Hurlie is proving himself to be a valuable member of our staff.... the guy is a great recruiter and pretty good coach this kid might not end up at Miami but I like the fact that we are showing the kid love early and that might help us out in the future

Mack had a breakout sophomore season in 2012, when he recorded 64 tackles, 16 for loss, six sacks, and six fumble recoveries to earn Defensive Newcomer of the Year honors on the ETSN.fm East Texas Football Super Team. Mack is the consensus No. 1 recruit in East Texas’ 2015 class, which early on appears to be one of the region’s strongest in recent memory.

He won overall Defensive MVP honors and the top defensive lineman award at the ETSN.fm Football Recruiting Combine at APEC training facility in Tyler on May 19 with an eye-opening performance in testing and lineman one-on-ones. He ran the fastest 40-yard dash of any of the event’s 21 players 230 pounds or heavier with a 4.84-second laser-timed run. He also had the second-most bench reps at 225 pounds with 21 and recorded vertical and broad jumps of 30 inches and nine feet even, respectively.

Mack plans to visit Texas on July 27. He’s recently stated on Twitter that Miami’s tradition — especially on the defensive side of the ball — make the Hurricanes an interesting recruiting option. Texas A&M has long been considered the team to beat in Mack’s recruitment, although he has recently chosen to slow down the commitment process so he can make as well-researched a decision as possible.

He’s the second East Texan in the 2014 or 2015 class with a Miami offer, joining Lufkin senior defensive tackle D.J. Williams (6-4, 293).

Wel...

Mack, the No. 1 prospect in Texas and No. 10 in the nation for 2015, received an offer from LSU. Make no mistake, this one was a big deal to Mack.
Max Olson/ESPNESPN Junior 300 DT Daylon Mack said Texas A&M should "definitely be worried" about his LSU offer.
“This offer is definitely a game-changer in my recruiting process,” he said. “It’s the offer I’ve been the happiest to receive so far.”
The 6-foot-2, 307-pound tackle said LSU is now in his top six, along with Texas A&M, Texas, Florida State, Clemson and TCU. In fact, the Tigers are right near the top of that list now.
“They’re already at the top with A&M, and I haven’t even visited yet,” he said. “I can’t imagine what it’ll be like when I do. I can’t wait to get out there.”
What has Mack so excited about LSU, even though he’s never been on campus? First, LSU is a five-hour drive from Gladewater, making it not that much further from home than longtime leader Texas A&M or Texas.
But the Tigers’ tradition of producing NFL-caliber defensive tackles matters much more to Mack.
“They’re a defensive tackle factory,” he said. “Playing for Les Miles would be a dream come true. This is no doubt a blessing. I feel like the happiest man in the world.”
Mack said he’s going to talk with his parents about planning a trip to Baton Rouge, but it likely won’t come until an unofficial visit for a home game this fall.
When asked what this means for the rest of the teams on his list, Mack said Texas A&M should “definitely be worried about LSU.”

Lol @ these Texas kids. Kid really "wanted" for FSU & Miami to offer him.

@DaylonMack: Top Five LSU A&M TCU Clemson Texas the two at the top are tied for #1

Says his parents dont want him to go far from home, so all florida schools are eliminated.

That's a little more respectable to be honest. But IIRC his parents were the ones that wanted him to look at all of his options OOS. Either way it doesn't really matter to me anymore.

I won't believe we can pull a high-profile OOS DT until we actually do it.

It seems like every year we're in it early for them only for them to spurn us.

Of course it is.

I bet you his parents would not like the fans of LSU or Clemson if they got to know them.

She is right, it is only 4 hours a way. I take it back. Coral Gables is the same as Sanford.
