Mark Walton done for season

Canes junior running back Mark Walton will miss the remainder of the season with an ankle injury will require surgery on his right ankle.

Travis Homer has been more than reliable in his backup role this season. Trayone Gray will likely see more snaps, and freshman Deejay Dallas could also get worked more into the mix.

Many within the Miami program have suggested that this was going to be Walton’s last season at UM with the expectation being he would turn pro.

We will be fine. Blocking is a concern, I'll give you that, but as far as his running ability--and i'm sure I will get negged for saying this--Mark Walton is OVERRATED. Against strong competition, he's consistently a non-factor. See his game log below if you don't believe me.

I wish him the best and will miss him. I love his attitude, athletic ability, and competitiveness. Really would've liked for him to break out against a top defense but it never happened. He's better off heading to the NFL where he will get drafted on day 2 and earn some money for his family. He won't be able to compete with Lingawd and Cam Davis coming off that injury. GO CANES!!

Homer has played great and will need to continue it

Hoping that Richt will use guys like Thomas, Herndon, etc a little more in creative ways

Also, nows the time for Choc to provide some solid depth.. 5-8 carries a game

Nope . Homer is almost an equal talent . Now if Homer got hurt maybe but we still good. This sucks for Walton and I hate injuries but crap like this happens.

He for sure is a better athlete and faster. Walton is a more complete back but homer has shown some flashes

We will see in due time but I don't think we miss a beat with homer imo

Without Walton we don't win that game. He had some key blocks.

But Homer and Burns and Gray need to be ready. Next man up!

special team tackle too. He doesnt tackle that kid, he turns the corner

Next man up... Travis Homer is a 1000 yard level talent. We can still win with him as our starter no doubt.

The biggest thing we will miss is Waltons pass blocking ability though.

Agree. People mocked me for saying that he shouldn't of played after Toledo. It was obvious he wasn't close to his normal self. I know nobody wants to talk bad about the staff but this is on them.

So Homer goes to #1 . Walton may have interest in returning next season. If he does, Lindgard adds to a great stable of running backs.

I love Walton but I love Homer just as much. He runs much harder and is faster than Walton. We just need to find back ups and feature more of our passing game. Rozier is perfect for this offense. We'll be just fine.

We need to be more creative with our WR's, just as LSU is doing. Several of their very effective plays against the gaturds came from putting receivers in motion and handing the ball to them in some form of end around. This would create less wear and tear on our RB's and really utilize the speed of Thomas and Harley. Seems like we always wait until half time to make Offensive adjustments.
