Campbell and Al Blades, Jr. at cornerback as well, with D.J. Ivey already in the fold. Canes commit Gilbert Frierson also has the skill set to play safety if the coaches want.

So easy to fall in love with this dudes tape. He hits. He tackles in his highlights. Coaches and scouts have seen something though. If we are not re- re crootin, then he just is not good enough. Even though he was only a 3*, he is a very good player from SoFl. It speaks volumes for this class on the DB side if he de commits and we don't give a flying F@#k.

I think RR can play and he could prolly play for us. I don't know if he could make an impact early though. We got guys committed right now that can and will contribute early. Hopefully this makes room for another.

Fact of the matter is recruiting is dynamic. Things constantly change. Pete might have some info or whatever but I wouldn't take everything he says as gold. Maybe what he said was true at the time but chit changes. Some of y'all need to take a few steps back and chill.

I think they do GAF but it's a question of resources. If this kid can't look at his game and see how well he fits in Diaz system, you're not going to convince him to stick.

No way I take him over Derek Smith, kid is tiny compared to smith . Derek is also a good athlete for his size.

When a kid commits, it is odd to say it won't stick. You were correct this time. Congrats! I don't think that is the right time to be banging the he won't stick drum!

I think Frierson should have always been at safety anyway. Russell leaving lets Frierson play at his natural position and gives us a even better look at safety....addition by subtraction.

As long as Hall sticks we are fine. He is just as much of a thumper and is a much better athlete than Russell.

Yeah, I don't see Ivey flipping. He's one of, if not the most solid, of all our DB commits. Don't just assume because he's the lowest rated that he might be a flip candidate.

That's exactly what I'm saying, another school will offer more playing time to him early. NONE of these kids look like cane locks except for Gilbert Frierson & Al Blades jr

Ivey isn't going anywhere , and is the best cover guy of the bunch. We need him in this class.
