Coaching You can’t defend Cristobal anymore

You are being emotional.

Mario wasnt outcoached.

Jojo drops a pass, INT short field Td.

Lofton drops a pass for a TD.

Beck throws iNT in OT.

Refs screwed Miami sideways. That wasnt outcoached.
I think it can be all three. Players made mistakes and Mario can't catch the ball for them. The referees were bad but they weren't the reason we lost either. And Mario isn't worst coach in America, like some of the folks on here believe. At worst, he has proven that he can build a Top 10 or 15 team with enough resources.

But the coaching staff is not getting the most out of the offensive talent we have and we absolutely play too conservatively and we consistently demonstrate that we cannot make creative adjustments when the "pound them into submission" style doesn't work. And this leaves us vulnerable to lesser competition.

I would argue that our roster is just as talented as Georgia and if we played them on a neutral field, we'd probably only be 3 or 3.5-point underdogs. But Kirby Smart simply never loses games like this. Mario has lost 6 of them. That isn't a fluke.

Haha, good luck man. These guys are certain that we lose games because we run the ball (for 159 yards, by the way). They just brush aside the drops and turnovers. They literally think that taking a knee with 25 seconds left was more of an issue than dropping a pass in the end zone.

We rank 75th in yards per rush (right in between the perennial powers of Eastern Michigan and Rice). In conference, we are averaging less than 4 yards per rush (good for 90th against conference opponents in the country).

You thought the coaching job was excellent and all of the blame goes to the players? Or do you at least think that losing these games is kind of an indication and reflection on the coaching staff?

No one said all of it. You guys are acting like it all goes to the coaches. What you guys refuse to admit is this team has some serious discipline and execution issues. If those were cleaned up we would be undefeated. If the couches called better plays but they get called back by stupid penalties it won't make a difference. You cannot out coach turnovers and stupid penalties on a consistent basis. If you guys want to blame the coaches for the discipline then fine but that's not what I'm hearing. If he went for it with 25 seconds left and Beck throws an int and they kick a field goal you would be saying it was stupid to go for it. I'm not a fan of Dawson's offense, but it's not the reason we lost either of these games.

I think the refs directly impacted the game.

You think if UF was driving on UGA and they called a timeout, but 1 UGA DE ran into QB, but realized it last 2nd and held the QB up, the refs would have called a flag on UGA?

1000% no.

You think they would pick up a PI FLAG? No

Those calls can directly impact a win or a loss.

The coaching staff is playing more conservative because they dont trust Beck not to throw INT's.

Maybe the fanbase will smarten up and realize that. When they trusted their QB last season they were not conservative.

Convenience Store Vintage GIF

I would love it if one of you could respond with some kind of coherent sentence. Resorting to GIFs just screams inadequate.

Just like anywhere else, it's a combination of both. Something isn't getting across in practice for the penalties to keep happening. At the same time, catch the f'ing ball.

But it's funny that you replied with rushing stats after a game where we ran for 159 yards and the passing game blew it AGAIN.

That actually didn't directly impact a win or loss, because SMU still would have had a chance to go for it and we still had overtime, so it influenced the outcome.

We are in Week 10 of the season playing conservative to hope that our 5th-year quarterback doesn't throw interceptions? Yikes.

I am not even a Mario hater. **** I was on your team last week. But when you've lost 6 times to unranked teams it is more than just players.

We ran the ball 40 times for those 159 yards. That is less than four yards per carry. Would be good for 9th-best in the conference. That is not a recipe for long-term success.

You conveniently left off the rest of the sentence:

"...and the passing game blew it AGAIN."

So the passing game and the run game are both underwhelming. The whole offensive operation is **** which is inexcusable in Y4 after all that we have invested in the QB, the OL, and the skill talent + having the best freshman WR in America.

What am I missing here? What’s the discussion. Please, I am begging, catch me up.

JoJo should have caught the ball. Lofton should have caught the ball. Toney should have flattened out his route.

Now are we allowed to talk about how our running game is as effective as Eastern Michigan’s or nah?

Just trying to find out if nuance is allowed or if you are hanging the result of an entire game on three plays.

Toney scored on that exact route earlier in the season. Because he came back to Beck on his route then turned it up.
It was still a bad route on his own improvisation. He had a step on his guy. He lost that step and put the defender between him and Beck because he came off the og route. If he stays flat that defender has to go thru him to get to the ball or it’s a catch.

Absolutely. Lashlee is a perfect example — you don’t need a $9M-a-year “name” to build a functional modern program. Smart hiring, clear offensive identity, and roster construction that matches your scheme go a long way.

In the NIL era, it’s less about who you hire and more about how you allocate resources across staff, development, NIL, and retention. You can pay a hungry, system-driven coach less, surround him with strong coordinators, and get better results than throwing everything at one guy and hoping his personality carries the day.

The model is changing. Miami needs to evolve with it. The buy-a-brand-name era is dying — the efficiency era is already here.
Do you want a “functional modern program” or a championship program? We have the first. We are far from the second.

Bash Mario all you want. He’s earned it. But you gotta keep the logic logical.

They wanted a look at the formation. Teams do it all the time.

running with a narrative. Players make the plays, refs make the right calls, that was a double digit win, had nothing to do with being outcoached.
I don't think anyone has an issue with the thought behind the timeout. BUT, if you are going to do that, communicate it to the guys on the field so you don't have a situation like what happened. Send that info in with a substitution. It sure didn't seem like anyone on the field expected that timeout...

I've seen people say it was so loud they didn't hear the whistle in the stands; others have said it was pretty clear. Yet SMU's guys continued to engage our DL too......

I am absolutely hanging on plays that literally changed the game. Changed it from a 10 point win to a loss. Plays that high school players make every Friday night.

@TaylorWalls

Lashlee too. You’re preaching to the choir. It’s possible to hire a staff for less and do better in the win column. 💁🏻‍♂️
I understand the point here and I’m NOT defending our coaching staff. But for what it’s worth, Lashlee is not doing better in the win column. And if we had lost 13-12 to Wake Forest, South Florida would be on fire right now.

I get that part of the argument is that Lashlee would be better if he had our talent perhaps, but part of the reason we have that talent is because that’s what Mario is good at. You cannot throw the baby out with the bath water in this situation.
