The Canes landed a rising LB with three years of eligibility in NC State transfer Kamal Bonner. After becoming the starter midway through his redshirt freshman year, the 6'2.5, 215-pounder finished with 56 tackles, 7 TFLs and a sack.

The former member of the Wolfpack defense emerged as a bright spot for the program mid-season after an injury at his position, which elevated him into a position to contribute. Bonner made the most of that opportunity, finishing the season with 56 tackles and a sack. This included six tackles in each of the seven games he played, including 9 against Syracuse.

The former safety from Moultrie, GA is the second-ranked LB available in the Portal and has big fans in Miami's building. They expect him to be a multiyear contributor.

Why did this kid leave NC state? I hope he works out better than the last transfer we got from NC State. I trust our DC on his evaluations.

“Fans in the building” is not a complement right now. I must be cranky. This does nothing for me. The 3 years of eligibility just means another one of our young linebackers is not good enough to play here and will likely leave while we do not upgrade the position. Our roster management and portal usage is something else.

Very nice pickup considering we desperately need backers and there are so few good ones available. This kids upside is nice.

I haven’t watched the film yet, but it seems like he produced the moment he got on the field and NC State didn’t want to lose him.

Size is always a question with converted safeties but he was 215 when he visited here.
