Purdue DT Branson Deen Transfers to Miami

I liked DJ a lot but he didn’t play like his size most times. It got worse as the year unfolded. I thought he was a space eater but eventually it was obvious he was a huge 3 tech playing 1tech. He wanted to get up field, not eat space or doubles.
good point. i think a big guy would be nice to have for short yardage/goal line. hopefully they get the kentucky guy sorted or someone similar to him. i wonder if any of our OGs could flip to DT since we've revamped the OL room so much.

Would still love to see a 0/1T added to replace Jackson, but this is another very quality pickup.

This kid is a grown man, has spent years battling the biggest and most physical lines in the country week in and week out and was very productive.

This is a big win for Miami. I still think DT is going to be a spot that doesn’t yet look like it should look at Miami, but it’s getting there.

any good? we need the bodies so im not gonna complain lol

right let's be real, you don't want to be shopping in the portal for DTs. look back thru the 247 transfer portal rankings the last two seasons, you can count the number of DTs on two hands. the best of the bunch are either productive smaller school or lower P5 players or kids like Adeleye from A&M who were highly ranked but haven't produced. you can probably find some depth pieces which it looks like we've done, but the guys you need at that position to really compete at high levels are going to come thru recruiting.

To be elite again, we'll have to get back to crushing it on the recruiting trail at the DT position. Given the transfers out at the DT position, the staff didn't have a choice but to take the best available players in the Portal. Deen has been quite productive in a conference that tends to play a physical brand of ball. I think he'll bring toughness, discipline & effort to the position (and set a good example for the younger players). It's a good pick-up for us. Welcome to the U, Mr. Deen!

Very possible. He’s a good player , he’s just been injured. I think there could be another cb possibly entering the portal soon they’ll make a run at. I could see one more there and an attempt at a safety.
What ever happened to the war daddy DT that was talked about a few weeks back? Ended up not entering??

Most kids don't want to eat double teams. All the DTs we've signed lately are 3T Horton,Moten.Would be nice if for 24 we sign a 330+ DT that comes in knowing he's a space eater and not diet or lose weight dreaming of sacking QBs.

Out
Roberts
Miller
Jackson
Haye

In
Horton
Deen
Gore

Returning
LT
JHH
Mesidor
Moten

Add one NG and the DT/NG is significantyl better than last year.

If you're going to add Horton as an "In", you need to add Moutlrie to the "Out" bucket.
Lichtenstein also "Returning".
Not sure JHH is a guaranteed "Returning".

So with those adjustments:
* 5 out and potentially 6 depending on JHH ... including ALL 3 of our Big Men
vs.
* 3 In

We need to add at least 1 NG, arguably 2.

It's not the end of the world. The talent is okay. But the depth of talent is a concern. And we're too one dimensional to compete at a high level with the current DT room.

Really real talk, if you told me you could only have 1 football player on your team for 2023, DJack or Deen, take your pick….the answer is Deen.

And I understand they aren’t asked to do the same things. I also want to be clear I’m not being salty. I hated losing DJ and I hate he went to FSU and would take him back here in a second, he’s a good football player. But in a complete vacuum, if you can only have one, Deen has been the better player to this point in his career. No bull****.

From Norton, Jon Ford to Djax last year I can't remember a year when we didn't have an exp NT. Maybe not having one would be a nice change up for the year.
Moten isn’t a 1-tech?
