We wanted you leave for christ sakes!
Speak for yourself.. I want golden to continue to build his program.. Year 5 is when I'll decide if I wanna start moving furniture.
you guys are trippin!!! Golden should come back this year…Lets give the man a chance to work a full season without any sanctions or anything hanging over the program. Then if we still suck and barely beat sucky teams and get slaughtered by decent teams…then, its legit to want him out. But as it stands we were just considered the ****tiest program in college football and this man led us out of that to semi-respectability. Give him a chance to coach his uys up. And Dino isn't going anywhere unless he does the admirable thing and step down. If he were a good friend he would do that and not allow his friend to be fired because of him…smh fat chance! But lets chill and let this class get in, and lets see how this plays out.
And what was that i was hearing about Mario Cristobal as our new coach if Golden left…really???? Not good enough to lead FIU but good enough to lead UM??? c'mon man!!!
So I guess we need to wait until what, 2017? Because we'll be down a 3 scholarships per year for the next 3 years. And you know Mr. Excuse Maker will be sure to remind everyone of that massive cloud hanging over him.
I don't think we're gonna be gangbusters on the field for a while. But there is no excuse for the 2015 class. He will be recruiting on an even playing field for the first time ever at Miami. It's a huge litmus test IMO.

So you're content with 2 more years of mediocrity? You're a 1 percenter.
So he was offered, took the deal and then turned into a soft shouldered ***** and declined. Great loyalty on his part.TJLS on ESPN 1120 @JoeLodanosky1h

If we don't win and show progress next year......recruiting will hurt. If we win, then Golden will be fine in the recruiting game. If we field a **** product though, I don't care what kind of a recruiter you are, eventually it catches up with you.

Umm if a deal is done you don't have any more interviews.. kinda how it works. More likely no offer was made, and Al could not wait any longer for them to finish their interviews because the the storm brewing down here.

It's not abnormal for schools to do more "courtesy" interviews that are already setup when there's an agreement. Anyone could easily decide to change his mind, so you don't sit back and take that chance. So, the situation could have easily happened.
Stop finding reasons to twist this stuff to make Al look all "Golden." Everyone with a brain realizes he wanted to go.

If a deal is agreed upon, you put the pen to the paper and there is no backing out and no additional interviews. BTW, if the scenario I described is how it really went down, that certainly doesn't make Al look any better. It means Penn State wasn't even sure about him. I think it's clear Al wanted the job, but when it wasn't a slam dunk for him to get the job after 2-3 days he decided to withdraw from consideration.
As I said, Munchak getting fired ****ed us real bad.
Golden is a fraud and PSU was our only hope.
When it happened, Medley posted that it felt like the Titans were doing him (or someone) a favor by firing him. After seeing Chris Mortensen's report on this, I totally agree. The timing was too suspect and Munchak's performance in Tennessee wasn't really fireable.
I don't follow the NFL much, but I did read that Munchak was told by his GM that he could keep his job if he fired folks from his staff.
At that point, he probably saw the writing was on the wall and he it was only a matter of time before he would get fired as well, be it next
season,whatever.
At that point, someone from PSU probably reached out to him which, I suspect, led to Munchak asking Tennessee to fire him.
Tennessee gets to look for their new HC and possibly not have to pay Munchak if/when he gets the PSU gig, and Munchak gets to return
home and gets at least 4-5 years of relatively little pressure (of getting canned).
ALso, Munchak played in (no-pun intended) Penn State's Golden era.
He won a national championship in 1982.
He was teammates with Matt Millen, Todd Blackledge and other former players who remain involved with the program,
and who follow college football....I'm guessing those guys like Al Golden the person, but probably realize he is not a good
coach for their alma-mater.
In summary, the timing of that firing was not coincidental at all.
Easy to connect the dots here, IMO.
Munchak actually reached out to Penn State when O'Brien was looking to leave.....along with Schiano and Franklin, although Schiano denied it b/c he still had a job with Tampa at the time.

It's funny reading many of you write about how he tried to slither away in the night and that PSU said thanks but not thanks......you have no clue. The PSU job was his if he wanted it. Trust me on that. You can speculate all you want just b/c you are p!ssed and want to justify his reason for staying, but you have no insight to the situation or process.
For anyone here to say he's a traitor for interviewing, i COMPLETELY disagree. He's a NJ native, a PSU grad and all his roots are in the Northeast. That was his home and dream job for many many years. Any one of us would at least listen about a job offer from our dream job unless we were 100% happy with our current job, which 99% of the population is not. Just b/c he didn't contact every single one of you every hour for an update is ridiculous. I would rather him stay quiet and not do the whole "i'm not going anywhere" thing like Saban until he was certain. Now we can move forward. First order of business, keep this recruiting class in tact and properly evaluate your staff and schemes. That is the only thing we can really criticize him for at the moment. That defense was BAD. That scheme is terrible.
