Lets get back to the kid. Why does he like UF?? Kinda seems weird since Calvin is a Miami lean and I haven't heard Calvin mention UF much. Hope both of these young men get to the U!

I would suspect because he is what 15, 16 years old? well go back 8 years and go back 6 years. His first real impressions of college football as an 8-10 year old saw our old buddy Urb dominating the college landscape with the likes of Tebow, Percy, Dunlap, Spikes, Wright, Haden, Cooper, etc. all bigtime NFLers except Timmy.

Like it or not, there was a **** ton of talent on that team, and this is why WE need to start winning asap. This program is in position to do just that, Al needs to make it happen

Most of the people on this board are middle class whites.. they have No idea is what a broken home looks like...

Some middle class "whites" came from broken homes. Some have worked with kids who come from broken homes. ****ed up family situations aren't exclusive to skin colors. ****'s everywhere.

Totally agree, those kids need a mentor, not a street agent, who can help get them on the right track. They have a big future in front of them if they can get the academics and non-football stuff stabalized.

that's where I feel like Ice Harris's job can come in handy.

also the program that D Jackson is starting sounds like a great plan as well: to set up University of Miami students as mentors for struggling high school and middle school kids in tough living situations.

Agree that Ice should help a great deal in these instances.

AG will get these kids admitted with special circumstances.

Go Canes

Yeah like Griffin....Thanks.

Golden can't control if idiots like Griffin up and leave prep school.

He isn't controlling anything academically with these borderline recruits. It's up to them and their inner circle to do the work, not Al...

I agree.
Now the haters are going to blame Al for a kid not being able to get an 18 on the ACT, which is well below the average percentile.

Golden can't take the test for them.

There are tough situations in America for everybody, but these kids probably see academic casualties on the streets every day.
There's always those incredible former athletes who didn't make it to college or in college still balling on the playground.
They've heard how important academics are since Pop Warner.

Home life can oftentimes make school difficult, if not impossible and I'm not going to guess the hurdles these 2 brothers have, although I can imagine.
I don't think their problem is a below average intellect.
Let's hope they can both find some stability now that they are both at a private school, and make it into college.

Odds this kid goes to Florida?

He's already in Florida.

You mean the gators.

Sorry, being a Cane, I can't use "Florida" in referring to them, as if they are The whole **** state.
They may think of themselves as The University of the state, but to me they are just another state school sucking of the state ***.

Uh, yeah, I think we have a pretty good idea of what a broken home looks like.

For instance, right now my filter is broken for my salt water pool. It's like the God damned Dead Sea out there, and I have no idea when Jose is going to be able to stop by and fix it.

Also, I updated my iPad and the program that controls the curtains in my bedroom isn't working, so now I have to get out of bed to open them in the morning. So don't sit there and talk to me about not knowing how hard it is to go through struggles. It's not just happening to certain races in certain areas -- we all have hardships and crosses to bear.

Well, seeing their school is the University of Florida. I'll call them florida. We are the University of Miami, I will call us Miami. They are Florida State University, I will call them Florida State

Quit being a ***.

dude ineligible? if you go to school and cant get a 2.0 that's horrible. i grew up in a home where my dad was never there, mom died at 14 and was nowhere near middle class. but not having a 2.0 is like not trying and i dont even know why its legal for college coaches to speak with someone who is struggling so much in school no matter how much talent he has

The Ridleys have a very, very tough situation at home. I won't get into details on here, but the people who are blaming the parents or lack of guidance need to understand that it is deeper than just bad grades.

so we have no shot at them.

Thanks, Donna

So if he can't even get a 2.0 in high school with all the easy classes that can be taken in high school to boost your GPA then there is probably no chance that this kid will be able to get his core GPA up for NCAA eligibility

Grades can be pulled up. You guys do know Tyree Brady didn't play his sophomore year due to grades and he's going to qualify to play for UM this year. If a kid buckle down and does his school work he can qualify with ease. With online, night school and summer school he can qualify.

Good point on Brady but let's not forget he hasn't taken the field yet. There's still obstacles, but a good point regardless.

i dont understand how kids get below a 2.0 @ ............................................a Private School.

All the money these schools supposedly charge ( i know their on scholarship), but their smaller classes, less things to actually do @ school etc....i dunno man.

I mean in the public school system in s.fla its a lot more factors......but majority of these privates down here dont face the same problems..whens the last time a kid ain qualify from STA?....or Cardinal Gibbons?
