Personally, I think this year is when Coley has to show his value.
He's had a QB with all the tools in his back pocket, being Kevin Olsen to bring him along in his system and the specific things he wants him to do.
We all know he can recruit, 'cause that's what he does. But this is a season where he can make big money. I don't care what you guys say about Olsen's attitude or whatever, the kid has tools and talent is just a matter of harnessing it. With that being said, If I'm getting paid Coley's cahs and have aspirations of making more or being an HC I'm telling Olsen to come hang out in his office, his house, more or less forcing myself into his life, even when Ryan Williams was around, because he is the next man up.
When your an OC your QB has to be on the same page as you, so make it happen and get it done. Coley let's see what you got. We gave you a pass on Morris' 'cause he wasn't your guy and he had an ankle problem, now we, well I know I'm not giving him a pass this year. This isn't on Golden or anyone else, it's on him.
If Coley fails then it's on Golden to realize he hired the wrong guy and he should have figured that out a while ago, 'cause there were boys on this board saying they were big time suspect of Coley as an OC, but Golden did it, let's see how good he is at evaluating coaches. So far we only got D'Onofrio to go from and we all have opinions on that.

I've said for a long time that we don't need a guy with an inaccurate cannon pulling the trigger on this offense. We simply need a guy who can be cool in the pocket, and distribute the football to our skill guys...putting the ball in their hands in the best position to make a big play. I was hoping that would be Williams while Olsen continued to develop, but that isn't an option anymore.

I don't care who the QB ends up being, he just doesn't need to try to be Superman. We can win 10 games with a game manager this year (as long as Stacy Coley and Duke Johnson remain healthy). It was fun to watch Morris throw the ball 60 yards downfield while guys like Waters/Coley/Dorsett/Hurns ran under them, but for us to be an efficient offense--we just need to move the sticks with the short/intermediate passing game, run the ball consistently, and take our homerun shots when they're there. This keeps our offense (our strongest unit) on the field longer, and keeps our defense (our sh1ttiest unit) off the field as much as possible. If #SimpleDale can somehow figure out a way to improve our 3rd down % and TOP, we'll be **** tough to beat.

And for the love of based god, run the ball downhill. Forget this stretch zone play that never works for us. That was one of my biggest knocks on #SimpleDale and his playcalling this past year. He fell in love with that stretch zone play, and we continued to get no more than 2 yards/carry on that play, it seemed like.
 
Lol only at Miami we give up on a player that hasn't even played a down of D1 football lol it's crazy

Two of the last relatively successful true frosh QBs in recent memory have been Aaron Murray and Matt Barkley their numbers:

I think Kaaya is coming into a similiar situation as both players, i.e. supporting cast.

My question:

1. Does Kaaya have the skillset or pedigree that either Barkley or Murray had to be successful as a true Frosh?
 
Ground and pound with the backfield and the OL, hit some home runs here and there. Dominate time of possession.

It's a simple formula to win with the personel we have this season, let Olsen not carry the burden of trying to win games for us, just make sure he doesn't lose them.

It IS Coleys burden. Coley was here last year, but it was his FIRST. He brought in TWO QBs. He was easily our best recruiter. What else did you want the guy to do? I mean you would have a legit issue if the guy did NOT bring in any QBs knowing what was on the roster, but he did, he brought in TWO, one of them a highly rated blue chipper. You cant blame anything Coley has done since he has been here in terms of roster management. He's done all he could with what he has had to work with. Now, you can b*tch about play calling, etc... but not the QB situation. He inherited what he inherited and he definitely upgraded it in his first year.

I also hope we get away from the zone running plays as well even though that seems to be what Duke favors. We need to let the OL put a hat on a hat and move defenses off the ball. Enough of this finesse BS.
 
What QB has Coley developed? Sure wasnt at fsu. But then again we will really see if he can develop this young talent on roster. Thos was coleys first year calling plays for a major program. Growing pains is to be expected

Jameis Winston, Jacob Coker, Clintt Trickett all came and went during Coley's tenure at FSU. Not a bad resume.

