He’s more of a HB/FB than he is a TE. If he improves his inline blocking he will be valuable. We should not change our pass game for him at all tho, imagine having our wr room and thinking we should cater to an unproven TE lol

Lofton was clearly injured much of the season, and finished on the injured list, missing the national championship game.

Has he been overhyped? Probably. But then this is messageboard chatter so take it for what it’s worth. CIS and every board for every school always has incoming players that are the next greatest player. Lofton wasn’t the first and won’t be the last.

He has also flashed a lot of ability when used other than as an in-line blocker. I would not be surprised if those responsibilities lead to some of his nagging injuries.

He is a tool, meant in the best possible way, Dawson needs to figure out how to use and get the most production from without taking production from other players, while maximizing production overall. He is a unique player.

That’s why Dawson gets the big money.

You did the same thing talking **** to people how everyone was too stupid to see how good Emory was as well

Hopefully you’re as loyal to your woman as these guys
Never did I say how good Emory is. I said he was good enough for what we would've needed out of him playing a possession offense & Mario was fine with him at the time. You wanna lie on me it's not new on here so run with that. Real easy to find out the truth to what I said.

I understand that everyone expected more after D$ and others hyped him up so much. But JFC give the kid a break.

Lofton had a sophomore slump, was overweight and injured. It happens. He also had a heck of a catch in the Ole Miss game, started flashing again late in the season before that injury. For most tight ends, their third year is their breakout year. Let's see how it plays out.

With this offense and the weapons we have at QB and WR, I prefer a 4-wide base, but the 20-personell we ran last year could also be interesting with Lofton, especially with motion. You can use him (and Toney) pretty much anywhere. Just don't force the kid to block on bunch sets and he'll be fine. He's not really a TE, so don't use him that way.

Before portal closed I said Fletcher should have declared for Draft, Lofton moved to RB, and we should have signed the best Portal TE we could....

With Fletcher returning I think Brown portalling and Lofton still moving to RB and us signing a portal TE still would have made sense tbh. Would have made a lot of sense to me tbh...

Why was he 250-plus? No wonder he looked sluggish & slow.
Because young players out of high school need to rebuild their bodies to deal with the strain of college.

This especially comes down to the tight end position. To get good weight, you have to gain some bad weight first.

Man that is some crazy stuff. I know the president of Taylor Farms, Mexico and have been at their farm in Queretaro several times. They lease over 40,000 acres from private Mexican growers, oversee the planting and crop maintenance, and THEY do the harvest and processing in a state-of-the-art facility that is like a US hospital operating room. Their logistics are so well operated that Taylor Farms has an agreement with US customs that the SAME tractor trailer and reefer that are loaded AT the packing facility actually makes the deliver to the US supermarket ... no breaking the cold chain for trans shipping. Shows that that stuff can happen virtually anywhere.

I think the hope is he likewise gained some muscle. I am no rugby trainer so take this with a grain of salt but to me it looked like he got hurt, picked up bad eating habits, gained bad weight which led to more injuries and thus had a lackluster year. For what we are asking him to do I think the 240 range at 6'3 ish to start the season is likely best (knowing people usually lose some weight during the season). But a good 240, not what we saw last year and then hopefully with good weight we dont have all the injuries.
Curious why you think it was bad eating habits/bad weight. I kind of assumed he bulked up trying to get more reps at/as a traditional TE. Figured he realized it slowed him down and made him sluggish so that's why he decided to trim back down.

should just be used in the brevin jordan role. he isnt a traditional TE. draw up some plays for him but he shouldnt be one of the main blockers.
This is closer to it imo. Everyone disappointed is b/c they're comparing to traditional (good) TE numbers, and the kid's just not a traditional TE. He's more an H-back/specialty player, and I expect his numbers won't be that different this year either (especially with our wr talent). Which is fine by the way - kid can still impact games with those numbers.

Well, if he lost 10 lbs, does this mean he’s no longer the Mike Alstott/Lorenzo Neal hybrid that half this board thinks he will be if moved to fullback?

No reason to carry that kind of weight almost 3 years into the program.

Gavin Mueller might be hard to keep off the field. Kid is supposed to be a work out monster and incredible athlete, especially for his size. Has 4.5 forty speed, and can catch. It is all up to Dawson to get production from that group ... there is talent there that would be THE featured threat on most ACC teams.

I think both he and Briggs have some serious potential and will be folded into the play calling this year .

I’ve been saying this for a while, and I will continue to say it.. Mali’s work ethic has been contagious for this team. When your best player is your hardest worker, everyone else will follow his lead. And that’s when you have a special kind of football team. If Lofton becomes the weapon we all know he can be, there’s no stopping this offense.
