2019 Flint Hill (VA) DB Trey Rucker was a bit of an unknown coming into the Opening Miami Regional. With the vast majority of the field from the South Florida area, Rucker made the weekend trek all the way from Virginia to help start putting his name on the radar. And it worked, as he was one of the better DB’s at the event and even clocked in as one of the top 15 fastest players overall with a 4.59 40 yard dash.
“I learned a couple tweaks here and there, just to make my game even better,” Rucker said. “I’m pretty sure I was one of the top DB’s, but I didn’t get recognized at the moment. It’s fine, though.”
His great performances aren’t exclusive to camps, though. Rucker, who lists himself at 6’0” 185 pounds, had a huge junior season on his way to All-State recognition and a state title.
“We did pretty well, went undefeated and won states. I was first-team All-State safety in Virginia,” Rucker said. “I had 65 tackles, 5 interceptions, 7 TFL, 11 PBU, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, and 200 punt return yards.”
While Rucker currently sports no offers, he’s in contact with a few schools regularly and any one of them could be on the verge of offering the talented DB. Those schools?
“Clemson, Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Michigan, Old Dominion, Temple, and UMass,” Rucker outlined.
So, Rucker isn’t currently hearing from Miami, but he’d like to be: it was part of the reason he made the drive to South Florida.
“I had to come down to Miami, show some love to my dream school, ‘The U’,” Rucker said.
With visits on tap the next few weekends, recruiting is about to pick up for the rising senior DB.
“I’m going up to Temple this weekend,” Rucker said. “Next couple of weekends I’ve got Old Dominion, UMass, Virginia Tech.”
While Rucker is currently planning to decide his college future after his senior season, it’ll be location and comfortability that sets that one school apart.
“One is the location, because I want to stay on the east coast,” said Rucker. “Then, two, is what fits me the best, what school can I show out at.”
