What's your point? I'm not the one using Hurts as an example of a true freshman getting it done. Give your advanced stats to Dmoney.

If wins are what you're looking for, Hurts is the perfect example. If you're looking for performance as a passer, look no further than Kaaya and his ACC-leading stats as a true freshman.

Here's the bottom line: In the first seven games of the schedule, putting aside FSU, we play Bethune Cookman, Arkansas State and Toledo (at home). Those should be wins with Jon Richt at quarterback. We also play Duke, Syracuse and Georgia Tech. Those are three of the worst defenses Perry will ever face.

By the time Perry gets to the meat of the schedule, he should (barring injury) have a ton of experience and 6 wins in the bag with 6 or 7 games left to go. I expect 10 wins and anything less would be a disappointment.

Duke, Syracuse and GT are exactly the types of games a true freshman QB can lose. GT always gives us fits with their defense. Syracuse can score points and force you to answer. Duke always seems to play us pretty tough and usually knocks off a good team or two every year.

****, a true freshman QB can even get in trouble against a team like Ark State or Toledo.

If this team gets in trouble vs arkansas st or toledo even with a true freshmen qb then some changes need to be made. Al golden sorry *** had a freshmen in kaaya and didnt struggle vs a better arkansas st team than the one they will play this season.

I'm so glad we have you here to draw the line in the sand. Your hypothetical bravery should be commended.

Its facts.

Your old *** could beat arky state at QB.

I can sling it, son. No conscience.

We talkin cranks or playin QB? Never mind, I answered my own question.

Take out FSU..........I think our QBs are as good as the QBs on our schedule. Shiiiiiiidddddddd, let's kick it off and get after it!

If Perry had been an EE, I'd be much more confident in him. Thats a lot of time he could have had to learn the playbook and work with his teammates. I think we will for sure win 8 or more games this year regardless who the quarterback is, but imo, its not like Rosier or Shireffs gives me any more confidence than Perry would even as a non EE true frosh. At the end of the day our defense is going to lead us to however many wins we get this year. The QB play will have its ups and downs, but I'd rather go through those ups and downs with Perry rather than Rosier. I think Perry should be our #1 option at QB then Shireffs. I think Rosier is the worst option out of the 3.

I think we beat FSU and go to the ACC championship game if Perry is our QB. IDGAF what yall say.

Any of these dudes believing rosier or sheriffs is the answer for any portion of the season just because they are a rsjr or rssoph just needs to quit watching football.

This....
I don't understand why people have hope that rosier or sherriffs will be any better. Other than duke game with rozier neither have shown anything. If a freshman is close to what an upperclassman is capable of doing then you go with the freshman because they have more upside

This is pretty much it in a nutshell. We better hope Rosier steps up because we aren't winning 11 with a true freshmans summer enrollee.

The summer enrollee thing is a cop-out, in my opinion. The only reason you throw out that caveat is because a true freshman just led Alabama to the title game. Do you think Hurts won and Kaaya lost because Hurts had a better knowledge of the offense?

The game has changed. It is easier to get young guys ready to roll. The experience bar gets lower every year, in colleg e and the pros. The big question is whether we have a good enough team around Perry. Hurts obviously did.

Counterpoints:

1. Hurts enrolled at Alabama in December 2015 (https://theundefeated.com/features/...-hurts-and-the-black-qbs-who-came-before-him/) - that's a huge difference from what NKosi did. Those extra months make an astronomical difference, especially for a QB that will have to throw

2. Hurts is a different type of QB in a different type of system - was never expected to win with his arm, unlike Kosi if he's tabbed.

3. Alabama has 5 stars at the 3-deep in just about every position. Their o-line is always monstrous.

4. Kosi will literally have four weeks to learn a more complex position in which he'll be required to read, react and throw in real time at a speed he's never experienced before.

If you don't see the obstacles he has vs what Hurts had, I don't know what to say.

You can't even compare the two QBs or situations.

As OCC said in number 3 Bammer had 45 players on their roster with a 247 ranking of .9400 , meaning 5 and 4.5 ratings. Know stars don't matter on some guys, but when over half roster at least 4.5 stars they do matter. Believe CMR and staff need this years class and one following to get to that level.

Whoever wins the job the narrative that Ariz put out there about Richt favoring Shirreffs over the other veterans because of his accuracy is nonsense. What about Shirreffs completing around 44% of his passes and throwing no TDs over the last two scrimmages speaks to accuracy? Those numbers for a QB who has a risk adverse game allegedly are particularly horrific.

Shirreffs might be accurate in theory, but he's proven to be completely inaccurate with bullets flying. I think Rosier shyts on him right now, and I don't think Rosier is a great QB by any definition.

I agree. Sheriffs is pure dog ****. If he plays we are completely ****ed. Rosier at least is very athletic and has started a game vs ACC comp.

