Y’all talk about Cb play, safety play has been even worse

Bolden has been taking bad angles, gets juked easily, and struggles to wrap up recently. He started the year with such promise and now he’s struggling bad. I think it’s getting in his head too with the bonehead penalty

This is all a DIRECT indictment of Manny and Rumph's recruiting failures. They have both been here long enough, even going back to BEFORE Manny got promoted, where it's fair to staple that depth chart to both of their foreheads. This defense still has holes all over the place and lacks playmakers at every level.

The recruiting is subpar, but the coaching is **** poor. Our CBs have zero ball skills. Not only do they not get their head turned around, they don't play the WRs eyes and swat the ball away either. Just an absolute liability.

Pucker your ******* when we play wake and UNC.

Couch is a great blitzer actually

I will have to rewatch, but I recall one being a coverage sack where the pocket already collapsed and Couch got Hooker right before he took off running. I didn't see couch cause any disruption blitzing.
 
Couch certainly got home on the blitz at a critical point @ NC St. Not sure, but may
have had some contain responsibility blitzing off the edge against Hooker. Clearly the DL were trying to contain on there way to get him. And did a good job of it late.
Blitzes ARE ugly when they don't get home. Would rather see edge blitzes as opposed to the Baker specials (delayed blitzes from DEEP). Time for Manny to dig a little deeper because we have blitzed off the edge frequently, and fairly effectively, the last 2 weeks.

bolden is injured or just tired in first full season. Carter is a LB and hall just isn’t that good. We need Avante, Williams, Kichens to infuse some talent in that room next year

I don’t know, man. I’ve had this conversation with @Coach Macho for a long time, but especially the last 3-4 weeks (Virginia I made a post, IIRC). They’re so tentative.

Now there are missed tackles everywhere on top of it all. For a defensive system that places so much pressure on Safeties, we have to pray it gets cleaned up fast. The play calls don’t do ANYONE any favors, so I have a hard time picking on anyone unless it’s a blown tackle or obvious bad play.

For example, did everyone see the repeated Safety/CB blitzes on VT’s last drive? We did it enough VT literally threw a screen pass at it. It’s a shaky system. I will say the offense deserves the fans’ ire today, though.

Yes, they could have at least blitzed from the opposite side ONCE!! GOODNESS!!

Thank God the ACC sucks. Outside of Clemson and UNC the rest of our schedule is full of garbage from a passing perspective.

At this point I just want to put as good a record down on paper as we can so that hopefully we can parlay that into a better recruiting class. Stop settling for 3 stars and keep the blue chip South Florida skill positions home.
 
Gurvin Hall played very poorly. He couldn’t cover, tackle, and took bad angles. He looks slow and mostly trailing when making a play. I don’t understand why he’s regressing. I rather see Cam Harris returning punts than Hall. I can’t wait for Avante next year.

Tackling is an issue for the entire defense and it really stands out with Bolden. Dude got run over dirty by number 0 for the TD in the 3rd quarter

We exclusively ran Safety/CB blitzes on the left side that entire drive!! At least 5 in a row. Never have I seen that before.

Couch is by far best CB on team right now
