Fall Camp Intel: Offense

the fact that the Oline may still have issues creating a good, consistent push in the run game is troublesome. Simply put, too many drives died as UM failed to move the chains on 3rd and short , blame Rosier all you want for certain offensive struggles, but this is on the guys upfront.

And for Miami to really have a big season or take the next step, this unit to me is the most important on the team given that Clemson will stand in the way and they literally have an NFL d-line returning

But overall, this is the best roster Miami has had since the 04-05 teams(which will declining under Coker, still had a lot of NFL talent all over)

Let the games begin

K9 offensively this team on paper has way more talent than those teams.....

Defensively it isnt 03ish but depending on Willis' play could be ELITE.

On paper on offense it isnt as top heavy (yet) as the early Miami teams but I would argue we havent had this depth at WR ever.

Running back and TE are somewhat up in the air however that three headed monster discussed by the players has me thinking we should be scoring close to 30ish a game.

5 days! LSU will tell us all we need to know about both lines.

This is the biggest road game/neutral site we have a chance to win since the Peach Bowl vs UF which is the last time we managed a W.

God we are overdue.....

Diaz noted in an interview that we are running a lot better this year than lat season. I am hoping our run blocking is a bit better than what Stefan described.

Why is it news that Lingard is a stiff upright runner? That was evident on his film. Darren McFadden and DeMarco Murray were stiff upright runners too. Murray redshirted at Oklahoma for comparison.

No reason to panic on Lingard unless your expectations were unreasonable. Actually it sounds like all the freshmen are on track for what I expected if not more.

yup. There's also ballas ahead of them. Folks need to remember that if Lingard and Cam don't contribute this year it's a good thing. Give them time to develop and improve.

Is there any thoughts on moving Njoku to TE like his brother? I just see 6'6" and his speed as a very big advantage
against LBs like his brother was, or am I way off in my thought process?

I remember when some of us were "pretty disappointed thus far" in Willis McGahee, too.

Give it some time.

This would be a good post, except Willis blew his knee out his senior year at Central and nobody expected a **** thing out of him early his career.

I'll be patient, but this lines up so far with what I saw on film from him last year, and that wasn't a 5-star back. Praying like **** he proves me and a any other skeptical observer wrong and blows up here. But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't at least somewhat concerned that he's been here since January and is so far from the field he can't even see it.

When you have 2 established players at running back it goes like that. Coach richt/ Brown has mentioned him in recent interviews the last 2 weeks. Got to remember lingard didn’t play in a traditional offense it’s going to take an adjustment. It’s way to early write the kid off or be that concerned Imo. Coach richt just mentioned him yesterday on his radio interview as a freshman stepping up too along with Rousseau, Silvera, receivers, obviously the tight ends.

The last thing I'm doing is writing him off. I'm just concerned that very few true 5-star talents get buried on depth charts like this. Maybe he rapidly improves. Or maybe the 4 kids ahead of him are insanely fantastic talents. We'll see.

That OL news is disheartening. I just don't think our coaching at that position is good enough.

Running on 3rd down and just 3rd down execution needs to improve in general. If you actually look through the numbers and or go back and watch the games yes while Miami struggled running the ball vs clemson, pitt and unc they had some really performances against almost all of the rest of the teams we played which you wouldn’t know given how some talk about the oline. **** in the bowl game Miami outrushed Wisconsin and averaged over 6.0 ypc against the #2 defense in the country.

Miami was terrible a year ago on 3rd down in both passing and running the ball however in most of the games we didn’t struggle to rush the ball. 3rd down play will take our offense to another level if we improve period. This article listed below goes in more detail.

“In 2017, even after losing Mark Walton early on, the Hurricanes ranked 22nd in rushing S&P+ and gained at least five yards 43.5% of the time (13th), with a 43.4% success rate (56th) and 1.11 IsoPPP (9th). The run blocking played a big role in that ability to maintain success in the face of adversity, with an adjusted line yard ranking of 27th, creating 3.05 line yards per standard down carry (44th), and 3.69 per carry on passing downs (27th). Three starters return from that group, led by 2017 All-ACC guard Navaughn Donaldson, with a combined 47 career starts between them.”

He gave the edge to LSU's defense over Miami's offense. That is nonsense because LSU lost a lot on defense. Miami's offense is much deeper than last year and essentially we have to replace Herndon and McDermott. Darling is replaceable. St. Louis looks like a better than adequate replacement for McDermott and more athletic. Donaldson is settling in a right tackle. We need improved play from Rosier. Seems to be vastly improved from this same point last year and he is healthy. We have a healthy Richards, Cager and a much bigger Thomas. Love Berrios and what he brought to the table, but we are big, rangy and huge more explosiveness this year. Richards is ready to reinsert himself and Cager looks like he is fully recovered in his money year. We are a real problem for any team trying to match our skilled positions. Defensively we will be better, bigger and experienced. They have a huge question mark at running back and an unknown at quarterback. They have question marks at wide receiver.

This write up doesn't give me confidence. We still have depth issues. A couple of injuries, and this team is thin. Lose Jordan or Homer and we are screwed. OL injuries happen and we simply can't afford one. That's not a championship team.

Disagree, Outside of oline and maybe dt What position? And the same can be said for most teams in America not including bama. But **** even bama has depth issues with saban complaining about it last week. This is the best depth and most talented team Miami has had since the 2004 team for sure

Our WRs vs their Secondary is going to be the most intriguing matchup by far. That might decide the game.

I think their secondary negates our receivers. It will be the running game (especially Rosiers QB draws) and the TE's in space that make the difference. I'm worried about our OLs ability to get a push against LSU.
