I want to sign the kid. Thankfully our coach doesn’t think like yall.

Tell you what, let’s fast forward, we give this kid an aggressive offer, we roll out the red carpet, we do literally every single thing we can do, and then go chill in Mario’s office and wait for the phone to ring to have buddy tell Mario he’s going elsewhere.

Wanna know what you won’t hear?

Well, we tried. We’ll get em next time. Win some, lose some.

LMAO. Straight up loser mentality. This is a results business. Not a try hard business.
Loser mentality my ***. You on some unrealistic sh@t bro. You don't know what's in the kids head **** he might not want to play here. Get that n your **** head man. Now that's business.

Not popular opinion but KB a liability in recruiting. I've said it a few times... dude is weird AF. He can coach his *** off but his recruiting game is weak sauce. This why I'm cool take Lopez, spafford and the NC kid.
I wasted a good victory dance when the lies started about him being replaced during spring. He gets the standard played for Miami safety blanket from cis, but KB been a weak link.

So only the kids that want to be at Miami that sign elsewhere are failures. Elite white knighting.

If that's the case then I don't think he makes it past this year especially considering he almost was out of here after last year

The goal is to sign an elite class at as many positions as we can, obviously Wr is included in that. It's not loser mentality to think you likely only have the capability to sign 1 top WR recruit though. It's a fail if we don't land ANY top WR, regardless who it is. Again, if we land Keys, saying they failed to land Russell would be a joke. Its simple as that. Yeah would it be nice to land all the 5star talent WRs? obviously. But thats not realistic, while also landing Cantwell, James Johnson, hopefully Lamar Brown, Derrek Cooper, etc. So instead of saying The staff either fails or succeeds at WR recruiting based exclusively on Calvin Russell, how about it's based on if they land an elite WR recruit or not...

I'd say its extremely doubtful LSU lands Keys, Russell, AND Jabari Mack. And they're currently viewed as the leader for Feaster. They aren't going to get all those guys. Which to me means A&M is probably going to win for Feaster. And then ultimately its probably going to be us and LSU splitting Keys/Russell.

Establishing whether or not the interest is legit is a part of the recruitment process. If you devote resources to a player and make them a priority and they sign elsewhere. The term that correctly reflects on that individual recruitment is failure. Stating reasons why is just a misdirection to make you feel better.
I mean if you’re saying you either win or lose. I DIG IT

Not saying I disagree but how is KB “weird AF”?

Colossal failure if he isn’t a Cane.

No excuses!

1. Mama went here and HOF
2. His position coach is classmate of his mama and are friends!
3. Goes to a feeder school
4. From Miami!
5. Can play basketball too
6. $$ ain’t a problem

Get it done!

You can always tell when someone doesn't understand the situation, as with this post.

As just one example, #2 is part of the problem.

I'm not going to say anything further, because those who know already know, and the know-nothings are going to continue to yap about irrelevant **** like "feeder school".

I hope that things end up going in Miami's favor, but this is more complicated than screaming out "No excuses!".

Thank you. Call a spade a spade and move on. This excuse **** is lunacy.

This is just complete bull****, and yet another example of why you are such a horrible Miami-hating porster.

Nobody is making an EXCUSE. That is a lie. Some people have the apparent lunacy to try to EXPLAIN why a UM legacy does not appear to be choosing UM. If you don't want information, if you don't want an explanation, go somewhere else to bloviate your hatred.

Explanation: a statement or account that makes something clear.

Excuse: a reason or explanation put forward to defend or justify a fault or offense.

There is a difference. Nobody is making any excuses, no matter how many times you repeat the word.

As for your bull**** on "ascertain someone's true interest and then don't recruit them if you aren't satisfied", that is pure Manny-style-recruiting. I nevre thought I'd see the day when cway313 advocates for Manny-style surrender on the recruiting trail. Mario doesn't do that. He will absolutely make the effort, because it doesn't cost anything. All you have to do is look at the list of 5-stars that we are not recruiting AT ALL to know who has no interest in Miami. As for guys that we are recruiting, they have interest or else they wouldn't take the visits or the phone calls. We have a lot of guys living in the past, yapping about recruits taking "free vacations" when these kids are now millionaires.

Not a single person says that losing Calvin Russell is excusable or "not a failure". What people are saying is that we can't do much more to address Russell's concerns than we already have. There is a difference, but I'm sure you won't acknowledge it.

It's also a straight-up loser mentality to not even try, the way that cway suggests. Manny-style recruiting. Let's NOT try hard because we can see inside this kid's head and we already know he will not pick us. ****, this is the basis for at least 40% of the recruiting posts on this board.

Zero excuses. If Russell goes elsewhere, it's a failure. But some people would actually like to know the REASON(S) for the failure. If for no other purpose than ONE of the reasons for (possible, since it hasn't happened yet) failure could/would/should lead to the replacement of a position coach. And not for the simplistic reasons ("we didn't sign Recruit X") but for other very valid reasons.

I wasted a good victory dance when the lies started about him being replaced during spring. He gets the standard played for Miami safety blanket from cis, but KB been a weak link.

The proof of how little you know is that you claim there were "lies started".

I don't know which is funnier. Your ignorance, or the way you pound on your chest when you say ignorant things.

We can end up with a top 5 class including the #1 recruit in the nation, but If we don’t get this kid we’ll still have fools saying Mario is a bum for not closing on him.

That's not what anyone with a brain is saying. As always, people are unable to see gray areas, or understand nuance.

I am saying if we don't sign the kid, it's a failure. FOR THIS INDIVIDUAL KID. Because of the circumstance. He's a legacy, he's local, he's an elite prospect, he plays at a major position of need and one of the most important positions on the field, and he's the exact type of kid we've missed on for 10+ years and that we brought Mario here to sign.

That's it. That's all anyone with a brain is saying. If you can't close on this kid, someone we are absolutely prioritizing, and going aggressively after, then it's a failure. IT. Not the whole class, not the trajectory of the program for the next 5 years. JUST THIS KID would be a failure if you allow him to go elsewhere. I don't give a **** about "we tried". Try harder. Win. Hold him hostage. I don't care....you either win or lose in this game. If this kid doesn't sign here, you lost.

Would the loss be softened by signing the #1 class in the country? Obviously. But if Calvin Russell signs with another school, it's a recruiting L because he's one of your highest priority recruits, and he went somewhere else. This really isn't even a genuine discussion.

I agree with your basic premise.

There is some strange stuff happening here. That is not an excuse. It's just unfortunate and not normal.

Then take the L and move on. Backfill with equivalent talent. Allocate resources to other areas to make a complete recruiting class. But saying it's not an L because of any reason is just disingenuous. He's a good player, we want him in the class, we're pushing for him in the class. Him not being in the class is an L.

If Mario is the recruiter many of us think he is, it won't crush us. Losing kids like Jeudy, Ridley etc etc etc etc etc killed us because those would have been program trajectory changing players here, and we didn't sign anyone else in that realm. If you're going to lose on Russell, whatever these "weird" reasons are, then you better get someone just as good in his place.
