Yahoo Sports Does a Hit Job on Manny Diaz!

Don't want recruits to decommit?

Start winning BIGTIME

Even then you can't stop people from changing their minds.

Recruits can and should look around then do whatever is best for themselves. We got a lot to offer and shouldn't fear comparison.

IF someone really wants to come here they'll stick. IF NOT then he won't.

EVERY COACH in every era wished ALL their commitments would stick. Nothing new there

But other coaches accept that the ONLY firm commitment dates are the National Signing Days.

Live with it just as every other coach does

Agreed Manny made a commitment to temple and backed out. Everybody understands why he did it. Now he wants recruits to make a commitment and tells them to shut it down. Maybe if Miami actually started winning consistently recruits might not be backing out so often.
Did Manny have to pay a buy out? He probably had a buyout provision on which he made good. Thus, it was probably understood by Temple that he could leave. It is not the same as a kid who plays Miami to near the end than walks. Miami is left with no recourse. This is another unwarranted smear by a third tier "journalist."

Sports media loves to kick us when we're down. And also when we're not down.

The article fails to mention that other coaches do the same thing and portrays his leaving Temple as some kind of sleazy move. They got $4 million and still had plenty of time to find a coach. Nothing in the article is factually incorrect, but the slant is absolutely anti-Miami.

in fairness to manny, by all accounts he told them if um ever opened, he was leaving

wasn't aware of that...was that reported in open sources?

IF he did inform them of that desire, less of d!ck move on his part then...Temple knew the risk

Miami has a decommitment problem so whatever we have been doing isn’t working so you got to do something. Miami by far has the most decommitments in the last decade. Don’t care for this article.
Making it worse is technically doing something. That being said, he needs to weed out the guys using UM for bigger bags, somehow. I do expect this to make it harder for him in the short term, but it could pay off down the road IF he starts winning.

As for the article... What is it about yahoo that wants Miami to fail? Someone, somewhere can't stand the thought of Miami succeeding. Coaches change jobs all the time, usually to go somewhere to fix problems. Decommitments is a huge problem that needs to be fixed. Also, didn't Temple make a few bucks off of us taking their coach? They should be happy.

Unfortunately, this article and some of the comments will be used against Miami in the coming recruiting season.

As has been mentioned, winning is the answer.

If Manny had stayed true to his Temple commitment, and we had ended up somehow with Leach, I'd have been happier. That's life though.

The difference now is we won't get initial commitments that kids later back out on. That'll make our de-commitment stats look better. Mission accomplished.

You do realize we've lead the country in decommitments for years running even when we were winning under Richt right? I guess we should just operate business as usual and not try to change that?

The important fact is the the Article should say:
"Commits do change their minds when bags come calling. "
Miami 's Diaz is saying : "If you want to go bagging then do not waste our time."

Let's see if they have the guts to write an article on that..........
To compare Coaches and their movements is stupid......why?
Because for the Coach it is a JOB, where you earn MONEY........recruits get a scholarship worth hundreds of thousands for free. Hello Bar Milo.
who does not want to move up and be successful for a better job?.
Which of those journalist in Manny's position would have turned down the Miami dream job.......because it is/ was hypocritical to Temple?...99.995% would have done what Manny did.
The writer is a jerk, because the converse is that some recruits play around with their commitments,( using Miami to get more offers) , and in playing around affect teams, Coaches, and conferences.
Win or lose your job for Coaches......livelihood is affected.
Recruit loses his playing time....ride the pine, and get a degree anyway. Hello Bar Milo.
Article is slanted, and probably written by a Gator or worse........ Manny is right.....on board or not, we r done playing games.
