And that’s exactly where Sean separated from everybody. Just his ability to dominate the Alley with physicality and toughness that was unrivaled. Like I said, build and speed, this kid compares to him but other than that, you’re just not gonna see another Sean T again. One of a kind right there.

Ehhh, i think ESPN is just moreso a follower than anything else. 247 just bumped up Hyppolite after Rivals went first, both of them before he committed, so ESPN is taking note and following suit
Think so and this kid is exhibit A. Doesnt come from a SFLA juggernaut and did not participate in any camps yet flew up the rankings.
Unsure about this. Was completely unranked for the reasons you outlined. Services realized his ranking was wrong due to the schools that were offering him and the articles that were being written. If he had committed to Minnesota he still was due for a big ratings bump.
Now you and @AtlAtty will be right if he gets the necessary bump into the 25-50 range. That's really where he should be if properly ranked.

No, and no player I’ve ever seen since Sean does. Sean was one of a kind.. Sean might’ve been the hardest hitter I’ve ever seen play the game.

What is funny to me about the rankings is that everyone says Andre was ranked lower than he should have been because he doesn’t go to camps. Which I take as a fair point considering that it seems next to impossible to determine rank between players when those players do not go against each other. To a degree this is always the problem in football, but the camps have helped a bit. At least we see guys against each other, albeit in camp settings like 1on1 drills, which can’t mimic game situations despite the best efforts.
This is unlike basketball where AAU games at least are games and you can see 2 PG’s play against each other.
And now Andre’s ranking improves. But from what? If he has not gone to camps then he is theoretically the same player today as he was at the end of the last season. Because there is literally no data point to change the ranking. So on what basis does the ranking change? Nothing has happened by way of his play to increase or decrease his ranking…EXCEPT his commitment to Miami. But if I’m an “analyst” and I have seen nothing different from him with my eyes, or on video, then on what data point am I changing his ranking?
If the answer is the commitment then it shows you what we have always suspected, which is that the tail (commitment) is wagging the dog (ranking). It’s all so much f*cking BS.
There are so many prospects out there and its easy even today for some to fall through the cracks. So if the attention has turned to a new cycle and a kid isnt going to camps they will never get a proper look over(whatever that actually means) because no actual football is being played yet.
Now all of a sudden you find out that a school like Miami which is also local has offered, a school that now is producing and identifying NFL talent. You then find out through the local writer for the school that Miami not only offered the kid but they have him at the top of their board at the position. All of a sudden you need to watch the kid's tape, go start talking to people about the kid. Now word is getting out and UGA and ND have offered. Now people are watching tape with all that in mind and its easy to develop a positive bias for the kid.

I would think that it makes sense. The professionals and the experts are on the teams. If the media were good at those decisions they’d be employed by the teams like Louis Riddick in the NFL or John Hollinger in the NBA. And if you suck,
Like Mike Tannenbaum you go from the professional executive space to a media analyst. So I agree it’s pretty stupid but the transfer portal is what woke me up to it. Cam Ward was not seen as the top player in the portal or the top QB on sites but Mario was willing to consult Lucifer to steal him from the NFL, same with Mensah. Keionte Scott was a three star portal player and again outside of Fernando Mendoza their isnt a single player from that portal class I would want more in hindsight. The Miami bump is real and deserved. The idea that Andre Hyppolite may be one of the best players in the country and not just South Florida is a a testament to our evaluations since Malachi Toney was also a three star and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a freshman that good play here. I trust Mario and I think the sites do as well. But that would mean there is no point in paying for content with them if they aren’t really an authority.
He’s not the first. Emory didn’t camp or play 7 on 7 and he was ranked as a low 3 star outside the top 1000 until he committed to us ending up at 628.
