Two observations regarding Baker's "scheme", and I use that term loosely.
1. The more aggressive he gets at the line of scrimmage in terms of blitzing, the more conservative he gets on the back end. Almost every time we blitz we're in a cover 3 shell playing off coverage. A good team with a good passing attack will rip this to shreds.
2. For the life of me I don't understand why he doesn't mix in more man under 2 deep looks. We ran it on the final drive and you could see the difference. The one thing Blades and Ivey seem to do well is press man coverage. They suck with the ball in the air but they do a decent job of staying with their men.
#2 above is kinda the same gripe I have with Lashlee. It just feels this coaching staff doesn't do a good job of taking inventory of what WE DO have, and building a scheme around our strengths.
I'm going to keep saying this.....on offense we should be running a two tight end ACE offense ALL GAME LONG. I cannot understand how they can justify taking one or either of Brevin or Mallory off the field AT ANY MOMENT. Those two should be in the game TOGETHER all game long. Newsflash, it will also help the run game since they each block better than an additional receiver would.
On defense, we should be playing a **** of a lot more press man.
It's mind boggling this coaching staff can't recognize this. A big part of being a good coach is the ability to self evaluate.
