WR Coach Kevin Beard

Beard just spent six years coaching up wideouts in Jason Candle's offense at Toledo.

He's come a long way career-since his two-year stint at Miami on Al Golden's offense, which was his first collegiate job.

One year at Georgia and one at Tennessee before joining Toledo's staff.

Mentioning his last stint here eight years ago is like talking about Mario's FIU days, while ignoring the growth Alabama and Oregon.

Welcome (back) to The U, Kevin Beard.
No offense and I’m happy enough if it works out, but spending six years as a position coach at Toledo is not the equivalent of running on Broadway for six years

I am very meh about this hire, but the one thing that comforts me is that hiring my dog would’ve been better than having Gattis coach wide receivers again

The Beard hire doesn’t blow me away. It’s meh. But I fall into the camp of believing Mario had time to rethink this and is trusting his gut. Hope he’s right on take 2.

It is amazing Mario took all P5 guys though. It’s not like he didn’t have the budget. So either top G5 guys wouldn’t coach under him (presumably because he would be too demanding in recruiting and effort) or he consciously determined he wanted to pull in the scrappy and brilliant types. Probably a bit of both.
Think you got your P & G reversed

He needs a minimum of 2 elite WRs. He does that I'll be a bigger fan than Nordea.
Two elite WR from Trader, Robinson, Smith, Wingo, Miller. So basically 2 top 50 WRs?

Miami has not signed 2 top 50 WRs (or even top 60 or top 70 IIrc) in the same class, in the recruiting site era (20 years).

So in year 1, he's gonna have to do something that's never been done. lol dude's either gonna be a board legend or the headliner in multiple "fire him" threads.

but it's much bigger than Beard though; the 3 new coaches come from spread offenses.

Mario wants a power-spread and hired coaches to make that happen; from Air-raid to pro-style and everything in between, all the bases are covered.

Miami has sucked for the majority of 20 years. We had never signed two top 50 OL until last year. I don't want to hear about your excuses he's practically being gift wrapped 1 top WR so if he can't get us another throw him in the same dumpster as Gattis. To answer your question, Yes.

Beard, Harris, and Dawson all have experience in different iterations of spread offense. These new hires collectively demonstrate a strong commitment toward a more WR-friendly offensive scheme and recruiting.

This right here. Beard gives us a WR coach who has proven he can develop kids in the scheme we're now running. I'm usually harsh on Mario, but this is a good move. Regardless of where he's from and played in college.

Richt didn’t want him. I’m curious who was right. Richt or Golden/Cristobal.
Richt also hired Dugans who was a disaster. We would have been better off keeping Beard.

The good thing for Beard is he's probably going to walk into landing JoJo Trader and can take a swing at Jeremiah Smith. No harm, no foul if you can't pull that off.

Then he can probably pull Chance Robinson and McCoy or something similar. He's gonna pull excellent talent in this first class by default.. if not he totally dropped the ball.

The real test is landing a portal WR that can help us and then getting something out of the group we already have - taking one or more of George, Young Restrepo, and Horton to the next level.

Some op's still living in their first half of life at age 60 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Good coach, underwhelming hire on paper. Does fit with Mario's MO this go around so I'm excited to see what he can do.
Yeah, true.

It is hard to not fall into the financial aspect trap of this go around. Compared to the salaries of the prior staff, this makes it look like it took the AD into Chapter 11 bankruptcy and they can't afford better coaching.

Personally, I believe Mario felt burned by his high paid super experienced staff that half assed it, so maybe he is overcompensating just a bit wanting hungry up and comers that will put 100% into their job so as to keep a strong resume going. JMO.

Why was Dugans a disaster? Lol

He wasn't a disaster but his receivers couldn't catch a cold. At least they could block. Even at his current FSU gig, they've got that giant from ASU and the rest of the group has been mediocre.
