The Burns train is leaving the station.

As its conductor ya'll welcome to hop on board for around 20 more days.
If he's healthy he might be the biggest surprise on the entire team. Talent was never an issue with him. Size, speed, vision, he has it all.

Thanks. If not reported on by Richt (he expressly said no real injuries from the scrimmage), then I'm gonna assume (and hope) it's minor. Need D Jax this year. And even more so, he deserves to have the success he will this year

Yeah, I’m behind . When I get off from work I start reading over stuff and catching up.

It caught me off guard when I saw that , so
I wanted to see what was up. He’s one of the guys we couldn’t afford to lose.

I don't believe in redshirting backs unless they are hurt.

We redshirted Lamar Miller and he left after three years anyway. Get your money's worth.

Not even backs. Basically any position, except maybe on the lines. If the players are PLAYERS, they're not going to be here for 5 years and probably not even for 4. What's the point of redshirting? David Njoku redshirted as a freshman (yes, I know Goldeinstein was trying to make him a LB) and left after his redshirt sophomore year. If Lingard is 80% the player we all expect him to be, he's not going to be here for 5 years.

Also, when's the last time a 5th year senior really impacted the Miami program outside of a lineman? I can't think of a single one. Malik Rosier this year, although he has no NFL future. If they can play, play 'em, cause they're not gonna be around long anyway.

No need to overreact on Lingard

Choc & Burns are just getting their fare shot in camp to show what they can do. It's hard to get a good look at all 6 RB's in practice. This was probably planned and not performance based. The bigger takeway is Davis is more likely to RS or just play ST.

I fully expect Lingard to be #3 during the season, but wouldn't be surprised to see Choc as the #3 RB in games like Savannah St. (as a nod to a hard working Senior).

It could be he’s better at this moment, I mean he’s a grown man , that’s been around the system for a going on three years.

Based on Lo's running style on his HS film, it's going to take a while before he get acclimated to CFB.
While the HS coaches did a good coaching job for him to just smack a hole and outrun everyone, they did him a disservice by not working on patience or vision, which Coach Brown has mentioned a bunch of times. Furthermore, he also wasn't taught pass pro, which again, mentioned several times by Coach Brown take s while, said the same thing was hindering Homer last year.
Also, hasn't run out of gun much. Those things take time.
Being a former high level TB going from a Point of Attack scheme to Gun Zone scheme it changes things drastically. He's got the skill set, just needs a bit of time to figure it all out and once he does he'll fly. Game 1 put the guys you trust and won't get QB1 killed.

This is typical unless you're a team desperate for a stud RB with nothing in front of him. the 'Canes can play it relatively safe and Homer and Dallas can carry it without putting anything at risk, including other players or trim down their playbook with certain players on the field.

I was thinking that would be the issue. Choc is probably showing much better technique and intensity when it comes to picking up blitzes.
Yeah he’s going to be fine, let him continue to learn the nuisances of the position

That has been a huge point of emphasis for any position on offense. If you can't block and more importantly show the willingness to block your reps will decline.

Pass protection is young guys biggest issue when going to the next level . College or pro.

Lingard's problems at RB are the usual problems for high school hotshots who had it easy: poor pass protecting abilities. He will learn with time and discipline. Defend your QB or you won't play.

I’m just glad we have the depth where we don’t necessarily need him to get starter minutes right away and he could come along slowly this season

The thing that will be interesting to keep an eye on is how Lo improves between now and Sept. 2nd.
We have heard some good things about him, not only about his obvious talent and blazing speed but also how he is working hard to become better.
I imagine he is probably talking to the vets in front of him and taking notes and learning from them along with coach Brown.

Still a lot of practices and one more scrimmage to prove if he can play game one.

I hope it is because he's playing well. I'm rooting for Choc.

But when Walton got hurt last year, Choc became the #2 RB. - and only got 3 carries the rest of the year. All the carries basically went to Homer until Dallas got up to speed at RB. So it's hard for me to see Choc making that leap.

At 6'2" 240, and given we're thin at TE, I'd like to see them use Choc in more of an H-Back type role. Or at least try it practice.

Did Rayshawn Jenkins make enough of an impact for you in 2016?

Sure did. He redshirted what would have been his junior season due to back surgery. Not his freshman year.

I'm talking about this whole premise where people on this site are enamored with redshirting incoming freshmen. Jenks played a lot his freshman year, because he was a good player. Show me the examples of kids who redshirted as freshmen HERE and then contributed as 5th year players. I'm sure there's a few, but the list is not very long.

True but we also have guys like DJ and Pope who can fly and make moves. Guess it comes down to who has the vision. I think though, with DJ likely to be the starting RB next year, it may be wise to save Lo.

Yeah I know and I agree anything can happen in the next 2 weeks. I admitted it was only the first change...but that was my take on it. Especially when they moved a FB back into RB. Really wondering why they did that and what the motivation/play is on that angle.
What makes you think Homer can't hold off DJ next season or maybe you're suggesting he's going pro(not likely). Homer is the clear cut RB1, but he will share the backfield and carries more this season. He will get his 1k yards but the others may combine for another 1200. He will always be on the field in crucial situations but CMR/Brown trust the other guys and will give them reps throughout the season.

I am not as high on Lingard as many of you are. He doesn't "wow" me....at least not yet.

That solves it if you cant block you wont play. we cant take our QBs getting murdered due to a freshman not being able to figure it out yet. Lo will be fine give him time he will learn it.
