While Miami fans scramble with all the news surrounding the 2026 class , the ‘Canes have gone out and landed a stud in the 2027 class with defensive back Jaylyn Jones.
A 6 foot, 180 pound safety from Hollywood, FL, Jones has been one of the best pass disruptors in South Florida for Western and now for McArthur — racking up 14 pass breakups and three interceptions alongside 82 tackles and three sacks.
Jones is a ballhawk safety who’s instincts and football IQ already stand out as a sophomore, consistently making the right reads. And it’s not just instincts, he has a great burst to cover a large part of the field — really able to break on throws with ease.
Being a 2027 recruit means Jones will continue to develop physically, but he’s already shown signs of his physicality with the stats he’s put up. The frame is there to build on as he will continue to develop to match his instincts in the open field.
The Hurricanes beat out the likes of Florida State, Texas A&M, and Missouri for the rising star as the staff continue to prioritise landing top local talents to build the foundation for their recruiting classes.
Jones becomes the third commit in Miami’s 2027 class, joining fellow four-stars Ah’mari Stevens and Kenton Dopson. The ‘Canes have now landed two crucial pieces for their secondary with Dopson and Jones, a pair who will be cornerstones on the defensive side of the ball for the class.