Seems like we are either trying to shield Coley from the Golden D'Onofrio hate by using the same reasons/excuses used for Golden/D'Onofrio (burdened by someone else's inability to provide quality talent) or we are asking Golden to do the exact same thing we hate him for with D'Onofrio, which is to extend unproven incompetence.
 
Where's all the negativity coming on Olsen. I agree he had a crappy Spring "game". But even before Williams was hurt, all the reports were that Olsen had taken major steps. In the practice highlights, Olsen had some great throws. He started Spring getting only about 20% of the reps with the 1s, and my understanding is he was up to 40% of the reps by the time Williams went down. Doesn't seem consistent with the doubts being raised.

Regardless, Coley needs to develop Olsen. Fisch did wonders with both Harris and Morris. Why wouldn't we expect Coley to be capable of getting Olsen on track? He certainly has enough talent to work with.
 
I think Kaaya is up to the challenge if Olsen stumbles. Rozier is an interesting option as well. My hope actually is that they let whoever our QB turns out to be to use every bit of the playbook that he knows. We're not going to win a MNC this season, so our signal caller might as well go through the growing pains of being a first year QB. I really don't want to see us throwing a ton of hitch routes, check downs, or bubble screens all season in the name of protecting our QB.

It is tough to have confidence if your coaches don't show they have confidence in you to throw the ball all over the field and also to truly run the offense. Do with with our QB what Indy did with Andrew Luck his rookie season and take the INTs as part of the growing pains of starting a young QB, but also letting him be aggressive and learn what he can and cannot do.

Just to be clear, my prediction isn't based on my personal evaluation of Kevin Olsen as a player.

Honestly, I haven't seen enough to give an honest appraisal. He looked good when I saw him at one of the closed scrimmages, and he looked bad in the spring game. Although I liked Kaaya the best based on HS film, neither he nor Rosier have ever faced a college defense.

This prediction is based on both public information and various bits and pieces I've picked up. It's a long time until Louisville. Neither Olsen, Kaaya or Rosier have any game experience, so I expect the staff to choose the most promising player (mentally and physically) and let him take his lumps.

With Duke, the receivers and the offensive line, it's a good opportunity to bring the quarterback of the future (whoever it is) along slowly and safely. This is also an opportunity for Coley to show who he is as an OC, even if the results aren't immediate.

Though I don't agree with his play-calling at times, I have to give him the benefit of the doubt until we see Kaaya/Rosier. You have to give an OC a chance to hand pick his qb & groom him to fit his scheme. If this year's qb recruits don't pan out then that will be a direct reflection on Coley

If Coley is ambitious as everyone thinks he is, this could be the make or break of his coaching future.

I agree its too early to write him off but struggling to complete a pass in the spring game isn't the only knock on Olsen. there were plenty of rumors about being suspended, poor worth ethic, and marijuana use. that's not exactly the traits you want for your starting QB.
 
D'onofrio has a track record of success with Golden which Coley does not. So I can see where he would have more patience with D'onofrio given the crap he inherited.
Coley on the other hand has almost a full cupboard of talent to work with.
A offensive genius coach like Malzhan would kill to have Miami's offensive roster.
However the same can't be said for a defensive genius coach like Saban killing to have Miami's defensive roster prior to this season.

If Coley is a stud OC in the making then he will find a way to make it work and field a top 10 offense.
D'onofrio does as well.

My problem with this line of thought is that Fisch parlayed his coaching and playcalling ability without having "his own players" into a short stint at Miami and then an NFL OC gig. He didn't need to have success with another QB...he had success with Harris and Morris both. Granted...he had an "in" with Gus Bradley from his time at UFayg, but still...had he not had success with someone else's QBs at Miami, Bradley wouldn't have made him OC.

Coley's got to pick it up sometime here soon. It doesn't matter if it's his own players or not, it matters how he uses them.
