Redshirt is a detriment to recruiting. If you Redshirt in 2017 u discourage potential recruits in 2018... Medical RS is different...

Not necessarily true. Fsu redshirted 2 high ranked D-lineman last year in cedric wood and janarius robinson. They turned around and got 2 5 star players at the same position this past class in kaindoh and wilson.

Ohio st. got one of the best d-lines in the country and they are deep. Their entire starting d-line was all redshirted and they have more guys who will redshirt this year likely and still is on track to sign maybe the best d-line class this cycle.

I'll take that... valid points ... Considering a RedShirt was Taboo for Shaq... He wanted to be on the field

in the trenches on the lines a redshirt for the most part is warranted.

Jon Ford imo would benefit from a shirt. I dont see the point unless he cracks the 2 deep at dt. If were keeping Fines...he might as well eat those 25-40 snaps Ford would have gotten the whole season anyway. I redshirted my freshman year..but made every trip and dressed out to the games like a regular traveling player.

He is in too late... shirt him and sign two jucos..

it aint to late man...

the season starts week 3, he got a month to get right

There is really no point of redshirting these days. The good players will leave before their senior season anyways. The rest will either transfer out or they're very average players that can easily be replaced.

Idk I'd sure like to have 2 more years of Chris Herndon

I'm generally against redshirting if a player will contribute on offense/defense, but several good payers have stayed for 4 seasons.

Allen Hurns, Sean Spence, Leonard Hankerson, Allen Bailey, Stacy Coley, Sam Shields, Colin McCarthy, Denzel Perryman to name a few

Colin was the only one who stayed five seasons though and that was because of medical redshirt. I'd like to see how many fifth yr seniors have made impacts over the years.

This was in response to "if he's any good he'll be gone in three years anyway." It doesn't always apply.

Realistic redshirt candidates:

Weldon
Burns
Njoku
Polendey
Dykstra
Hillery
Ford
Steed

who disagrees?

Of course there's exceptions. But I'm talking generally about uselessness of red shirting. You red shirt essentially to hope to get 5 years out of the player. But for the most part if the player is good they will leave their RS soph or RS Jr year. They won't stay till they are a RS senior barring injury. Take Herndon for example, he's a RS Jr but most likely he's gonna leave after this year. So that red shirt he took really didn't matter. Instead of leaving as a senior he's gonna leave as a RS JR.

The final member of Miami's 2017 signing class is set to officially arrive on campus this weekend.

Defensive tackle Jon Ford, a local product from Dillard High School and Miami's lone signeee at the position, told CanesinSight that he's been given clearance to enroll this Sunday.

Miami remained optimistic over the last month that Ford would qualify. Yesterday, defensive coordinator Manny Diaz equated Ford to "a present under the tree that you forget about."

Ford would be able to practice beginning Monday, but is not allowed to wear pads until his 5th day of practice due to NCAA rules.

Did he enroll today ?

Herndon is a SR he did not redshirt. And if he were a R-Jr anyway I think he'd be a candidate to stay
