Willie Williams Resurrected

Troy Davis is the closest I can think of with Frank right behind him for what I saw with my own eyes down here. Travis Henry was absurd too. I just don't remember the school he was at in Orlando. I think Edgewater or maybe frostproof.
Fred Taylor was a more dominant player in high school. Old school, Ant Carter from Suncoast was the most electric WR — awesome basketball player, too. Both PBC, not M-DC, obviously.

I love these types of threads.

I remember when reading his recruiting diary or whatever it was back then, and laughing so hard at some of the stuff he said. He definitely sounded like a guy with a ton of personality and an engaging dude.

He was....nicest kid ever...sat on one of those circular planters outside of hecht in 05 and talked with him for half an hr.....Great personality...

Than they're gonna have a very sheltered life because there's felons in literally every aspect of life... I respect wanting to always keep your kids as safe as possible. In life though context is necessary. Some people are 100% what they're portrayed as. Most are far more.

Poops, nothing but respect. Willie was one of my all-time favorite recruits and I am very happy he seems to have turned his life around. Guy is in incredible shape with a positive view on life. Good for him!

But my takeaway from that news feature was Willie still has that hustle going on. He talks a mile a minute, doesn't present himself as someone who has found peace, just that he's battling.

Battling is good, much better than accepting failure. But I, too, wouldn't want my kids around a guy that is still that unsettled. Reminds me too much of the father & oldest son in The Kingdom. Badasses who were really trying, but never overcame their personal demons.

Yeah, it was Frostproof. Having a dude his size playing 3A 25 years ago should have been a felony. He had to be 215 pounds minimum. I know he was a **** of a lot bigger at Tennessee.

Best I saw was Frank Gore....my older cousin said the best he saw was Lester Williams from Carol City...
Lester was something to see. We played CC to a draw in a jamboree at Miami Dade North. Our center, all of a 180 pounds, cut them every single snap. Lester was a nice kid and one **** of a tackle. He staying home really got the program going. May he rest in peace.

Don Soldinger beat Freddie and Springs in the State Championship game...and Sarge had an AA RB as well at Southridge Tony Smith...but Sarge will tell you himself that Freddie's the best he's ever seen...
That was in 79...and it was in the playoffs not the state championship...
HML beat Springs in 78....in playoffs...
My fams played for HML and they lost to Merritt Island in state Championship in 78...the same Merritt Island team that defeated Soldinger and Southridge in 79...Merritt Island was back to back State champions.

My fams still has the Miami Herald front page of sports...it reads...
"Lakes Say Goodbye to Springs"

The willie recruitment was the first year I started following crootin, glad to see the young fellow is doing well

His description of his trips to Tallahassee and Gainesville were hilarious....

Randy was trying to tame a wild bronco with his tough love routine... didn't work. ....
.... just too many crazy influences

My bad...point is...Freddie is the Best to ever come out of Dade....

Fred was more dominant than who? For me what troy & frank were able to do in 6a football in Dade county where you're playing the best week in and week out talent wise throughout the country and flat out dominating with tecmo bowl type numbers put them at the top of my board.

I get that people are obviously entitled to their own takes. As someone that's known Willie since high school I'd strongly disagree with the take. However I respect it all the same. Life requires context. Is he a hustler, yes absolutely. But being a hustler doesn't mean you haven't accepted your circumstances or made peace with your demons. It simply means they're trying to live their best life's the one and only way they know how... Unfortunately in most people's eyes we are nothing but what we know. I just happen to disagree.

Hes pretty much been doing his thing with the training and coaching for 5+years. Guys like Cam Harris were working out with him as youth.

And James is not?
Nah. If I'm being honest James is crazy athletic but he's nowhere near defined or even came into a peak as far as what he'll be on the field. We don't even know what position he'll end up at when he does grow into his body. If you'd see James up close, no pads, etc one thing that is Crystal clear is he is NOWHERE NEAR being physically developed to the extent he will be. Kids got tons of room for growth. 2 years in a real s & c program and with a proper nutrition program and he's going to be huge. Will he maintain the fluidity necessary to play safety at a high level once he reaches that point? Personally I strongly doubt it and even if he did we would be doing him a disservice by not switching him to end or even possibly lb. But my main reason I don't feel he's even close is because of the dominance of Willie from day 1. Onions issue with Willie was never football related at it's root. Onions real issue was Willie didn't need him and his coaching. Willie from day 1 dominated on the practice field and showed out on game day. But everything he did was because he was such a superior football player. Kid could pick apart a play off rip but it was all instinctual for him. He didn't know the how or the why. He just knew this is where the ball was headed and he wanted to be there. Onion wanted him simply sticking to his zone and nothing else. Nothing wrong with the fact you have a zone to cover. As a coach that is your priority. But when a kid shows you he's got that covered than he reads the play and moves on to the ball and contributes you don't suppress that. You simply refine it. Onion is the black Mandy where he's got to be the smartest guy.
