I agree with this as well and as long as his surgery and rehab went well he could be stronger in the long run.

I don't buy into the idea of kids that are elite athletes being affected by the "wear and tear" of HS football.

In college, sure. In the NFL, most definitely. In HS, they are physically superior to almost everyone else on the field, even if they are getting tackled often, it's not that serious. Sony was getting less run than HS players that go both ways.

I realize they're not getting hit as hard as they will in college, it's still a lot of carries when you see kids starting in 8-9th grade. That's going to be over a 1,000 carries in their HS career.

I get you. I just don't think it is an issue. Often when a HS team has a stud RB, they end up making him their offense and go as far as he can take them. That is VERY common. With that, I'm not sure I can think of examples of a major prospect seemingly being worn out entering college due to his workload at the HS level.

Its not just the contact, its the wear and tear on joints. I played a million years of baseball growing up, a relatively non-contact and non-cardio sport, but I have wear and tear in my knees and shoulders from it. But I think its more likely to shorten his future NFL career than affect college performance.

I'm not saying it will have no effect at all. Sure, maybe ten years down the line, one or two issues will come up a little sooner because of the general constant heavy load for years and years. But, overall, a superior athlete getting a ton of reps in HS is the norm. Some more than others, but I don't think it warrants the attention or concern that some like to place on it.

Baseball, could be worse for something like this IMO, because it doesnt matter if its the HS, college or pro level, you are doing the same exact focused motions repetitively.

In football, the majority of wear comes from the physicality of the game, not over exerting your arm in an unnatural throwing motion or swinging motion an absurd amount of times a week. It actually makes a lot more sense in baseball because of the extremely focused movements.

I played football my whole life - pop warner, HS (going both ways often) and college - and I don't think it is a valid concern. At the college level, then it can be a discussion when he's entering the NFL and he's been ridden hard

Yearby is too high, IMO. When I saw him live, I was impressed but not blown away.

Don't get me wrong- he is a natural runner and should be a very productive college back. He's efficient in his cuts and instinctive, kind of like a smaller Mark Ingram. But I don't see the unique talent of a Duke, Sony or Collins.

He's probably a 4.6-4.7 guy, and guys like Deon Bush run him down pretty easily on film. Frank Gore and Emmitt Smith weren't burners either, but they were so special in every other facet. I'd rank the South Florida RBs thusly: Sony (assuming he returns to pre-injury form, he has the total package), Collins and then a push between Yearby (better now) and Cook (more upside). I'm not a big Greg Bryant believer.

I agree 100% with that rb write up. I saw yearby play twice last year and watching Sony vs. him is night and day. I will have to go check out a Collins game or 2 this year.

Pe-knee injuries, gore was very quick, if not super fast. He'd squirt through a hole faster than just about any "faster" backs.

IMO 40 times are distracting/misleading for RBs. Far more important is quickness, acceleration, balance, change of direction and feel/vision, and second effort. So many people want 'burners.' gimme the qualities just noted all day, very day.

Oh, I forgot about feet. ******* Achilles and bone spurs lately. FML.

Yeah bro, but you stopped after college, right? No pro career so you got to stop and heal your body at a young age. Getting pounded on the field from 10-22 but stopping there, is a LOT different than going on to 30 with NFL contact.

-Michel's highlights wow you. He's just a different back, and you can see it. He's got it all.

-Coley is also just a natural. He's better than everyone on the field. Freak.

It would be a **** shame to not get either of those guys. I think we have a plan in place for Coley. If he meets the targets, he's in and coming. Book it now. Special player.

Coley, Whitfield, and Lane is all I need for the next two years at WR.

I love Will Likely. What a special football player. Where do you think he ends up Peter?

IDK why but my gut just tells me we should take this kid. Reminds me of Ed Reed. Not the tallest/fastest/strongest but a pure football player. I could see him finding ways to make plays.

I know we say that about a lot of guys, but it's more true for Likely than anyone else I can think of.

This is coming from a guy who's on the fence about taking Jermaine Grace.

I feel you when it comes to going after guy that have those superior instincts ala Ed Reed/ John Vilma, but to me he doesn't have the size to be that every down type player to fit into any scheme, making him unworthy of one of the limited schollies we have right now. The Matthieu kid from LSU is an anomaly, don't get caught getting smaller when there are diamonds all over the place to step right in. Just my 2 pennies. By the way, Grace is a stud bro, DP 2.0

I just watched Sony's highlights for the first time. Wow. Future nfl back barring injury.

I have a feeling Will Likely and Rashad Robinson both sign with LSU.

Then again, Miami could end up with Tim Williams and Standish Dobard, so that feels like a pretty even trade.

Coley looks great to me, but I don't like that he trips over his feet a lot. I know that is a minor detail, but the ability to stay on your feet is critical.

I'm with you. I love Likely and not too crazy about Grace. Give me football instincts over combine guys any day of the week.