I think rosier starts with perry getting a couple of drives.

Lol at he has to learn the offense in 4 weeks when hes already been studying the playbook. Just bc Kaaya never won 10 games doesnt mean it takes all this extra **** to do so. Clowns act like you have to know the entire playbook to compete against our schedule. Pull ya skirt down relax

Everyone btched about Richt's play calling last year, but now it doesn't matter if he can't use half the playbook because his QB doesn't know the plays?

Because they've at least had years to learn the playbook. It's really not that hard to understand.

won't be surprised if Weldon makes a move up the depth chart

If you don't see the obstacles he has vs what Hurts had, I don't know what to say.

Of course Hurts had fewer obstacles. Alabama is a machine. They were one play away from the championship. Nobody is expecting that here.

But if you were to draw up an ideal situation for a true freshman QB, you'd give him:

1. A Top 10 defense.
2. The best running back in the conference.
3. The best receiver in the conference.
4. The best tight end in the conference.
5. An experienced offensive line.
6. A soft early schedule with 6 bad defenses in the first 7 games.

The team just needs to play solid, fundamental football like they did in the second half. Sound blocking, great tackling, tough running. Richt will hold Perry's hand, lean on Walton and use a fast receiving corps to threaten vertically and horizontally. The pieces are there for Perry to be successful IF he's the real deal.

If you're scared of playing a summer enrollee qb with all the talent he will be surrounded by then jump off the bus cause we riding with the better guy regardless and that's Perry. As repeated on several threads for months, he will not be ask to win games for us. He needs to manage the game by making proper reads and get the ball in the hands of the playmakers with simple throws. CMR will be with him everyday and put him in the best situation to succeed. I agree that most are using the summer enrollee thing as a copout, smh. You would rather play a upperclassmen without P5 talent than a frosh with all the upside, confidence, and football intellect.

How quickly we forget about our top ten defense this upcoming year, they will be the best in the ACC bar none. We shouldn't concern ourselves with the secondary because of the front seven, period! WHOEVER!; the QB is, this coaching staff is going to roll with Walton, Herndon and Richards, in that order on the offensive side of the ball. Tell me please!?!? Who is going to be able to stop those beasts in the ACC barring injury?? Oh yea, and *** the Semenholes...

Miami has never proven it can the run the football without a credible passing game. Guys thinking we're just going to ride Walton and the defense to anything of significance are dreaming. We can ride Walton and the defense to 8 and maybe 9 wins.

Nothing worse than a scared *** fanbase

I think Perry's the real deal, and the future.

I just don't think he'll be ready, because I don't think anyone could be ready in his situation.

If he wins the QB competition, then we're going to have to ride with him. I'll ride with whoever wins. I'm just hoping for the ideal situation which is a veteran that already knows and is in the system to step up because I think that gives us the best chance of getting to the ACCCG. It also gives Perry a chance to break in over time.

You don't think it's unrealistic to expect that from someone who will still be learning not only his position, and not only the game, but adjusting to the speed? Is it possible? Yes. Is it likely? No.

Also don't forget that the RPO system is an easy offense for a QB to learn. And I know that it isn't our entire offense, but If Perry is our QB there is no question that the RPO will be the focus of our offense to begin the season...and it should be. We need to make it as easy as possible for our QB, especially if it is a True Frosh. Let him scramble and run the RPO, and he can have early success. And as the season progresses let the playbook open up naturally as he gets more confident and develops a better understanding of the speed of the game and his reads.

If Perry starts I'm excited for how far we can go this season. I think with the Defense and weapons we have around him, and the potential that he has, I think Winning the ACC really is possible (not likely, but possible). However, if Rosier is our starter I just feel like we are limited to max of like 10 wins. Perry gives us more upside and downside, and I think it's worth the risk.

And that right there is the reality of the situation in a nutshell. Frustrating as ****. Chise is right in that we can't sit here and expect a true freshman QB and a summer enrollee at that lead us to anything of significance. We can all hope N'kosi is an outlier but we can't expect it. Richt is really going to earn his money this year but something tells me he's going to take the air out of the football, put the training wheels on and rely on the defense. It's either that or Shireffs or Rosier turn out to be gamers when the band is playing.

That's a good point about the RPO and that may very well be how things play out. Perry is definitely the most talented QB on the rooster and he very well could be the future but I'm nit going to sit here and crown the kid when he hasn't taken one live snap yet. I've seen too many "can't miss" QBs get anointed before they play a single down and then proceed to **** the bed. Personally I think Perry is going a very good player for us and he has a few things going in his favor. Richt has a very good track record with QBs and he will be surrounded by excellent talent. My bottom line is that we need to win 10+ games including the postseason. I don't give a **** who we do it but it needs to get done. No excuses.
