Maybe something the coaches should have looked into before signing him.
They do look into stuff like that. You don't pass-up on elite athletes in your backyard though. Even if there are some concerns, you hope that the added structure and more detailed coaching will help him adapt. Also, high school coaches ain't always honest with college recruiters. They sell their kids. (not saying that's what happened here though)

This is not a missed eval by the staff.
Patterson was a take for almost every coach in the country, including coaches who produce NFL DB's every year. This is exactly why it's important to stack elite talent, because some will pan-out and some will fold under the demands of college football. Happens everywhere.

Would you have passed up on James Williams?
Cause he had the same exact issues.

Actually...
Manny would keep kids on the team who had issues with work-ethic, drugs and discipline. He let them get away with murder. Mario sends them packing.
not to mention giving high school coaches beers at clinics!

i kid -- and i totally get it. but it doesn't change the fact that manny was 21-15 and mario is 22-16 with infinitely more resources.

I don't question whether he was a take. The highest paid guys shouldn't have character concerns imo. Overall the evaluation process is concerning so I was pointing out a possible contributor.

The hype on this kid coming out of HS smh
He still Has a Chance to develop into a good Football playmaker if he dedicates himself .I ‘ll be honest I’m Shocked That it is character/ work Ethic issues.
** Wondering if Having so much NIL Money so Soon he Loss his Focus on thr main thing?
Coming out High school he wasn’t he a Leader? Youth & Money + Women =

Do you think having So much Money at such at young age all at one Time had a negative Effect? I think it did
It may be a maturity issue

I hear ya bro...

But A LOT of these new age kids have character issues. (especially some of the higher ranked ones)

I'd venture to say that it's probably worse than most fans could imagine. The stuff I hear, I'm just like 😳🤦🏻‍♂️ (nationwide, not pertaining solely to Miami)

If we passed up on every kid with underlying concerns, we'd struggle to field a team with elite athletes. Lol

Manny inherited 1/2 team that he coached and recruited for 4 years

His side of the ball regressed every single year he was HC here. He couldn’t even hire a DC his last season

Mario has his issues but to compare the 2 situations is disingenuous in TrumpyCanes opinion

Maybe they did know about it and they gave the kid a chance because he’s talented. Maybe they told him exactly what they expected from him and he didn’t reciprocate the effort. I guarantee you he isn’t leaving because of talent.

I’ve said this a bunch on here. Talent is the most ready available skill in youth sports but it’s also the most wasted.
Talent isn’t a rare commodity. It’s actually in abundance. The work ethic to maximize it and expand on it is what is rare.

What in the **** is wrong with you? Like, seriously, what is wrong with you?

Do you honestly think a high school transcript includes "late for football practices"? Or that the UM coaches did NOT ask about such things? This has been a standard part of the UM football background check since Butch and Pete invented their 5x7 index card tracking system in the 1990s, and I **** sure know that JJ asked about such things.

Or maybe, just maybe, 18 year old kids undergo changes in their behavioral patterns the first time they are out of the house and living on their own.

But, sure, you and AngryIbis are just going to blame the UM coaches. It's what you do, no matter the circumstance, in every situation. You can't help or control yourselves.

You're a genius, alright. Hey, maybe someone should tell Mario to ask about the work habits of recruits. Why didn't anyone think of this in, say, the 1980s?

Not being able to hire a DC definitely was an issue for manny. Not for Mario, though. He’s hired a bunch.

And they were all better than Manny’s last season

So what’s that say about Manny?

TrumpyCane would love to hear your rebuttal

And don’t worry TrumpyCane already checked the stats with Guidry last year in both ACC play and full schedule

Spoiler

Guidry still had better defensive numbers

Oh great, we’re arguing over who’s the taller midget again.

Mario should never be in the same conversation as manny, and yet we’re here because he’s continuously underwhelmed each season with infinitely more resources.

Make the ******* postseason in Y4 or get out.

Pretty sure everyone agrees Mario has no excuses this year, TrumpyCane has been harping he has no excuses since this is 99.9% his roster

TrumpyCane wasn’t the one initially to compare the 2

Just love how everyone all of a sudden wants to use the excuse “if only manny had the same resources”

He had massive resources at Texas, how did that end up for him

Manny Mario
6-7 5-7
8-3 7-6
7-5 10-3

Nobody can deny one of these looks a little better than the other. Thats not even considering one coach was part of the previous regime while the other was a teardown/rebuild. The recruiting trend for one was also heading completely into the dumpster while the other realistically has us expecting top 10 classes.

No sane person would want to have Diaz year 4 team and him returning as coach vs Mario and this team at the same stage. Thats not even debatable.
