Blake James said he'd love it if The U had a stadium at Tropical Park..but there is no facility there..In other words .we need donors

Where are all the mega rich UM alumni???.... **** this **** shouldnt be that difficult.

It is not the DONOR's job to come to UM and make it rain on this *****. It is Blake's job to organize and plan for this, hence why I don't think Blake is the man for the job.

That is why I keep saying, how about a NEW plan? With a new fundraising campaign?

You want to see a real AD, go look at Tom Jurich. Jurich is committed to do whatever it takes to make Louisville athletics a major power, and he's done an incredible job of that in a short time period. When bigger programs were courting Charlie ******* this past offseason, Jurich came right out and said, "whatever they pay you we will pay you just as much to stay here. Whatever you need to build a successful program, we will provide it for you."

Jurich is a get-it-done guy. Is Blake? The jury's out, but it doesn't look good when he makes so many ***gy public statements about getting UM a stadium. His first public statement as AD should have been: "We are going to build a stadium. Period. We are going to get it done and restore our homefield advantage and bring pride back to the program." He would have had everyone jumping out of their skin to support him and his plan.

The AD's job is to raise funds and to make this program the best in the country. This program has too many built-in advantages that it needs to be treated like the gem that it is. Shalala is a fund-raising machine. She can raise a billion bucks in a week. Blake should sit down with her and come up with a plan. If all these other bullshyt programs can build their own stadiums, then so can UM. No more limp-wristed sissified excuses. If Blake doesn't get it done, then he's Fake.

Franchise,

While I agree with the tone, the problem with expecting him to say that is that, behind the scenes, people are saying there's no ******* way a stadium gets built. So, if he comes out and says that, when it doesn't get done, he basically loses all credibility. You'd essentially be asking a general to come out and say we're going to win a war, even though the general was already told he wouldn't be given anything more than pistol and a "good luck" wish.

Agree with the intent and tone. Just don't know what he can do if he's explicitly told that **** isn't going to fly. UM put in a sick amount of money into Cedars and its hemorrhaging cash. They're putting all their funds into innovation and buildings in the Health district to protect their original move.

I know, it's amazing that we won 5 National Championships without that indoor practice facility. I mean it just starting raining over the last few years.

http://kawneer.aias.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/3463.pdf

Sadly, as a gables resident I know they would never allow that. Drop that into Tropical and now we are talking. As far as a multi-use facility.....please don't incorporate soccer! Makes the field too **** wide and the stands start too far away. Obviously if that's the only choice....oh well, but that's the worst aspect of Sun Life.

I believe this as well. Tropical Park or the old zoo.

I hear you guys. But, i wanted to show what a little ambition can bring to the table. This was designed by our students. Pretty awesome if you ask me.
Tropical Park is a viable option but, don't sleep on the Magic City Casino property. If it happens, you heard it hear first.

I've mentioned the MCC property for a while to anyone who was discussing potential stadium locations:

10-24-2012, 02:41 PM
"I said it before - anyone interested in a new stadium should do the following:

(1) Buy Magic City Casino (only a few blocks from the OB site).
(2) Demolish Magic City Casino
(3) Build stadium
(4) Buy out remainder of UM's lease with Sun Life
(5) Welcome Hurricanes to new stadium

That was easy. Now get going."

10-24-2012, 03:32 PM
"...Magic City Casino is 29 acres. The old OB site (including both the county owned stadium and the city owned parking garages) is about the same as Magic City Casino. Marlins Stadium by itself (County owned portion - which does not include the parking garages) is on 14+ acres."

I'd just like them to at least try to discuss it. Come up with a plan and put forth the effort to see exactly how much it costs and how long the fund raising campaign would need to run. I'm tired of, "oh gosh...that would take so much money that it just hurts my little head".

While I agree with the tone, the problem with expecting him to say that is that, behind the scenes, people are saying there's no ****ing way a stadium gets built. Admittedly, I don't know UM's finances in any detail. I do, however, know that UM can raise money with the best.

I'm not sure that UM's medical school investments would affect a UM fundraising effort by the athletic department. I think that UM's athletic department could probably spearhead a fundraising effort for a stadium, and I'm pretty sure it would be separate from the medical school stuff. Again, though, I don't purport to have any inside knowledge or expertise on the interrelatedness of the two branches--academic and athletic fundraising.

If you have first-hand knowledge that Blake has been told by Shalala and/or the Trustees that they'd never let him raise funds to build a stadium, then I will discontinue criticizing him for not being stronger on this issue.

Where you gonna build a stadium, and who's gonna pay for it?

Blah blah blah.

I live in Dallas, and a local high school here just finished building a brand new 30,000 seat stadium at over $60 million.

http://www.wfaa.com/sports/high-school/New-60-million-Allen-stadium-one-of-a-kind-164931536.html

Another local high school in Dallas is building one just like it to compete. And you're telling me the University of Miami can't keep up with some Texas high school?

I might try and go see a game here. I wish they were playing Southlake in Allen this year.

The Coppell game is on 9/27 and should be a **** of a game. They should be in the national championship discussion. DE Solomon Thomas is one to watch for sure.

http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Solomon-Thomas-128405

Maybe thats the one I go and see. The is my first football season in Texas so it should be fun.

Andrew - August 30, Allen vs Southlake Carroll in Southlake. This will be the Texas HS football experience that you want to see. GO TO THIS GAME and come back and tell everyone that you now understand what Swag's been talkin' 'bout.

Just curious, if some private citizen came forth and said "Here is a check for $______.__, go build a stadium", what would that $ amount have to be for them to say "Yes, this will do it, let's get after it". ?

That doesn't have much to do with the ability to fund-raise though. I'm not expecting UM to build a stadium from its sports revenue. I'd bet Louisville's basketball expenditures are significantly higher than UM's too.

Blake James and the whole athletic department is a joke. It's not hard to build a stadium at tropical park. Fof $100 million, Miami could build the stadium obtain a no cost 99 year lease for the property from the city for 12-15 days a year. that is a drop in the bucket. It is his job to announce the campaign for a stadium. This should be priority number 1.

Hate his tone, not the guy I believe can get UM what he needs. Prove me wrong Blake.

i think miami will always be miami but i feel our program will take a major jump if we get our own stadium i think the tax payers should chip in i mean this is our home town team and we should support these guys florida and fsu get goverment funding even tho were a privet school we should still get a little help i mean fau and fiu have there own stadium... man i think we should leave the ACC and go independent like ND and really profit off our brand....

I meant that as a response solely to the quotes about Strong's salary. Louisville has more to play with, and some of their extra expenditures are most definitely for coaches.
