Looks savage
I have ptsd
I remembering watching gurvan halls hs clips and thinking the same thing
This. Idk if it was coaching at the time but I still don’t know how hall didn’t become at minimum a day 2 draft pick and all American while he was here

But this is a different coaching staff, locker room and of course player so I can’t wait to see how he develops here

Coaching is the simple answer, but its more than that. Today every single day these guys have to be at their best or they'll get passed up. They have a constant sense of urgency to improve as fast and as much as possible. This is ingrained over time into players by Cristobal. When Hall came in it wasn't like that here.

As a former big time athlete, I can tell you firsthand how much this matters. You would be shocked at how many times player A (not as talented but in a great program) ends up better than player B (very talented, not forced to work hard on a bad team). Gurvan Halls top 2 were us and Bama. I guarantee you he is a completely different player and is probably in the nfl today if he played for Saban.

The most important trait in coaching is being able to get players to reach their personal best. We have that now, but haven't had that since Butch previously.

Thats why our team and Indiana won in the playoffs. Oregon on the other hand (lanning recruits top players but doesn't get their best) got smoked.

Coaches that have that intangible:
- Mario
- Saban
- Kirby (he just doesn't acquire as much talent as he used to)
- Dabo (same as kirby but even less talent).
- Freeman unfortunately
- Cignetti
- Probably Day

Coaches that don't:
- Lincoln Riley
- Dan Lanning
- Sark
- Lane Kiffin

Lot more on both lists, but it is most obvious to me in big games. Theres a reason why texas and oregon and lincoln riley at oklahoma would consistently lose in big games and look soft.

So many casuals think of coaching purely as xyz's and talent. Well if you can't get their very best then you waste that. Dynastys happen when you combine all 3. We're so lucky Cristobal believes in this thinking more than anyone.
