Marquise Lightfoot commits to Miami

In perhaps the biggest recruiting win of the cycle thus far, the Miami Hurricanes landed the commitment of elite pass-rusher Marquise Lightfoot from Chicago.

Lightfoot, the #6 ranked EDGE prospect and the #67 player overall in the 247 Composite rankings, chose Miami over Ohio State and USC. The 6'5", 220-pound edge rusher from Kenwood Academy sat high on Miami’s overall board due to his combination of length, explosive power, closing speed and effort. I’m told he looked the part of an elite prospect in person, and the coaches absolutely love his aggressive nature on special teams.

While many thought he would sign with the Buckeyes, Miami made a huge move on his official visit this past weekend. This was a huge win for Mario Cristobal, who desperately needed recruiting momentum after the losses of DT Justin Scott and WR Jacory Barney.

imo lightfoot and Ny Carr are underrated. No one talks about lightfoot and the kid is a beast.

I think the skepticism on Lightgoot comes from people getting hopes up over Moss. A lot of our fans don't understand nuance.

Miami fans ****ing me off with the moss and Lightfoot comparisons. This lightfoot kid has played de for years and has an elite get off, moss not even in the same stratosphere… plus he will put on weight easily, he has a better frame for it. Y’all gotta stop being so traumatized

He’s the twitchy edge we’ve been missing since Greg and JP left… he’s probably easily a year away from being big time but if he can step in with speed rushes and get 3 or 4 sacks it only makes Bain (and the rest of the Dline) so much better

At least. We were spoiled by what Francis and Reuben were able to produce this season. Outside of WR and an occasional RB or DB the vast majority of 4-5 stars take 1-2 seasons to be impactful. The "3rd year Step" still applies.

I agree that what we need most from these kids are to be able to take reps coming off the bench without getting exploited by mismatches. If a couple are starting by season's end because they beat out starters, not due to injury, then even better. But hopefully Mario will fill any holes in the 2-deep with portalers and not need to rely on the first-years.

He’s insanely quick off the edge. You can find a spot for 6-4 212 standing up in third down. Same with pickett. You expect these kids can at the least gain 10-15 pounds at the least. And luckily for us, Bain is 275, and Scott and Jones are massive. So with those big dudes you can get away with a smaller edge attacking. The talent is coming for sure

I reallly felt like we would land Ward or Howard and that would help this team win 10 games. Especially with the schedule. And that would mean Mario does something stupid and loses us 2 games. Do we try and land the mid from Liberty? No idea. But Brown or Williams ….if they start, we will win 8 games and that would be tragic looking at next years schedule that would be poor
