LSU made a splash hire when it brought on former South Carolina assistant Sterling Lucas, who is known as one of the best recruiters on the East Coast. Lucas, a South Carolina native, bonded well with Bryant and earned his pledge even though he had never visited LSU.

“The reason we chose LSU the first time was because of Sterling Lucas,” said Bryant’s father, Jesse. “But beside that, I didn’t feel like LSU really showed us love and appreciation. Coach Lucas did. He always reached out. LSU gave us an offer, but they didn’t recruit us. We were there because of Coach Lucas. After a while, it just didn’t start to feel right.”

Miami never gave up on Jaiden.

The Hurricanes were all in on flipping the No. 4 EDGE and No. 24 overall recruit nationally and made the Bryant family feel like a priority.

“Every time we went down there, they knew us by name and made us feel comfortable,” Jesse said. “It was like ‘hey, Jesse.’ They just showed us that they wanted us. That’s pretty much it. You can’t let a five-star defensive end sit and not show him that you want him. Miami truly showed us that they wanted him. They laid out a plan for him when he gets there. It fit what he wanted.”
