What if i told you 46% of Hurts completed passes were behind the line of scrimmage.

What's your point? I'm not the one using Hurts as an example of a true freshman getting it done. Give your advanced stats to Dmoney.

If wins are what you're looking for, Hurts is the perfect example. If you're looking for performance as a passer, look no further than Kaaya and his ACC-leading stats as a true freshman.

Here's the bottom line: In the first seven games of the schedule, putting aside FSU, we play Bethune Cookman, Arkansas State and Toledo (at home). Those should be wins with Jon Richt at quarterback. We also play Duke, Syracuse and Georgia Tech. Those are three of the worst defenses Perry will ever face.

By the time Perry gets to the meat of the schedule, he should (barring injury) have a ton of experience and 6 wins in the bag with 6 or 7 games left to go. I expect 10 wins and anything less would be a disappointment.

How quickly we forget about our top ten defense this upcoming year, they will be the best in the ACC bar none. We shouldn't concern ourselves with the secondary because of the front seven, period! WHOEVER!; the QB is, this coaching staff is going to roll with Walton, Herndon and Richards, in that order on the offensive side of the ball. Tell me please!?!? Who is going to be able to stop those beasts in the ACC barring injury?? Oh yea, and *** the Semenholes...

Miami has never proven it can the run the football without a credible passing game. Guys thinking we're just going to ride Walton and the defense to anything of significance are dreaming. We can ride Walton and the defense to 8 and maybe 9 wins.

t.

I don't disagree, but I also don't think it will be Perry that takes us there. We gave up 18 ppg last year, only half a point worse than Clemson. I can reasonably assume we will make a 1 ppg jump next year. That would finish top 8 in the nation. With a top 8 defense, you beat people in CFB

Duke, Syracuse and GT are exactly the types of games a true freshman QB can lose. GT always gives us fits with their defense. Syracuse can score points and force you to answer. Duke always seems to play us pretty tough and usually knocks off a good team or two every year.

****, a true freshman QB can even get in trouble against a team like Ark State or Toledo.

Is the 2017 Miami team equivalent to Alabama talent-wise? Will Richt be asking his QB to do the things that Kiffin asked Hurts to do? If the answers to those two aren't yes then he isn't a perfect example. You're using the most dominant machine college football has ever seen to prove a point that would be an outlier to begin with even if Hurts had won 11 games at Washington State as a true freshman

As for Kaaya's numbers, against Power 5 competition in 2014 the team scored just over 8 pts per game in the second half when you remove the blocked punt against Virginia.

So keep tossing his empty numbers at us if you want. That wasn't a successful season. He did plenty of stat compiling in the first half of games and against subpar competition.

Yes.

All this will happen as you state, IFFFFFF Perry learns incredibly fast, picks up the offense in a few weeks, plays near perfect for a true freshmans, gets every possible break, and adapts to speed of the college game quickly, doesn't get rattled easily, and never loses his confidence when he makes a mistake here or there.

Or, he could play like the most recent freshmans throwing QB to start, the highly touted Josh Rosen, which means we probably only win 8.

Or, he plays like most true freshmen, then you're talking 7 wins, maybe.

You're literally counting on everything to go perfect for him.

That's a **** of a lot on his shoulders.

Lmao @ Syracuse...

They gave up 76 points last year to a team that doesn't have 1/3rd the amount of talent we do.

A TF QB would struggle on the road vs teams like FSU, NC or a home game like ND/Va Tech but the team's you mentioned don't strengthen that argument.

Those Duke, Cuse & GTech games are layups even with a Freshman QB & I say that not expecting for Perry to be the starter.

Your point about TF QB's is true, the only problem is the two upperclassmen aren't lighting the world on fire either, the question will remain how long do we stick with Shirreffs or Rosier if they lose to FSU or any other game early on?

The talk of a Freshman QB basically guaranteeing that we won't win anything big this season is couched under the expectation that the 2 upperclassmen better win the games we're supposed to lose with a Frosh QB or else the whole point becomes null & void.

This is pretty much it in a nutshell. We better hope Rosier steps up because we aren't winning 11 with a true freshmans summer enrollee.

The summer enrollee thing is a cop-out, in my opinion. The only reason you throw out that caveat is because a true freshman just led Alabama to the title game. Do you think Hurts won and Kaaya lost because Hurts had a better knowledge of the offense?

The game has changed. It is easier to get young guys ready to roll. The experience bar gets lower every year, in college and the pros. The big question is whether we have a good enough team around Perry. Hurts obviously did.
You're right, D however a true frosh winning by default isn't ideal. If a kid goes to Bama and wins the job, then awesome, but....well you get me. Can he do it? Of course. Sucks we are out of options though and he isn't even here yet.

Whoever wins the job the narrative that Ariz put out there about Richt favoring Shirreffs over the other veterans because of his accuracy is nonsense. What about Shirreffs completing around 44% of his passes and throwing no TDs over the last two scrimmages speaks to accuracy? Those numbers for a QB who has a risk adverse game allegedly are particularly horrific.

Shirreffs might be accurate in theory, but he's proven to be completely inaccurate with bullets flying. I think Rosier shyts on him right now, and I don't think Rosier is a great QB by any definition.

Except that Shirreffs was the best of the QBs in the first scrimmage. ... And we've only seen Rosier against Duke where he looked All-ACC for a few series, then did nothing the rest of the game versus a mediocre defense.

Personally, I'm with you in that I would prefer to see Rosier at the helm to give Perry time to get his sea legs and work him in slowly. But I agree with the premise that we don't need our QB to win games, we just need him not to lose any. So if Rosier goes off the reservation too often, then I'd rather have a more consistent Shirreffs start, and pull forward the amount of series we give to Perry in a 1b role. ... assuming he's as good as advertised, which we won't know until he gets dirt in his grill a few times against FSU.

I know this "we just need a QB not to lose" is a popular thing to say and I don't completely discredit it, however if we are going to beat VT, for example, we are going to need some points. A guy like Foster will kill us if we simply have a game manager back there. The Coastal is much better on paper this year and I don't think we can get by with the "just don't lose guy". We have a great defense potentially, but this is still college football. It's an offense game.

Just my 2 cents though. I'm cautiously optimistic.

I feel the same way...

We're not going to beat FSU on the road with a 5yd Checkdown artist at QB, we need a QB that can make throws down the field that will challenge Defenses.

Otherwise, the teams we face that have athletic Defenses will pin their ear back & load the box with 8 man fronts, making it harder to run the ball while also putting heavy pressure on the OL.

Any of these dudes believing rosier or sheriffs is the answer for any portion of the season just because they are a rsjr or rssoph just needs to quit watching football.
