"By your logic I could claim that this rock keeps tigers away."

This proves nothing other than he was hired by Miami. I like how you throw in the Ice was never pushing players away from Miami.

It's a significant leap to think this hire necessarily proves Ice wasn't pushing players away from Miami. In fact, it'd be easier to argue that this move was made because he was leveraging his position against Miami's interests. In either case, the point is this just proves Ice "had" something (influence, etc.) that Miami wanted to secure.

It could be "easier to argue" this if that's the only arguement you're open to interpret.

It could also be "esier to argue" that there really was no rift between the two other than media board hype.

See how that goes?

Yeah, I see how that goes. That's exactly the **** point. The argument can be made both ways. This "proves" Ice had something Miami wanted to secure.

I started typing this before your edit of "In either case, the point is this just proves Ice "had" something (influence, etc.) that Miami wanted to secure." ... I can agree with that. But your point was what you wrote unless Im misinterpreting it "In fact, it'd be easier to argue that this move was made because he was leveraging his position against Miami's interests." .. I could be misinterpreting that wrong as I said but it sounds like you're saying this was a move by Golden to keep a snake on a leash

I think someone already hit it earlier. I hadn't seen the post. I'm not saying this move was done by Golden to keep a snake on a leash. I'm saying I could make that argument just as strongly (if not stronger) as Pete's making the "this proves he never…"

It's a business move. That's all it really proves. Let's all hope it works out.

Touche'

But besides Thomas and Kirkland.. who else did he "push away" ... Most dudes are hanging their arguements on M Thomas who was never coming.. the year following we sign the best DE in the state, arguable a top 5 DE in the other, we almost snagged the Qb in the end (which we mishandled) and a legend of a CB ...

If it is ONE player, if there was just ONE SINGLE PLAYER it is ONE TOO MANY. Again, I don't want to argue this stuff because it doesn't matter. Now that Ice is on the staff, he can now use his influence for the good of the program.

It seems like this is something to be excited about, but I can't shake the fact that we didn't seem to notice any huge bump from this the first go-round, and in fact weren't there rumors of other Dade/Broward coaches getting their feelings hurt and/or being jealous that they didn't get a cushy gig also?

Regardless, it SEEMS like it should be a good move.

I'll blame that on the fact that randy was the HC... this should be good, even if it's just for community relations.

This proves that the next recruiting class has so much talent in it that all bets are off and it will be total war with no prisoners. Next Al needs to bring in some X and O coaches to help out all the recruiters on the staff. Ice should provide the extra recruiting edge to allow that. We need better coaching on the practice field.

Let's hope he learned something from the last time he was here. He certainly can coach young men! Welcome back!!!

by all accounts, randy Shannon should have cleaned up recruiting in dade and broward. he was a black head coach at a big time school. from the projects, played hs and college ball in the city of Miami. who better to relate to most of these kids and what black family wouldn't send their kid to UM to ensure one of their own (a black man) succeed at the highest level? what local black hs football coach wouldn't send their kids to UM, opening the door for more black coaches to get a shot in a world dominated by white head coaches at the college level?
it didn't play out that way and how much of that was Shannon and was there any jealousy at the hs level?
I love the move and think it will pay dividends but I also see the politics and petty bs down here and can see some other black hs coaches being jealous and not wanting to see ice succeed.
who knows.

See Barrow, Michael. Plus, add a legit NFL career to that credibility. I like the hire today irrespective of Icee's previous public blatherings and it's going to pay dividends but no individual in South Florida is a key to all these kids. Wayyyy too much pettiness and politicking by some of these diva corches and handlers. All Al can do is continue to stack the odds in our favor- which this move does.

I'm tryna figure out why you're so pressed to prove that statement by Pete was wrong..who tf cares!? It was almost 3 rec cycles ago..he apart of the U family /staff again now so if he's negatively recruiting against his employer than now we have a problem other than that you have to be content-happy with the hire. You picked ONE line of a well-written post to create a 10 page long argue meant thread..haven't read thru the whole thread but I'd be surprised if it doesn't turn into a "will Ice coach the defense" thread the way it's trending now..

I think GoldIce will be a more effective combo than ShanIce.

He can't evalute and or recruit per UM. So I don't see a big deal. Maybe he can take over for PW

First James Coley, then Hurlie, now Ice.

The first two worked great so far. Hope for more of the same with Ice. Welcome back.

This move wasn't made without thought. I'm sure Golden has something in mind that would be advantageous to the program through Ice's community ties.

Ice's resume' as a coach is more impressive than that of any coach on our staff..

Business move...nothing more, nothing less...
