X Williams was born a cane

Best part about this thread is we already have three studs at WR locked in and Xavier would be icing on the cake.

Meanwhile in the past 5 classes or so outside of the 2016 class(Richards,Bruce, Mullins were all committed) we would be arguing why the top south Florida talent receivers weren't coming to miami

People should be asking...

1. Why won't Xavier Williams run a 40 yard dash at a combine?;
2. Why doesn't Xavier Williams run track?

Meanwhile, Elijah Moore is competing well in the 100 meter dash this spring.

I question the true upside of any skill position player that won't run a 40 yard dash or run track.
LOL....so by your logic Anthony Schwartz is the best wr in Florida then huh? Haven't seen anything on mark pope running track

If only 40 times were the true measure of a receiver's overall ability.

Exactly Jerry Rice is the prime example. Wasn't the fastest but his route running, hands and ability to break defenders down made him the greatest

Question: Why does the NFL have a combine?

Answer: Speed is the best measure of future success for skill position players.

Just because you are the fastest doesn't mean you are the best.

However, if you are slow you cannot be elite at corner or wide receiver.

End of story.

I don't know if Xavier Williams is fast or slow because he won't run.

Jerry Rice was not fast....lol, biggest fake news story in sports history.

It's a trope to say Jerry Rice had a terribly slow 40 time. A lot of people are throwing this out in the various Laquon Treadwell fracases.

Yes, if you google "Jerry Rice 40", you get 4.71. It's not correct or based on any source I could find.

According to Bill Walsh in an oft-quoted interview, it was a 4.59.

According to Gil Brandt, it was no better than a 4.55: "We timed Jerry in the 40 nine times,” said former Dallas Cowboys general manager Gil Brandt, “and he never got under 4.55." (Though this same article repeats the myth that Larry Fitzgerald ran a 4.63 40).

When "speedster" Jerry Rice was drafted by the USFL in 1985, head coach Rollie Dotsch said he "runs a 4.45 40 yard dash."media fluff.

"THE BEST MEASURE of future success" please.....look of the fastest combine numbers over the last 10 years....and I'm top 5 finishes in WR and CB/S and tell me any many of those guys were All-Pro.....

Anything Under 4.5 laser timed is "very fast"

Fast Guys (NFL Combine Times)

Julio Jones 4.34
Emanuel Sanders 4.42
Golden Tate 4.42
AJ Green 4.48
TY Hilton 4.37
Travis Benjamin 4.31
Alshon Jeffrey 4.48
Brandin Cooks 4.33
Odell Beckham 4.43
Sammy Watkins 4.43
Amari Cooper 4.42
Jeremy Maclin 4.45

So again please explain to me how slow WR's make it in the NFL?

Every once in a while a guy like Antonio Brown comes along (ran 4.54 at combine) that is just so gifted running routes that he can defy the sub 4.5 speed requirement.

Otherwise, it is a waste of time to recruit WR's that do not have a verifiable track or 40 time.

Elijah Moore is better.

Big mistake if we take Williams over Moore.

Have you seen Williams play in person? I haven't, and I'd like to hear from those who have seen him play -- what makes him so good? Who is he similar to in style of play?

Are people this stupid?

You have to combine ability with elite speed to get a great player.

Lots of guys who are fast but can't play.

However, you cannot be elite without speed (with an anomaly every once in a while)

Kevin white was faster than Amari cooper how did that turn out? What about Darius Hayward bey? What is dri archer and jacoby ford doin now?

Elijah Moore is a sub 4.5 kid.

No evidence that Williams is a sub 4.5 kid.

BTW...Jeff Thomas runs a 4.28.

Jeff Thomas is elite.

Xavier Williams is likely not.

Who cares.

Both run sub 4.5.

The odds are most sub 4.5 kids will suck but alot will be great.

Kids that run above 4.5 have almost no chance of being elite (with the exeception of 1 or 2 guys every few years). Especially when they are of average height and build like Williams.
