If he was Syracuse n FSU & Michigan wouldn't be 3 of his Top 4 schools. Almost seems like bball comes first actually
I could see him being a really good receiver actually for Michigan. Assuming he's able to gain weight he's a perfect match for not only big 10 play (ala Harrison) but more specifically Michigan. He fits their offense. But I've been said I think cause is where this is headed. Won't work out as well for him. But that's on him.

Agree, if you’re a 5 starWR talent serious about making the top 3 rounds of the NFL draft you dont sign up to play for Cuse of all places. Unfortunately he doesn’t realize he has as much of a chance to be a Highly paid NBA player as me & you.

Personally I think he's got his priorities out of wack. But I understand his approach cause honestly he doesn't have the game to be a top tier basketball player and he doesn't have the body type or physical attributes(outside of height) to be a top tier football player either. At his age to have some type of height(don't know when he hit his growth spurt @Confidence1000 not sure if that one gets by or not) allot of kids are still clumsy with it because they haven't acclimated to that height, footwork etc. But he's not that tall where that should be the issue. To me it seems like he's got a long road ahead of him to become good to great in either sport especially football cause I don't see it period in basketball.

The thing that makes Michigan a good match for him is big 10 style of play. You can get by WITHOUT elite athleticism at the receiver position if you have the right body type. They're not typically the best athletes in the big 10 and the cold (extreme cold in plenty of instances)helps certain positions mask that. It's all about weight for him and becoming physical. All I see now is a possession receiver who lacks the speed & physicality to win consistently on 50/50 balls.

This. You tend to know a little earlier in basketball. If he’s gonna turn into a legit high-end pro prospect, it’s likely in football.

I wouldn't say it's likely. BUT you can at least see a path to him becoming that guy... Basketball not at all. Seen him play once in a tournament nephew was in and left thinking what the **** people talking bout with him.

I didn’t mean it’s likely he becomes a Day 1/2 NFL pick.

I meant if he’s going to become one in one of the sports, he’s got a better shot for it to be in football than basketball.

Yea the reason is LSU has the #1 wr in the country committed and two other instaters locked in. lol

Ohio State has 4 wr committed already.

Those two schools arent going to PAY Him the NIL warranted and he isnt a NEED recruit for them.

He is/was a need for us who we couldnt recruit/sell ..pay... to come here. Got straight smacked really for him .
All that doesn’t change the fact, that he’s slender built and can’t really run routes. The kid has a ton of work to do to live up to any blue chip status at the next level. And I mean a ton! Don’t get me wrong, I’d still love him on our team, but he has a ton of work to do. People seem to forget that and think he’s ready-made like Jeremiah or something.

6’5”, not a guard skill-wise, too light/not enough bounce to be a undersized 4. Not an “elite athlete” in the basketball sense. Most of his game below the rim. Agree that it’s difficult to see him being a significant basketball player for any school on his list. Could see him becoming a multi-transfer kid in college. By all accounts he’s a good kid, may be lacking in self-awareness though

And add to this, if he is seriously considering playing both sports in college, the basketball training is likely going to impair the muscular and physical development he needs for football.

And I’ll take it a step further and say that I think he likely needs a year in the weight room. In this NIL era, is he going to be patient if he goes somewhere where the lack of physical development prevents him from cracking the top 4 the first season?

Hmm, I'm kind of confused with the rhetoric here that the kid can't run routes, he's very skinny, etc. This is boy who can and will develop. Isn't that why college programs have weight rooms and a strength coach to get these kids stronger to play college football? We have an experienced WR coach who should be able to teach Calvin how to run precise routes to make him a very effective route runner. What a coach can't teach is height and that's what Calvin has. It's a shame that it appears he doesn't want to play for the Canes but if he wants to get away then so be it. There are plenty of college athletes that want to leave home and experience an different atmosphere.

Logical and makes perfect sense. Only issue is how committed he is to playing basketball and how long before he commits full time to football. Difficult to physically develop and pick up nuances of the game if you’re in the basketball gym.

I listened to the Dmoney and Ariz podcast with Duasso, who claimed the kid is night and day more developed than last season. I know we have photos of him where he still looks underdeveloped, but has anyone on here seen him recently? Duasso's his 7x7 coach, so I'm guessing he's closer to the situation. But he's also the most likely to exaggerate Russell's value. 6'6" high-end receivers with basketball moves and speed are rare.

i like Somorion Wingo out of St Augustine.

There were ample wrs to prioritize and they dug in on Keys from Hattiesburg ms n him as the main priorities.

I like Spafford n Evans pull just need another wr to round out the class to me.

This… I understand some of the disappointment and I'm losing faith in beard myself. But people really underrating Spafford. It's like they pick and choose when to believe rankings. Spafford track times sick and that production against big school Cali speaks for itself … DMoney also vouched for him when he was a GA commit telling everyone how he was destroying Sofla DBs in 7 on 7. Top 8-10 WR in country.

I would love to see us make another run or up the Wingo bad. Official visit season was weird for even on who we did land. Do our officials suck lol? Or do kids come in and say a number and CMC doesn't budge off his number.

Here’s the fact. We can afford to pay him but we can’t pay him more than the other WRs we have on the roster bc he’s close to their people. ****** part of NIL.

This is interesting and I always wonder about that dynamic

Is that going to be the case for next years SFL WR class since they would have ties with current guys on the roster.

Pretty stupid reasoning when some will either get reworked deals from improved play or asked to leave in the next offseason cuz they just aren’t good enough.
