Highly unlikely given the poor defense. I guess the bigger question is how would last years offense have done vs ND this year. I just wonder if to would have been a grind like the Ga Tech game was.

Cam could’ve kept it competitive — he’s good enough to make plays even against a disciplined ND defense. But the way Miami won this game — efficient, methodical, balanced, surgical — that’s exactly Beck’s wheelhouse.

Ward’s style is built to survive chaos. Beck’s style is built to beat great defenses that don’t give you chaos to work with. Against Notre Dame, Beck was the guy Miami needed.

Not a chance. ND would have found their run play, rinse repeat right down the field. Defense gassed and forcing Cam to press. Could have gotten ugly.

Go Canes!

Pretty close to a toss-up, but I lean towards we'd still have won. Last year's offense would have put at least 10-14 pts on the board before we scored on Sunday. We weren't terrible defending the run last year, and I don't think Carr in his first game would have done what McCord did against our D through the air.

Cool hypothetical

No. We're a better team this year than last year IMO, and that's reflected in the rankings. The country sees what we see. This is a very good, complete, legit team - the best team we've had in 20+ years.

Absolutely not! With that sieve of a defense we had last year, Notre Dame beats us by two touchdowns.

No. It would have been a high scoring shootout but we would have lost because you cannot rely on your Offense to bail you out game after game. That’s unfair and asking too much of them.

Defense wins titles.

Nope but with half this D, we would have made the Finals

Maybe in beginning of year but not at the end of the year. 2 teams heading in opposite directions. ND looked way worse to me than the CFP version

last year = not a chance would they have beaten Notre Dame in game 1.

we would have given up a rushing touchdown on EVERY single ND possession. and Cam would have thrown at least one pick into coverage.

Would have been a shoot out. ND eventually gets a stop while our D can’t get out of its way.
