I just didn't think Fletcher was the guy. The way his game changed at the end of the season and playoffs was really shocking.

Exactly this! I remember turning to one of my friends I was watching the A&M game with and saying......"That's Fletcher??? Where the heck did that explosiveness come from?" It was like watching a completely different player!

If this is a serious question then yes. They were out in droves during the spring and summer. @NicKane is probably the most efficient culprit.

1. Mesidor - Thought he was a jag. Not terrible, but wouldn't make much of a difference
2. Safeties (Fitzgerald, Thomas, Poyser, Scott) - Did not think they would all play like mad men.
3. Bauman - Thought he would be a major contributor. Kind of like a secret weapon.
4. Chamar Brown- Thought he wouldn't see the field, would struggle against good competition.
5. Mario - Thought he didn't have what it would take to get the team back on track after SMU.

Agreed. Don't take this as an attack - were you at the SMU game? If you were, you know. Their stadium was "nice," but it literally felt like an overdone high school stadium. The atmosphere was cool with their on campus tailgating, but the stadium itself was really, really disappointing from the perspective of big time college football....because it felt like anything but that. When I was in high school, I got recruited by a ton of D3 schools and I declined largely because it felt disappointing when I saw their stadiums. The SMU stadium brought back similar feelings. I just know that our fans would be amazingly disappointed with a 40,000 seat stadium on top of the old Pike House or SAE house, let alone in Tropical Park.

After SMU I started a thread asking if Mario realized that he had lost the fan base. He lost me there for a while but he defied all odds and expectations and got things back on track. All credit to him

I think we all know what’s coming. My worst take was thinking JoJo was going to be one of the best wide receivers in the country and a legit household name. I’ll wear that one.


But I more than make up for it with my best take. Calling out Baby Jesus before spring. Letting everyone know he is HIM

I went full RUTARD at my tv screen when we lost to SMU- however, in my defense, it was completely warranted. Taking Mario's history into account as a HC here, I think most reasonable fans felt like we were headed for several more years of frustration under Mario. I have no idea what took place inside of the program after that loss, or what type of metal gymnastics took place inside of Mario's brain, but he put things together and got the boys moving in the right direction. Not only did he get them moving in the direction, that movement stayed consistent until the end of the season. Which was a huge step for the program.

I have no concerns that Mario has finally come to a point in his career where winning unnecessary fist fights with certain teams has been knocked out of him.

So you went from the hype train to the excuse train and now going back to the hype train?

He's going to be about the 9th option in the offense next year.

Last time I was on campus was when GameDay was in CG for the 2017(?) game against ND. The Bandy game. The pan con pinga se acabó el pan game day. I don’t remember if that housing was completed then or not. We used to abuse that smaller lion they had by the pool….

Why do I get this strange feeling that Lofton is going to make us look like fools next year for doubting him lol. Actually I really hope he does. I thought he would leave but he stayed with Miami so I'm really rooting for him to succeed.

Oh I got him on the radar for a big impact next year

Was just absurd to make those claims about him when we have 3-4 first round picks on the team and a freshman that should have had Heisman votes

I thought the Lofton injury lowkey hurt in the championship game but that’s also because Bauman is just awful

Yeah, after the SMU loss was my lowest of the entire Mario era. I questioned whether or not he had it mentally to take us to the promised land. Then, for the first time in DECADES, we finished strongly and lived up to our potential. And, we should have won the natty, but the fact that he got us there means a lot.

I've largely been cautiously optimistic about Mario, but the SMU loss was the Rubikon. If the team had tanked after that, then I think he would've eventually failed here. But, thankfully, he used great leadership and now there's no team in the country that's hotter than Miami.

And, as non-homer-y as I can say this, I genuinely believe that we are the true #1 team in the country entering this season AND, I don't mind it at al if they undervalue us and put us as low as 8-10 in the country. I would actually prefer they undervalue us, because I think that our literal floor is 10 regular season wins, but I believe our realistic floor is 11-1 and wouldn't bet against us running the table.

I agree. I also think we have a 10 win floor but like you I wouldn't be shocked to see us go 12-0. There are always going to be tricky regular season games and the one in South Bend vs Notre Dame is the big one. We also have an interesting game vs the Virginia Tech Nitany Lions but that's at home. @Wake Forest will be an interesting matchup as will @Clemson and maybe @UNC but I honestly think that we overpower all those teams. 11-1 or 12-0 regular season and a berth in the ACCCG.

Pringle made Fletcher step it up. That's what competition does.
