Bull****....FIU had a deal worked out with him.

Pete, is it one guy or the majority of the decision makers that are against Butch?

The UNC thing is crazy if you look at the facts.

Butch has two issues against him. There are still hard feelings about his lying to the school, and the UNC fiasco is really bad. UNC may well get destroyed by the NCAA in the near future, and its nearly impossible to believe that he did not know and condone. There is a reason he hasnt even received an offer in years.

p.s. Dont shoot the messenger, I like Butch, just not getting my hopes up for something that is not going to happen.

FIU? Isn't that like crowing about Coker coaching at UTSA? Butch has a lot of baggage and it's ibviouslybbad enough that anything but a desperate bottom dweller won't consider him. I've said 1000 times I think he's the right guy at the right time for UM and would be delighted to have him back. But I think people are setting themselves up for major disappointment. Even if they hear him out. When they do the due diligence he will not get cleared.

The NCAA is NOT going to give him any exoneration proving he knew nothing. The most the NCAA will do is like any court or PD just say that there was no sufficient evidence to charge him or implicate him. That's not saying he's "innocent". The fact is there are players that have since come out and said that he knew what was going on. It's been in the media. Add that to the fact we are still on probation and the NCAA mess we went through, and too it off with the bad blood that still exists over how he left the first time. Butch is just too much for UM to swallow. **** he's got too much baggage that most programs haven't come calling. Much less one he has baggage with over how he left AND a school on probation that just went through a multi year NCAA scandal and investigation.

If people take their fandom and emotion out of the equation and just use some logic and common sense it becomes fairly obvious that Butch is a major long shot. Maybe this new Pres will somehow become infatuated and push for him and others will agree to give it a shot but I see that as a pipe dream. UM is not Alabama or TAMU where sports decisions are the driving force for the admin.

I think people are setting themselves up for major disappointment here. It's great to say BBB and yes he would be ideal. But the reality is that UNC mess is just going to be insurmountable for UM especially being on probation and coming off the Shapiro thing.

Shannon was the coach during the Shapiro "thing". He is employed as a college coach.

Erickson was the (main) coach during the Pell Grant "thing". He later coached in the NFL and in college. He may still be coaching (not sure).

The Pell Grant (thing) may have started on Jimmy Johnson's watch. He obviously coached for a couple years afterward....

Same with numerous other coaches who were on staff when a scandal broke out...

The information I post here may or may not have already been posted on the boards or on my Twitter, but this is what I can confirm we know right now.

**Butch is still very unlikely. He is obviously interested, but the response has been an aggressive no when his name comes up. The residue from the UNC mess hurts him here. Crazy things happen in coaching searches, but I would be very surprised.

**Rob Chudzinski remains a name in the mix. After the Cincinnati loss, Chud's name began circulating once again. He is a realistic hire, but this is not the buzz hire Miami needs.

**Opinion on Mario Cristobal is mixed. Some believe that he has learned under Saban, but others seem cautious because of his reputation of being hard to get along with.

**SEC Coaches are expressing interest in this job. Mark Stoops and Kirby Smart are two notables that we are hearing have quietly thrown their names into the hat. Other SEC assistants will emerge as well.

**Marshall's Doc Holliday is a longshot, but word is he would be interested. His buyout is not considered a major issue and he is a tremendous recruiter. Think Canes want younger though.

If this information is accurate, we're f&cked

Thank you for eloquently making the case. It has nothing to do with whether you like Butch or not, its just highly unlikely to happen. UNC really deserves the death penalty, that is not going to happen, but their penalties will be severe, and there will be lots of repercussions.

Understood... but leaking Doc Holiday, the original bagman, as an ethical candidate? BOT going full Steve Jobs reality distortion field

Doc Holliday has zero chance, even less than Butch.

problem I see with not considering butch is you seldom see a situation where a guy the fans will overwhelmingly accept also wants the job. let's face it butch is the fan's choice. is he the absolute best choice? maybe not. but the admin is so blind and stupid...give the people what they want. at least you will sell tickets and have some excitement. you aren't going to get that with doc holiday or Mario.

Brent Venables earned himself a good look his name should be said more

I liked Brent for the HC job after Randy Shannon, but I get the sense that Brent likes being the #2 guy and not dealing with the headaches of being the HC. Some people just prefer that and I think he is one of them, he does a **** good job of being a coordinator too, so maybe he wants to keep at what he does best.

If we hire a coordinator (and I hope we don't) I would think Kirby smart is one of the best options available for the reasons people are using to support Mario.

I agree with those saying anyone can recruit south Florida if you put a good product on the field. Even golden, with all his boneheaded ignorance about how to relate to and recruit south Florida kids, would have been a great recruiter if he had a good on-field product and a scheme that matched the talent base.

First and foremost is the ability to coach the game, recruiting prowess is secondary. That is why the one deal killer to me is lack of X's and O's experience (Mario). Especially since I am skeptical that even a home run hire will be given the support to gather an experienced staff so a lot of the scheme will need to come from the top.

I'd like to see Butch back in the fold!
Forget the West Virginia guys! They get the recruits that can't get in to the U!
I wouldn't be surprised if you hear names such as Richt(especially after this weekend), Rodriguez, Gundy, Stoops, etc.

We will ***** up this hire...and the program wont survive another 4-5 years of mediocrity... I blame that troll shalala

I say, after Duke beats us 60-0, we kidnap Cutcliffe, bring him back to Coral Gables and force him to be our new coach.

If we go coordinator Venables, Smart, and Durkin are the only 3 worth mentioning. I hope it doesnt come to this though.
