D$'s Top 25 Prospects in Dade/Broward- #5-1

Over the past two years, I’ve been lucky enough to see Dade and Broward’s best compete on the gridiron, at camps and at 7-on-7s. The list below is my personal opinion, and I don’t speak for Peter, Tito, Cam or Nash. All forty times are verified by SPARQ. NOTE: I did not include Travonte Valentine as a Dade/Broward prospect because he hasn't played a real game down here yet. If you include him in the mix, he is likely a Top 10 prospect.

5. Jordan Scarlett, RB, University School- (5’11, 200)- Arguably the top back in the nation for 2015. Even though he is built like a young Trent Richardson, his gliding running style reminds me of Darren McFadden. Possesses legitimate breakaway speed to go along with his power. Ran for 1,351 yards and 22 TDs as a sophomore.

4. Ermon Lane, WR, Homestead (6’2, 196 lbs, 4.52)- Elite vertical receiver with downfield speed and the ability to grab the ball at its highest point. Lane is a 48-minute player who gets snaps at WR, CB, H-back and returner for the Broncos. Luther Campbell and the dominant Northwestern defense paid Lane the ultimate respect last year, as you can see below (by the way, he caught a 20-yard fade right after I took this picture):

3. Shawn Burgess-Becker, WR/S, Monarch (6'2, 190)- A natural. Played mostly safety in 2012 before exploding as a wide receiver during the off-season circuit. Everything about his game looks easy: his route-running, the way he uses his body to keep defenders away, his ability to snatch the football. Should emerge as a five-star prospect in the class of 2015.

2. Sony Michel, RB, American Heritage (5’11, 210)- Two years removed from a torn ACL, Michel is poised to take back the number one spot. One of the most mentally and physically mature players in the nation. When he goes to high school camps it looks like he’s participating in the NFL Combine. Ran a 10.73 100M after his knee injury, and is close to regaining the pre-injury cutting ability that made him the best prospect in Florida.

1. Dalvin Cook, RB, Central (5’11, 196 lbs., 4.46)- Youth football superstar who has emerged as the biggest playmaker in the state. Played his signature game in the state semifinal at Naples, where he turned 10 offensive touches into 233 yards and 4 TDs. Also plays cornerback full-time for the Rockets.

idk, lane's film doesn't blow me away at all but you see stuff like this and it makes you wonder. everyone gushes about the guy but is he more talented than a coley for example? i don't see it.

I have felt the same way recently. I liken it to Aldarius Johnson, guy who had buzz since sophmore year, but could be getting by on smaller dade county kids and in college that advantage could be limited. 6'2 while in high school is really big but against college players is limited unless you can create separation. He is more smooth than anything but not really a burner and not really elusive. Still can be effective in right offense tho

Or I could be just creating this all in my mind to justify losing out on one of the top WR in dade county in any number of years... Lol.

I'm kinda over Lane...I think he's good, but not as good as everyone makes him out to be. I think Dixon is the top guy on our boad. I think Coley >>>>>> than Lane. Coley's game will translate better. I certainly hope so, because it looks like Lane is gone.

I still want Lane, but agree Dixon will likely help us forget this dude.

I agree with this, I can live with it as long as we get our share of elite kids. But even looking at this list we CANNOT miss out on Cook and Sony and have missed on Collins the year before and only sign Yearby. What other elite backs are we targeting if we miss on all these kids? Duke wont be here forever, find me another back to pair with Yearby to forget about cook/collins/Sony. Missing out on elite guys like this just make it that much harder.

As a football player, JJ is Top 10 . He'll probably be much higher on this list by the end of the season, I just want to see more physical development from him. The two 2015 kids ranked above him are further along from that standpoint.

Agree with you, I think some people have a hard time separating how good someone plays in high school from how good a college prospect they are

I respect your assessment guys and not trying to dispute or ague by no means,but when was the last time in DADE county- highest div classification - where we witness a young football player earn "ALL DADE" as a fr and soph? Just saying .,,, this speaks volume amigos.. Again, Johnson might not be 6'2-210 YTD, but i can ensure you that **** is a true football player and only getting better.

And I agree. Gurshall (worst nickname ever) has chemistry and flow at this point. Their OC seems to have a feel on who and when to use at different spots. Michel is going to have to take advantage of literally every opportunity he is given to TRY to steal carries for at least 2 years. Like Georgia all you want, "business" wise, I think it was a bad decision

Tend to agree with that as well, but don't we applaud kids who come here even if we have a stacked depth chart? He probably believes he's better than Gurley, Marshall and the other 5* they're bringing in. We got screwed because they took his brother.

They didn't take his brother. Marken Michel is still enrolled at UMASS.

No he's not. Marken's belongings are boxed up in umass. Where did I get this from. A current umass player. I asked him about the "Georgia" deal with marken and Sony. He said he never heard if it. He did say marken was the strongest and most intimidating receiver they had. Take it for what it's worth.

Well that's fine, but the transfer deadline for this year is early August (if it hasn't already passed), so we'll find out soon enough.

D$ money is trying to be the smartest guy in the room as it regards to Yearby and Valentine. You have to regard Valentine as a South Florida recruit. It's absurd and a cop out to not have him. Me thinks he's only doing it bc it makes it easier to have someone else in the top ten. And White over Yearby? That is just plain ridiculous. Especially when he claims this list is projecting them as college prospects. Why the **** is Sean White a better prospect than Yearby? bs. This is only an inferiority complex at it's worst and trying too hard to be the "smart guy."

For his position Valentine is more dominant than any player listed. Butch Davis was great at identifying "Studs" some highly rated many not. The key is to dominate recruiting in your area, get as many of the "can't miss" types and then identify those less regarded types that can be developed into Studs. There are too many highly talented skill position players in SoFL so many will have to leave. We just gotta make sure we get the better OL and DL in SoFL. And don't forget....the games are won in the trenches, so I get excited about DL and OL because the talent behind them becomes less impactful when those units can't get it done.

Break it down for us, then. He makes his list and provides some rationale for it and you clearly disagree, which is 100% fine. No problem. Why don't you give your opinion as to why one isn't a top ten guy and the other isn't. It lends for better discussion
